  1. No no no .... Cheryl Gray (later to become Disco Soul singer Samantha Sang "Emotion" !!!) did a frantic cover version of it in '66, only ever released in Australia on HMV. I have a nice mint copy for sale @ 100 UK GBP if anyone's interested. First in, best dressed ! Includes P & P ! Johnny Caswell's original was NOT released in Australia. By the way , Johnny Caswell was a lily-white Italian pop singer, must say IMO I could never understand the record's popularity on the Northen Scene , but then that's what I love about the Northern Scene! To each his own as they say ! But please file Johnny next to the Shakers , August and Deneen , and Bobby Goldsboro !!!!!
  2. Sebastian, think Ed Robinson on Atco 7" did a much better version of I Just Wanna Be There. I never thought I'd see you praise Dusty Springfield like that !!! I can't think of ANY cover version of a soul tune that Dusty did that was superior to the "real soul" ( african-american ) artist's version. For example , can't believe the Dusty in Memphis LP is so highly rated by rock cognoscenti when every cover she did on it was done IMO better by other soul artists ???? Mind, I'm not saying Dusty wasn't any good, just that her cover versions, generally speaking, paled by comparison to others. Often her versions are credible, but ultimately inferior IMHO... Having said that, her Gamble and Huff LP was superb IMHO, her best by far, especially Silly Silly Fool. What's It Gonna Be is great too of course ! But having seen previous threads on Dusty, I guess I'll be in the minority about Dusty's talents, as I suspect a large number of Soul Source contributors are firm Dusty fans !!!
  3. Incidentally the backing track on the second Nicole Willis track posted here sounds VERY like a straight sample of a Soulful Strings Cadet LP track , wonder if its been credited on the CD ??????????????????? Smells a bit naughty to me if it hasn't been credited ...
  4. Lets put this to rest ... there has never been a 12" of Bill Harris, only on 45 or the RCA Disco Train LP
  5. It all sounds like an Ian Levine creation to me ...................
  6. Love these twelves: Mel Carter " Love Test " (Airwave) Phillipe Wynne " You Aint Going Nowhere But Gone " (Sugarhill) ????????? "Heaven In the Afternoon " ( ????? ) {female original and better version of the Lew Kirton !!!! } Tommy Tate " What Gives You The Right / If I Gave You My Heart " ( Sundance )
  7. Ken , how 'bout the Rockin Berries ? Its gotta be a UK outfit not US , right ? Cheers!
  8. GLORIA SCOTT "A Case of Too Much Lovemaking" (Casablanca, Australia) 700 UK GBP Yes this IS the rare Aussie only 45, look at earlier Soul Source threads for just how rare this really is! And another bonus on this record that many are not aware of is that the flip side is the equally brilliant "What Am I Gonna Do" ! Condition is VG+, some scuffs, plays beautifully, very small circular white sticker on the label. MARCIA HINES "You Gotta Let Go" (Wizard, Australia) 350 UK GBP Only ever issued as a 45 in Australia and Italy, although Australia is the country of origin and first release. Almost as tough as Gloria Scott, so again look at earlier Soul Source threads ! Condition is VG+ , plays nice Anyone interested, PM me please and we'll suss the best method of payment. Postage additional (must insist we send these registered) Cheers!
  9. Donnie Burkes "Satisfaction Guaranteed " !!!!!!!!! And I just love that spoken intro on the record " Ladies and Gentleman...........Donnie Burkes " !!!!!!!!!! :thumbup
  10. Mark ! I have a Marcia Hines 45 on Aussie Wizard For Sale, ex- condition . Yes its extremely rare, I spoke to Marcia myself many years ago about it and the story was that it was the follow up to her first big hit in Australia which was a dead slow ballad. For some reason the record company scheduled the follow up with "You Gotta Let Go" an uptempo dancer of course and the reaction was stone cold , so they pulled it and issued another ballad and she duly had another hit !!! 300 UK GBP & I'll throw in postage for free. PM me and let me know how you prefer to pay. Incidentally, I also have a Gloria Scott Aussie 45 on Casablanca for sale , most definitely only 15 - 25 in existence is the general consensus. For Sale @ 650 UK GBP Cheers!
