  3. Frank, I have always taken the view that Marcia's first two singles were both dead slow ballads but they were huge top ten chart hits in Australia. Her third single was the uptempo You Gotta Let Go B/W the midtempo Don't Let The Grass Grow but the record clearly wasn't cutting through with the Australian public or the charts so Wizard probably dropped promoting it almost immediately and may well have even withdrawn it from the shops. Her next two releases were again slow ballads and not surprisingly they both returned her to the top ten on the charts. It was only when she released You a little later that she had a big hit with an uptempo record. That's how I see it anyway ...

  5. Great if those are your personal choices but there'll be a tsunami of people insisting that Sam Dees' "Show Must Go On" would have to be in any such list, from an objective and critical point of view anyway !
  6. Nite-Liters - K-Jee Info Page featuring PCRL ALL-NIGHTERS schedule & flyer for 1994 background info and much ore mickey nolds daily motion page http://www.dailymotion.com/mickeynold" The clips featured on here from dailymotion are just the tip of the iceberg 400+ at last count
  7. Been doing a little more research on Gene Latter and came across this nice press photo and flyer of a very dapper looking Gene :
  8. And the irony of this thread is that there is the other current thread on "what's killing the soul scene"...
  9. Original please on Cherry Red, no second issues or boots on Virtue. Many thanks
  10. Really looking forward to this Dave - any info in the book on The Creations group who recorded for Virtue ???
  11. The one book that constantly gets overlooked is Barney Hoskins "Say it One Time for the Broken Hearted: The Country Side of Southern Soul". The influence of country music was absolutely critical to the development of Soul Music generally - not just Southern Soul - and this book nails the evolutionary journey to Soul Music perfectly.
  12. A little off topic but Mr Manship currently has on auction a Unique Blend on Eastbound and in his listing the record is sitting in an orange Janus sleeve. (see below). I stand to be corrected but I've never seen an Eastbound - or Westbound record for that matter - in a Janus sleeve. Obviously Westbound had its own dedicated sleeve, but not Eastbound. Has anyone ever seen an Eastbound record in a Janus sleeve?
  13. As many of you know The Herbs issued some excellent records on George Blackwell's Smoke label. I only chanced upon this recent ebay listing after it had ended so unfortunately I didn't win the item. If I had known about it sooner, I would have bid to win the item, no question. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/The-Herbs-1969-Question-Vintage-Soul-R-B-7-Single-Press-Photos-Letter-/131545411096?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1ea0b7ae18&nma=true&si=G1m0KsC4VrxA%2FGCqwdVnf2jIoQI%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 The record came with some fabulous memorabilia relating to the group including a letter from the group's manager to Allen Walden of Capricorn Records who was the brother of Phil Walden (who had of course been the manager of Otis Redding). Here is the material that came with the record ....
  14. You mean LP only ?
  15. Not UK only .... New Zealand 7"
  16. A broad range of musical styles and beats on that anthology but in truth little to enthuse the (rare) soul and funk crowd. Any prospect of a collection concentrating on the soul/funk side of P & P ?
