  1. Of course this topic has been done to death on here BUT here's an interesting twist to the whole thing ....... a couple of very prominent DJs in this neck of the woods have taken to playing their boots/pressings out at major nighters but at the same they also their bring their ORIGINALS along to prove to any doubting Soul Police who may question whether they indeed do have the original vinyl . So effectively these DJs turn up with two boxes of records , one box with the boots & pressings which get played on the decks and the other with the originals of the same records ! The logic is of course not to wear out their original vinyl rarities. What do the "original vinyl only to be played at major nighters" advocates on here think about this practice????? Is it acceptable ?
  2. Excuse my ignorance , but can someone please give me Ian Clarke's Record Sales web site address ? And the link to Mr Manship's COMPLETED Auction sale prices ? Thanks in advance !
  3. Need a nice clean US copy of this LP Please HELP !
  4. Now that the subject of Harold Melvin has been raised, in the pre Teddy Pendergrass days (ie pre 1969), was Harold Melvin the primary lead vocalist of the group or did he always have another front man taking lead vocals? Furthermore, was Harold the vocalist on Get Out ?
  5. BILLY WOODS Let Me Make You Happy I have a mint Original of this on Sussex : willing to let it go for 5,000.00 UK GBP Must insist on sending it Registered

  7. Need an Original POINTER SISTERS "SEND HIM BACK" No boots please , must be mint or exc+ , must not have been jocked with , and no cue burn/hiss .... Will pay Mr Manships book price .... or less , of course !!! Please PM me !!!!!
  8. Just realised it's on Anorak records! See above ! But the sleeve is a US Monument sleeve not an Aussie sleeve!
  9. What you need , Jason , is a scan of the Valentines "Breakaway" on an Aussie Monument 45 Demo , one of the Australian Holy Grail Northern releases. Aussie Monument releases were similar to the US in design , that is white with green swirl, but the Aussie's have a solid centre and look much much better! Unfortunately, I don't have scanning facilities to send you a copy, any suggestions ?
  10. Great post Mark , and there's also plenty more information on these labels and artists in Robert Pruter's fantastic book "Chicago Soul". Incidentally Mark, ever thought of coming Down Under (Oz!) to sample the rare soul scene, maybe guest at the National Soul Weekender in October ?
  11. I'm interested in the Leos Sunshipp 45 , but prefer at the least a M- or Exc++ copy . Nothing personal , of course , and I know you have an excellent reputation, but I hesitate to buy ANY vinyl in the VG range. I am open minded on this though so if you want to PM me please feel free . Must not have been jocked with or have cue hiss at the start of the track ..... Cheers!
  12. Saw Terry Callier playing live at a Jazz Club in Sydney, Australia a couple of years back, he did a wonderful acoustic rendition of Ordinary Joe , but not Look At Me Now or Dont Wanna See Myself or Just Cant Help Myself. Can anyone tell me if he has ever performed the latter three toons when playing live in the UK (eg at the Jazz Cafe)?
  13. "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU" Georgie Fame (CBS 1967) This is a Northern Monster waiting to happen ! Staggering how few know about this 45 of his ? Anyone on here know it ?
  14. A few weeks back, we had a thread on the greatest male soul singer ever. Well if we have one on the greatest FEMALE soul singer, then it's Aretha who is absolutely on another planet, but behind Aretha , it's Gladys Knight all on her own and then all the rest. GLADYS KNIGHT is the only female soul singer that could come anywhere near Aretha, especially in the sense of being able to tackle all the various styles of Soul RnB and Pop, whether slow , mid or uptempo, Gladys could do it all ! Brill !
  15. Fabulous and extremely rare LP, I gladly paid a LOT of US $$$ for it but easily worth it. Rose is an LP track only, never on a 45, and the LP is a fold out with a glorious colour pic of the guys inside. And yes it's a private pressing LP, so it is , and will remain , genuinely rare. My copy is autographed and it was only distributed at their gigs (it is NOT a live recording). My advice to anyone who is a true SOUL fan, grab it at any price!
  16. And talking of the Showstoppers- SHOWSTOPPERS - PICK UP YOUR SMILE - BEACON BEA 182 -7" Picking up interest at the moment is another Showstoppers 45, the flipside of "Actions Speak Louder Than Words" and the preferred side in that it has a skippy more Northern danceable quality. The vocals are mixed far too far back in the track though which is a shame because they are good - I think. It maybe when of those 45's that sounds better really loud though. I've never heard it out anywhere so I hesitate to commit myself fully but I suspect that if this was played as a rarity by a top name DJ then there are plenty who would take it on board..although in reality it's not that good. So lets file it under 'interesting'. UK recorded by that man Biddu again who certainly got around at this time !
  17. Since I'm on the other side of the world , please tell me , why the demand on this LP ? Suddenly gone big in the UK for a particular track , has it then ? I've got this LP but haven't pulled it out of the vaults for years! Does it really have OC Smith involvement ? Thanks in advance
  18. Skip Mahoney still available ? Please PM me !
  19. I HAVE A COPY OF TRINI LOPEZ FOR SALE , IN AS MR MANSHIP WOULD SAY, ITS RAREST AND MOST DESIRABLE FORM !!! A FABULOUS LOOKING "EXC" CONDITION AUSTRALIAN STATESIDE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 120 UK GBP PLEASE PM ME AND WE'LL SUSS OUT POSTAGE CHEERS!
  20. All very worthy nominations ABOVE. I have thought long and hard about this over the years. Many mainstream music journals (eg Mojo) have, over time, usually nominated Marvin Gaye as the greatest vocalist in not only soul music but every pop genre. Marvin was truly a legend but he usually gets chosen for his influence and song writing etc as well aS his wonderful voice... But I have heard all the major works by all the great soul vocalists (whether they be Northern Soul legends, RnB , Deep Soul or Southern Soulsters etc) and have come to the clear conclusion that absolutely the greatest vocalist ever in SOUL MUSIC , judged purely on vocal ability is/was without a doubt... DAVID RUFFIN
  21. Have an EX copy of Gloria Scott original 45 ....."A Case of Too Much Lovemaking" ....650 UK GBP Some minor scuffs, plays beautifully Remember only ever released on an Aussie Casablanca 45 !!! Must insist on registered post. We'll suss out appropriate payment method in due course. Cheers!
  22. Can someone burn me up a boot of the CD , please !
  23. LAROM BAKER IS NOT NEARLY AS AWFUL AS THAT TERRIBLE "CANT NOBODY LOVE ME LIKE YOU DO" THING BY STORM !!!
  24. Really looking forward to the Precisions performing... I vaguely remember reading an interview with maybe Popcorn Wylie or Dale Warren in BlackBeat or some other UK soul zine years ago , when the interviewee said there was only ever one male soul group in Detroit who could foot it with the Temptations but they forgot their name .... did they mean the Precisions ??? Surely the Precisions , with those 5 fantastic 45's for Drew alone, (4 of them reached the soul charts) could well be considered the greatest soul act to never make it ? What do you think ? Is there any really in depth info on the group anywhere on the web ?