  11. Not really that great a site. I just had a quick look and for example no listing for the All Platinum/Stang group of labels , missing Jimmy Briscoe & Beavers LP on Pi Kappa , missing Floyd Morris on Bunky etc etc . I'd really like to see a full LP listing for the whole family of All Platinum related labels, such as Astroscope etc etc . Can anyone help ?
  12. And while we're at it , can anyone provide a full LP discography of the Perception & Today group of labels ?
  13. Impalas for me ... and its got a monster funk groove on the flip !
  14. Joe Tex - All The Heaven A Man Really Needs - Dial One of Joe Tex' s greatest most heart wrenching performances !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Got to see the Fith Dimension Down Under about 8 years ago , still had the original 3 members but not of course Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jnr. Being the anorak that I am , I hung around after the gig and got Florence LaRue Gordon (the original co - female lead with Marilyn McCoo) to sign a rare Oz EP of theirs. Anyway as she was signing , I took a punt and asked her if she ever remembered doing a record with the group on the Bronco label when they were called the Versatiles .... and without any hesitation whatsoever she started singing out aloud "You may not have such sparkling personality ... etc etc ... but You're Good Enough For Me ........ " !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was gobsmacked of course !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A lovely lady to boot !!!! Brilliant record too , deserves re activation !!!
  16. Just thought that Soul Source members would be interested to known that unquestionably one of the greatest soul girls EVER is appearing in Melbourne, Down Under, this Thursday. BETTY HARRIS !!!!! She's flying in for a one off gig with all proceeds apparently going to victims of the New Orleans tragedy ... Staggering , I didn't know she was still performing , surely UK weekender promoters would have some interest in bringing her to the UK, and in light of Willie Hutch's recent passing remember we gotta treasure our heroes and heroines while they're still with us ...
  17. OK , go on, laugh if you must , but this is a brill tune ! Did it ever come out on one of the Casino Classics 7" sevens or is it only on the Casino Classics Vol 2 LP ?
  18. Ted , dont muck about with sound files, just buy the Golden Fleece LP blind, the whole LP is brilliant from start to finish !!!
  19. Price on this please ? Also which particular toons off the LP got dance floor exposure ?
  20. QUOTE(kenneth aitchison @ Sep 25 2005, 03:41 PM) How much for Crown four then, any chance a scan or sound clip? About the same, or maybe even less? I don't think anyone is after it as a 'rare first version' or anything. Rarer than the others I think, but don' think that is reflected in price. The Chosen Few is a better and more powerful mix IMO, and therefore more desirable, if you ask me anyway. Far from certain though... THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CROWN FOUR IS A GREAT TOON IN ITS OWN RIGHT AND DESERVES TO BE PLAYED , DONT YOU THINK CHRISTIAN ?
  21. The Trammps were a whos who of Philly Soul weren't they !!! And with their connection to the Volcanos on Arctic too ... Jimmy Ellis was one of the GREAT unsung soul vocalists, never got the credit he deserved because the Trammps were always dismissed (unfairly) as a disco group ALWAYS WONDERED IS THIS THE SAME JIMMY ELLIS WHO DID THE NORTHERN BIGGIE ON CENTURY CITY ???
  22. What would be the current asking price then for a Turbo original ?
  23. I agree that the LP version is the better The New Sounds LP seems to be incredibly hard to come by ... just HOW rare is it ? And what would its likely market price be if offered for sale ?
  24. I know the 7" is listed in the Golden Fleece discography on Dave Rimmer's site "3257 - The Trammps - Stop And Think / Trammps Disco Theme - 1975" BUT I can't say that I've ever actually seen one for sale after all these years !!! I know it got issued as a seven in some European countries. Was it actually EVER issued in the US ??? Or were the rights to the label sold to CBS before it even got out ??? If so, does anyone have one to sell me !!! With thanks !!!
  25. Imperial Wonders ! Fantastic track , but I have an even BETTER version by a group called Rock 'N Co on the AMG label !!! Despite their name , the group are VERY black and VERY soulful !!! Does anyone know it , as I can't EVER remember seeing it offered for sale or in any of the guides ? I assume its much rarer than the Imperial Wonders ? Possibly its the original version too ... ? Any info anyone ?
