  1. Phil, were you one of the original DJs at the original Wheel ?
  2. Two different issues of this , and with different running times.
  3. The O'Jays doing a version of Jerry Butler ?! Don't think so !
  4. Surely Brian Phillips who is on here would be able to confirm whether it was a Wheel record ?
  5. Surely these artists continue to perform of their own free will ? No one is forcing them to get up there. Many have no alternative but to keep performing simply to make ends meet .
  6. Here's the best way to own it ... an Aussie RCA demo
  7. As a general proposition, you're absolutely correct. It's a joke that that the " EX " grade is even a part of the UK system ... not to mention the fact that many UK soul sellers use as their lowest grade "VG" when in fact they should be grading such records as merely Fair or Poor ! And the multiple ++++++++ plusses phenomenon seems to be particularly prevalent with many sellers in the Uk too ....
  8. Ady deserves the recognition if for no other reason that no one has been more responsible for introducing northern soul to the world than Ady and Kent Records. In an age when there was no internet, no youtube and no down loads those first two Kent LPs - For Dancers Only and For Dancers Also - and the many that followed have proven to be absolutely pivotal moments in northern soul history. Several generations of soul people from Sweden to Germany to Japan to Australia to the US and many other countries all around the world, let alone the UK, will readily tell you without hesitation that their introduction and lifelong love affair with rare soul music was established via those Kent LPs. In fact it would be fair to say to say that without Ady's contribution, northern soul today would most likely still be nothing more than a curious local movement little known outside the UK.
  9. There is of course this famous photo of Dave Godin and Ian Levine outside the Mecca from 1971 which uses the term " Rare Soul '71 " in the background advertisement.
  10. Great to see the Queen at any time and she looks to be in better health than she has been in recent years. However judging from that performance on the Letterman show, she is really having trouble reaching those high notes that she so easily managed in her prime. Understandable at 72 years of age ... Would still love to see her live any time, any place though. What a shame that her fear of flying has prevented her from performing outside the US for decades ...

  12. It is part of soul folklore that Dave Godin was the first to coin the term "northern soul" but ... was he really the first ? Nowhere in this article is the phrase "northern soul" used by Dave, it is only the headline which states "Up-North Soul Groove". And it's not unreasonable to suggest that editor John Abbey may well have formulated that headline himself , not Dave ? Having looked closely at Dave's other Blues & Soul pieces of the time , he didn't use the term "northern soul" in that famous report on his first trip to the Wheel either. Not doubting for one moment Dave Godin's great legacy to soul music but just trying to establish the precise facts. Anyone ?
  13. CLASSICS IV STORMY/24 HOURS OF LONELINESS IMPERIAL RECORDS COVER VERSIONS OF SUPREMES AND WILBUR WALTON VG+ FAIR COVERS.!!! Classics IV covering the Supremes and Wilbur Walton ?! Are you sure it's not the other way around ?!
  14. Do you know Luckey Davis ? If so, no doubt plenty of people on here would be interested to know more about the man.
  15. What's happening with the rest of the world ? Are they adopting a wait and see approach as to how well (or not) the film does in the UK before deciding what to do with oveseas markets ?
  16. No, not a bootleg. In fact Surrey was part of Randy Wood's Mirwood / Mira set up. https://www.bsnpubs.com/veejay/mira.html
  17. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RINGLEADERS-BABY-WHAT-HAS-HAPPENED-TO-OUR-LOVE-LET-039-S-START-OVER-M-PAC-7232-/331319854059?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=IynSCx6oTsMqaci9cEPGK4tH%252FEE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Does this Ringleaders look legitimate ? Aside from the Outtasight reissue, has it been booted ?
  18. Was wondering the same thing Dave. I've written to the producers regarding co-ordinating something down under but had no response whatsoever. Perhaps they are taking a wait and see approach to the demand and reaction in the UK before deciding how best to market the film overseas.
  19. 7" original issue please. Not the CSP second issue. Many thanks!
  20. "Your Love Grows More Precious Everyday" unreleased ? Wasn't it the flip to "Loser" ?
