  1. CALIFORNIA MONTAGE ! Who said instrumentals aint got no soul ? One of the greatest soul instrumentals ever !
  2. GLENN YARBOROUGH " ITS GONNA BE FINE " (RCA) Was this popular at Wigan ?????????????????????????
  3. While we're on the subject of Mel and Tim , does anybody agree that their version of " Free For All " beats Phillip Mitchell hands down !!!
  4. Think the point everyone is missing, is that for American music collectors , if an old record never got past the disc jockey promotional stage, then in their eyes it was NEVER released at all. On the other hand, in the eyes of rare soul collectors , such records WERE regarded to have been originally released , as demos of course , as we refer to them.......... Thats why American discographers often fail to list records that only get to the promo stage... and I think that is how Elijah Cole sees the situation...
  5. Why all the fuss ! Sorry guys , I'm big modern soul fan but this Storm 45 represents the worst in dirge like mechanical funk , leaves me absolutely cold. Why would you wanna pay more than a fiver for this I have no idea !
  6. Seriously, if anyone has an original first pressing of the Mixed Emotions 45 , I'd be more than happy to pay a good , fair price for it . Please PM me !!!
  7. Reminds me of James Coit " Black Power " !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Have a mint original 45 on Beale St if anyone's interested, for trade only though... PM me if anyone's interested ! Cheers!
  9. Ken , got this on an Aussie Festival label release , amazingly, I'll have to dig it out of storage if you really want me to , but I do remember it saying on the label something like "licenced from .... Records in England ... so its definitely a UK production , its a strange record and I always thought 1969 / 70 was a bit late for a UK act doing Stax soul covers ??????????? The whole UK soul movement of Geno / Jimmy James etc were on their last legs by then weren't they ?
  10. Round Robin " The Vulture " on Capitol from about '66 ... completely brill David Axelrod produced dancer ... Round Robin was a black DJ / TV personality on the West Coast in the 60's , of course his hit was " Kick That Little Foot Sally Anne " which the old timers tell me was a big 'un at the Wheel....
  11. Believe it or not , have this on a beautiful original AUSTRALIAN RCA Demo, but it will take one hell of a mighty trade to get it off me. You're welcome to PM me and try !
  12. The reality is that there are loads of genuine and serious soul collectors who , for very good reasons such as work or family , have a reasonably large income but neither the time nor inclination to go trawling through ebay lists or websites or spending hours going to record shops or record fairs or sorting through 1000's of records in warehouses BUT regard Mr Manships site as a very simple easy safe accessible and convenient way to buy rare soul records..............
  13. David Ruffin " What You Gave Me " (Motown LP) Uttterly fantastic version of Marvin & Tammi toon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Didn't Kev Roberts say that Russ Winstanley or a colleague left the original Frank Wilson 45 on a hot plate and slightly warped it and that is why the UK release had the jump at the beginning? Can Kev or anyone else elaborate on that story please ?
  15. All this talk about about great cheapies right under our noses makes me think of this record I picked up last week for $2.00 US thinking it would be rubbish. Its only ever been a few pounds for sale and in Manships guide is the lowest value disc by this group... but its completely fabulous up tempo golden era soul...AND they're a well known group... Its the Persians on GWP " I Cant Take It Anymore " Can't believe this has never been massive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone know this ?
  16. Wanted DESPERATELY !!!! Stevens & Foster "I Want to Be Loved" on Jerri Please PM me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. You might be interested to know that I picked up a nice original Celest Hardie on Reynolds from a trustworthy US collector a couple of months back for $550 US (not cheap but then still less than it would cost on ebay last week of 660+ , and less than what it would fetch at a Johnny Fish and Chips Auction) BUT then when it arrived - to my pleasant surprise - found that it was clearly AUTPGRAPHED by Celest herself !!! The guy never mentioned to me that it was autographed by Celest !!!
  18. Absolutely right ! The Futures were a fantastic SOUL group (never disco!) who did three fantastic LPs (two on PIR and one on Buddah) and have been appreciated for ages for their great stepper " Aint No Time Fa Nuthin' " Party Time Man is a great soul dance record , period. Bet it gets reactivated in 4 or 5 years time and goes back up to 100 quid !!! !
  19. Great record Billy ! I'll have one too if anyone's got a second copy ! Tell you what though Billy, I've always thought that was a BANJO playing rhythm on that record , not a guitar as such ! Bizarre , but it works !
  20. Just seriously for a moment everyone : back in the 80's I used to be an avid reader of Voices from the Shadows and tried to collect a fair amount of contemporary , ie 80's , US soul on 7" vinyl (remember we used to call it "Real Soul" at the time !!!). Up to the late 80's you could still find the odd excellent US soul release on 7" vinyl. But from about 92' on , my attention drifted back to 70s rarities and 60s newies. The list of worthwhile 90's soul that previous posts in this thread have listed appear to be mainly UK artists or US "urban" or "garage" influenced acts. My question is, is there any TRADITIONAL soul sounding ( southern soul slanted if you know what I mean ) US (not UK ) product from the 90's that could make it on Rare (modern /crossover) Soul dancefloors today ?
  21. Gotta agree with JOT , that the Independents LP version is the BEST version ! (respect to Leroy Hutson's version though) With Maurice Jackson version, once again methinks a case of the rare soul collector saying that the rarer record is the better version ! Get the Independents LP for around a tenner !!!!
  22. Hey everyone ! There's loads of twenty and thirty something collectors outside the UK all around the world !!! What does that say about the future ?
  23. Hi guys ! Thought you might be interested to know that I have the Dynamics on an AUSTRALIAN RCA demo !
  24. Over the years seen wildly differing values for this UK only released LP. What would be the current market price ? Also which tracks from the LP were most popular on UK dance floors?
