I take it that Sam's work of genius is still yet to be "reissued/re-released" on vinyl or CD (legitimately or otherwise) Can somebody refresh my memory as to exactly why that is so ? Has Sam (or Atlantic) tied the rights up and doesn't want to re release it ? Was that the same situation with Luther (Vandross) and his group's first two LPs for Cotillion ? Thanks in advance !

Interesting post Dayo, quite a few people both within - and outside of - the Rare Soul Scene have over the years said that guys like Norman Jay and Eddie Piller for example could easily be leading DJs on the Northern/Rare Soul Scene as they have the depth of collections and knowledge to do it. Are guys like Jay and Piller outsiders to northern fans ? Or could they be welcomed in to the scene ? Wonder if anyone on Soul Source listened to what Keb Darge had to say about Norman Jay in Keb's recently posted interview about the Northern Scene .. not very complimentary at all !!!

Completely gut wrenching and emotionally draining !!! Last time I got so emotional was, I think watching a Grammy Awards in the mid 90's, when the Impressions with Jerry Butler wheeled out Curtis Mayfield in his wheel chair ... seeing such great heroes reduced to mere mortals ... always so devastating ...

Absolutely - and unashamedly - love both "Weakspot" and "Doomsday" by Evelyn Thomas. Two fabulous slices of pop soul ! Ruffin's "Hurt The One You Love" was good too, but Ruffin sounded like he was truly suffering and in pain , mustn't have been too long after that he died ..............

The Invitations "Picking Up" (UK Jay Boy) Yes, the Invitations of Skiing In the Snow fame , recorded on their brief sojourn to the UK in the late 60's , absolutely top draw up tempo dancer., amazing that to my knowledge this has never had ANY exposure on rare soul dance floors. And one of the toughest Jay Boys to find apparently ...

The J's "When Did You Stop" , got this on a 7" , but I have a vague re-collection of seeing the 12" going on Ebay for silly money a year or two back... brilliant Philly sound either way !!!!!!!!!!!

No no no .... Cheryl Gray (later to become Disco Soul singer Samantha Sang "Emotion" !!!) did a frantic cover version of it in '66, only ever released in Australia on HMV. I have a nice mint copy for sale @ 100 UK GBP if anyone's interested. First in, best dressed ! Includes P & P ! Johnny Caswell's original was NOT released in Australia. By the way , Johnny Caswell was a lily-white Italian pop singer, must say IMO I could never understand the record's popularity on the Northen Scene , but then that's what I love about the Northern Scene! To each his own as they say ! But please file Johnny next to the Shakers , August and Deneen , and Bobby Goldsboro !!!!!
