  1. Are there any Virtue discographies other than Dave Rimmer's? https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/virtue.htm
  2. The Virtue label numbering was all over the place and the label operated for a relatively broad time period, not surprising that it could still throw up something like this. Although I must say this tune sounds like an Irish lounge crooner auditioning for the Love Boat.
  3. Did Chris Farlowe's very creditable version of Garnett Mimms' classic only appear on a 7" on this French EP ? Never on a 7" in the UK or anywhere else ? And for those who haven't heard it
  4. Would love a clean original please, thanks.
  5. I don't know Bob. How about "Manifesto" for a newborn's first aural experience ?!
  6. Just take him along to the next major allnighter...
  7. Anyone have a clean copy of this please?
  8. Well said and it should always be remembered that no one is actually born to be into soul music although no doubt more than a few on here would make that claim. Everyone has to start somewhere.
  9. Perhaps label owner Joe Evans simply just kept recycling existing tracks on subsequent releases to save money on recording new tracks to use as flip sides. This extract from the Carnival list of releases (from Dave Rimmer's site) indicates that I Wanna Be, Hearts Were Made To Love, Just You Wait & See, What Is Love and Sweet Potato Gravy were all used more than once ... Carnival 548 - I Wanna Be (Your Everything)* / Sweet Potato Gravy (Instrumental) Carnival 550 - I Call It Love / Feelin' Good*- 1970 *Flip By The Carnival Kings. Carnival 552 - I Wanna Be / Hearts Were Made To Love - 1970 Carnival 554 - What Is Love / Sweet Potato Gravy (Instrumental)* - 1971 *Flip By Maurice Simon & The Pie Men. Carnival 556 - Hearts Were Made To Love / For The Rest Of My Days — 1972 Carnival 557 - I'm The One Love Forgot / What Is Love - 1973 Carnival 558 - Just You Wait And See / I'm The One That Love Forgot — 1974 Carnival 559 - Just Be Yourself / Just You Wait And See — 1974
  10. Top tune ... and let's shoot all those lazy DJs who say they "couldn't be arsed" to carry around LP's.
  11. Regarding the "crack". If the record is styrene perhaps the buyer was referring to the styrene "join" which we've discussed on Soul Source a number of times over the years. Many insist that the join is in fact a complete crack in the record ... and just as many say the opposite, that the join is a natural part of the styrene record making process.
  12. Please tell us more about the circumstances surrounding Edwin Starr's collection - were his personal belongings just thrown out in the trash ?
  13. The Blackberries were originally Sherlie Matthews, Venetta Fields and Clydie King ... and later Carlena Williams. Released two 45s on A & M.
  14. Duffy, Joss Stone and the like all leave me a little cold I'm afraid when put up by some as "soul' or "soulful' artists. But this young lady who recently emerged on the music scene, she can really sing. What do you think?
  15. Absolutely go for it ... so many positives in everything you're doing . Some of those students and 20 something's of today may be the rare soul enthusiasts of tomorrow. And to have a regular monthly night in a proper large night club can only be good thing , exactly the kind of place where rare soul can attract new, younger devotees in today's world. The soulies with open minds and without prejudices will turn up. Just make sure you completely ignore the small group of tired old cynics who will inevitably poo poo everything you're doing ...
  16. This just sold for $931.00 US. In terms of the highest known prices paid for soul related 45s from the Chess/ Checker/ Cadet/ Argo family of labels, where does this stand? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Frisco-Singers-Aint-No-Sun-My-Girls-Waitin-Chess-northern-soul-funk-45-/351015090845 One entry only on popsike from 2009 and that went for a mere $158.00 .
  17. What happened to want number 7 ?!!!
  18. However the extended remix of Tainted Love which AVI released in the early 80s is a travesty ...
  19. Why is it more uncommon than all his other Curtom 45s then ?
  20. Just wondering, any news on the man in 2014? Is he well, is he active, is he writing and recording, performing even?
  21. B.B King - I like to Live the Love (1973) In 1973 BB went down to the Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia and recorded this great Philly dancer. Turned out to be one of the bigest hits of his later career.
