  1. Hope I haven't got one. Though somone may well post now to point out something I play too often. I absolutely love the Chandlers YLMML when it comes as a suprise out of the blue. But as Pat Brady's signiture tune I'm kinda always expecting it from him so the hairs on the back of my neck don't stand up like they do when I hear it out of the blue. Same used to go for Levine with the Charades KTMH something I've noticed and make a conscious effort to avoid in my sets. Having said that I aspire to being half as good a DJ as Pat Brady
  2. Anyone got a Description for Dave Rimmer Yeah "Yorkshires Finest" apparently
  3. Not my choice but realistically Frank Wilson takes some beating as the definative oldie, over played even though it is shit rare, known by everyone and his dog, requested at every oldies night in the country, no1 in the top 500, the record I proposed to Margaret to when it was still covered up as Eddie Foster, well the last one may not mean out to you lot but to me its the reason I'm so sad that its so overplayed now. My choice would be the Epitome of Sound - sums up Northern to me anyway.
  4. I actually bought it for 'so close' but IWETHH just grew and grew on me even the Lytham crowd know it now
  5. Superb sound doesn't get enough air time for me I often finish with 'It was easier to hurt her' Garnett Mimms
  6. Right you lot that were asking Chalky about J.J. Daniels when he played it at Soulsville heres you chance to get a bargain.
  7. That was Roly and I think you did actualy mention once or twice (or ten times ) in the fanzine you were a Lancashire Lad if I remember rightly. Can't think of a more serious mistake to make actually and on behalf of all of us at the Neighbourhood I extend our sincerest and most humble public apologies (again) I'm not sure anyone noticed except you Dave
  8. Spending more buying less (btw Reg how's the writing lessons coming on )
  9. Difficult one this for me I don't like to ask for spots particularly having been asked by DJ's who I know do not play original vinyl and feeling uncomfortable about it. So I usually leave all that nonsence to Roly . Though I did ask John May, Rich and Jamie to do our alldayer on the strength of what I heard them play at Soul or Nothing. We have used venue occasionally on our flyers after DJs names but only after asking said DJ if thats OK so they make the judgement call not us in that case. It is often hard to think of superlatives for each DJ so this prevents the need to. If asked I would have 'The Neighbourhood' after my name as co-promoter it gives the name some more exposure but I am resident at a monthly event in Lytham so that should be more apt but it isn't as many more people know the Neighbourhood than Lytham Academy. All in all it's a bit of a minefield really so 'Ged Parker - Blackpool' does for me and I would hope that the venue I am being asked to play at attracts the audiences that like what I like to play. Perhaps another thread altogether is would you refuse to play at a venue, if asked, because of its music policy or its stance on the originals debate or would you turn up but not compromise your position? It's like 'A' level philosophy on here sometimes
  10. I love this on your CD swap Rich though if the tache makes it worth £250 it shouldn't have been on the CD . Seriously though I think I'll email out my 5 faves of each CD once I've listened to them all. Just as feedback like. Back on topic not sure I'd pay £250 for any album but the 7 thats a different matter mind you not sure when I'd be able to play it apart from at home.
  11. Tim is one of the few dealers who is also a collector. Is it too much of a long shot to suggest the Tim hasn't got the ones he pitches at a low price . After all he is setting a market price for many sellers.
  12. Can you hum it for us
  13. 136 views 55 Downloads and soooo little info cant wait for it to arrive now. Thanks for your efforts anyway guys.
  14. I suspect this is 'Unknown' so anything; even if its "thats crap"; will do
  15. Bought a lot of ebay with some of the artists lables listed on the listing there was Denise LaSalle on Tarpon. I thought thats worth a bid so bid the opening price and won the lot. Imagine the lot turning up and the DL is a Demo and in the lot was a copy of Clarence Ried 'I'm Your Yes Man' on a Wand Demo there was about 20 crap tunes as well but the CR made my year.
  16. Any and all info on group / track gratefully received
  17. Matt, I'd split them up and have them sent to different addresses. The customs people use the total value of the goods INCLUDING POSTAGE to work out the import duty you owe and then add on VAT. So you pay VAT on the import duty, so tax on tax on postage . I found this out to my cost, mind you 165 boxes to the same address was a bit silly in hindsight . I'd had 119 before they caught up with me though. There must be a way around it I think if you are a business partnership and your partner is in the US your can be classed as just moving stock internaly within your business. Tim Brown would give you the low down on this I'm sure.
  18. I'd spend some quality time with my family obviously then I'd realise how much money I was saving and start actually going to Man City games again regularly and follow the F1 Championship all over the world. Not sure what I'd spend the rest on
  19. Gaz Kellet has had his collection stolen so no chance of that real shame too he was a take no prisoners type of DJ. Legend was he was told by a promoter one time 'Gaz play them something they know' to which he replied 'F**K em if they don't like this stuff they must all be morons' pure quality
  20. My view on this is simple if Pete can find a copy of Jimmy Beaumont for £60 then so can I, in fact mine was less than $20 and bought in the last year. I rarely buy from dealers though I have nothing against them, it is rare that there is a sound that I must have NOW. I'm willing to wait 'til I can turn one up at a decent price. My wants list has always been longer than the list of stuff I own so waiting isn't an issue. Some I'll never get but thats life I guess. Pete makes some very valid points and this shows why if your gonna buy off dealers he should be your first port of call.
  21. This depends when you want to run it. If after 25th November the venue will have applied for it's new hours under the new regime and should know whether or not it can open overnight. If it can then no problem if not it gets a little complictated as they should have applied for variations that will cover all eventualities and so a new application to vary will be treated as any new licence application. There may be the opportunity to apply for a TEN (temporary events notice) you can have a limited number (12) per year per venue. There must be less that 500 people attending and the event may not last more that 96 hours (not a problem that one). You need to apply at least 10 days in advance to the local authority and there will be a fee of around £25. The relevant local authority's web site should give you details of restrictions format etc. Good Luck
  22. It isn't
  23. Never really been a factor that would make me go to one venue over another. I like seeing artists live but not at a soul night. I have seen some great performances saying that Barbara Lynn and Prince Philip Mitchell were both superb at Fleetwood . I agree they are on too late though, put em on early and get em out of the way.
  24. the pressing plates from capital magnetics pressing plant '65 - '67
  25. Do you mean 'True Lovers' ? I love that maybe this thread demonstrates why the scene is like it is. Too many tastes too broad a spectrum of sounds people think of a 'northern' I don't think of TL as northern rather as rare soul even though it isnt rare Isn't this music we all love just the most bizaar yet facinating genre around
