  1. Was this once a big sound at Wigan ? Great video clip too !!!
  2. Ronnie Dyson's LP only version on Columbia is the killer for the dancefloors !!!
  3. Did this loveable fingersnapper get a UK release ? And to jog your memory here's Carla doing the business on Hollywood A Go Go in "65 !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2EYk4cFQwY
  4. And still no definitive answer as to who sang lead on "You Gotta Pay Your Dues" ???
  5. Somehow the Matt Munro track reminds me of rock 'n roll femme Wanda Jackson's "Whirlpool" on Capitol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btsL9IZUeXM
  6. This is much better if you're interested in blue eyed crooners, Jack Jones' one dedicated stab at doing a "soul" record from 1968 on Kapp, It actually got some plays on certain black radio stations on the East Coast at the time, white pop music buyers ignored it at the time because it was too gritty to what they were used to from him:
  7. Is it the same group as Spice who did "Sweet Norma Jones" on Sound Gems , a Philly release ?
  8. Why not get the most desirable , an Aussie issue on Mercury !!! I have one for sale. Incidentally the UK 45 is a diffrent mix to the US LP & 45 hit version ...
  9. Anyone please ? Thanks !
  10. Very worthwhile observations as usual Paul, but you have me thinking now, you do mean Toby Kang don't you, and are you referring to one or more 7"/45 UK releases from his much sought after US LP on Chelsea ? If so what were they ?
  11. I was watching Elvis' classic movie "Viva Las Vegas" for the 62nd time last night when I was reminded of the club scene where this brilliant black RnB group comes on stage and does this superb dance number called "The Climb" .. but I had never bothered to research who the hell they were!!! Well they are the Jubilee Four !!! Check 'em out !!! https://www.youtube.c...h?v=pXcgKpiTuo8 And they are immediately followed by Elvis himself doing a cover version of Ray Charles' "What I'd Say". Did Elvis have any "soul" ??? You decide ....
  12. The text on the Sliced Tomatoes 45 says "taken from Music Merchant LP MM103". So I want the LP. I know you've got one Much cash waiting for you...
  13. Played this recently and it absolutely packed the floor !!! Funnily enough sounds so right for today's tastes. On Calla in the US, it's first UK 7" appearance was on Contempo wasn't it ? Was there also PYE Disco Demand 7" UK release ? Their LP was on UK Contempo. Did the girls ever tour the UK ?
  14. You must be new around here ...
  15. Still desperate to see the Australian issue of this ... if indeed it exists !
  16. Brilliant tune !!! Also available on the MFP label UK LP.
  17. I used to play "Trusting Heart' and "Stop and Think" off their Golden Fleece LP regularly at Sydney soul nighters back in the late 80s. They were extremely popular with the dancers. Happy to play them for you Tony when you get to Sydney for the National Wekender later this year !
  18. Here is one of those reissue LPs from the early 80s, rarely seen: https://cgi.ebay.com....e=STRK:MEWAX:IT There may possibly be three different LPs comprising their Dore material ...
  19. Is that an "axe" sticking out underneath the record box ??? !!!
  20. Jimmy Ellis was ... and still is one of the greatest soul singers ... ever ! Never really given the dues he deserves, and his contribution was always overshadowed by the fact the Trammps were a relatively large self contained band. Anyone have any info on his career before the Trammps ? The Trammps bios don't have any info on him before joining the group ? Is he the Jimmy Ellis on the Salem 45 ? Incidentally, I wouldn't call the Trammps a "disco" group, rather, they were a "soul" group who foud favour in the discos and with New York disco DJs of the time ...
  21. Nice one Melismo, you have great taste, and that's a quality playlist too !!! Unless anyone else on here makes a comment, it would seem however that this Pat Peterson LP remains relatively unknown ....
  22. Mark, off the top of my head, this must have been released several years prior to 1989, more like 1983/4, around the same time as Walter Jackson's Touching In The Dark, surely?
  23. The Jonah Jones LP contains the fantastic instrumental "Jonah's Ark" ... an absolute dead ringer for Young Holt's California Montage !!! Mark my words, a DJ will latch on to this track one day !!!
  24. Crossover gem from the Queen, never on a 45 in the US, only in the UK on red Atlantic, correct ?
