  1. Interesting point this. Without wanting to start the whole OVO debate again this has an effect. We used to travel to hear people because they had particular tracks or even styles we liked or maybe even had just heard about. I think people do this less and less now.
  2. I'd have said about £600 but thats a guess not seen one for sale for yonks
  3. This is a strangely interesting thread when you understand it
  4. The Sam Fletcher Pic Sleave was only on the demo not the issue so I guess that has added to it's scarcity.
  5. One from me now I know what the thread is about: Donna Hightower - Ain't that Love - Capitol Got this on British and US fairly cheaply but the US Picture sleave cost me $65 for the sleave alone much more than either 45.
  6. Some of the 'big names' do put the numbers up. But only by having four people with them all carrying a record box each. All of whom expect to come in as a guest of the DJ. More neck than a giraffe some of them.
  7. I didn't pay £400 for mine but would pay that in a heartbeat if I didn't already have one.
  8. For me the difference lies in the expectations of punters. Returnees will recognise the term 'Northern' and will expect the traditional 'Northern' as may be defined by PeteS. Rare soul for me at least is more about the rarity in terms of how hard they are to obtain and how rarely they are heard. The tempo is less important than at a Northern Event but the 'Soul' is more important. Some records from the rare scene are compatable with the term 'Northern' many are not. Many records that are compatable with the term 'Northern' are not soulful but are rare. Hope that clears that one up now I'll sort out the peace process in the middle east
  9. I have about 20% of what I want but Margaret says that's already too many Anyway we have agreed they are ours not just mine so if we ever split up we will split em 50/50 I get all the vinyl she gets all the sleeves can't say fairer than that.
  10. Never had an original of this and not sure of the differences between a real one and a boot. But the seller is Flanny so can't imagine he would sell a boot as an original unless he was sure.
  11. In terms of cover ups Butch's Masquraders would be my #1 In terms of other records Mixed Feelings Sha-la-la will be massive this year 'til some ****** brings out a boot.
  12. As Roly said I was offered £3k CASH for my Hamilton Movement. A serious collector wanted to know if it was for sale I said 'No' and later his partner made the cash offer as she wanted to get him for 'his birthday'. As I refused we'll never know if the money would have materialised but knowing what he spends on records I strongly suspect it would have. I was called 'mad' at the time by a number of people but basically refused for two reasons: 1. I am a collector (If you understand then I don't need to explain. If you don't understand then I can't explain); and 2. I had said it wasn't for sale and making such an extortionate bid felt to me like I was being given an offer I wouldn't refuse. Doesn't matter what the offer is not for sale means not for sale just because someone has more free money than me doesn't mean anything I own they can have if they offer me enough money. I'm sure the offer wasn't meant to appear arrogant or patronising and had the record been for sale I'd have jumped at the offer. Same old story I guess a record is worth what the buyer will pay and the seller will accept.
  13. oops Drunk.bmp
  14. "Travel Sickness" can be terrible after attending a soul do
  15. Rarer Better
  16. Wow Sid you really off to Spain then?? Never thought you would ever part with some of these tunes.
  17. A belated victory for common sense maybe
  18. Consider the following: Waterstones sell a copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - A portion of the price paid goes to JK Rowling. The person who buys that book after reading it lists it on ebay and sells it - JK Rowling neither gets or expects any money from the sale. Just as it should be If however I were to print my own copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and sell them JK Rowling would have every right to be hacked off and would probably sue. Everyone can see that printing my own copies of HP (or, with all due respect to Alan's Daughter, counterfieting Channel purses) would be illegal and immoral. Why should records be any different?
  19. It could be that Maye Luquet was affected by Katrina but lets hope not.
  20. Andrea Davis - You Gave me Soul and Lonely Girl on Chess = Minnie Riperton. She took that name in honour of her mentor Billy Davis aparently
  21. Quality
  22. If you know the names you'll know how their knowledge and taste in music was (is) infectious: Sandy Moutain Gaz Kellet
  23. It's not yet 7 a.m. for fosland but I've PM'd him to let him know about the thread and asking him to explain. I guess we wait to hear from him.
  24. I have a white lable test press of this. Any one know how many were done? Not sure about the 'Wale' pressing either never seen one of them. Decent enough tracks but not a patch on 'Nothings' IMHO
