  1. What a wise person you are
  2. Forget the pidgeon holes altogether good SOUL is good SOUL whenever it was recorded. The fact is it is harder and harder to find tunes that are genuinely not known on the scene. This has lead records from both earlier and later being played on the scene. If you think about it the alternative was tried and the Casino namely expaning what gets played except they didn't expand into the 50's and 70's ( I know there are notable exceptions ) they expanded away from soul music. I know I'd rather here 50's or even up to new released soul than some of the pop dross that surfaced at Wigan. People should worry less about playing things they believe in even if they are cheap / easy to find rather than not being brave enough and thinking well if it's worth X hundred pounds my credibility cannot be a risk. I think on the original point what is 'played out' really does depend on where you go. It's within the last few weeks that people were saying on here that the Ad Libs - Johhny My Boy is hardly ever played. In some parts of the North West it was hammered couple of years ago. Some of top three candidates for over played in need of a rest oldies would be Just a Little Misunderstanding One Wonderful Moment Do I Love You These are not BAD records but would benefit from not being played for 5 years or so perhaps then I could get the tingle down my spine again when I heard them. (maybe not though they may have been killed off altogether for me at least) Not an oldie but I am sick of hearing Somethings Wrong - Chris Clark every time I go out anywhere. P.S. I don't know why I get involved in these discussions its almost impossible to get the point over effectively on a forum and people are always so entranched anyway.
  3. Any luck with the Black Nasty Pete? If you get offered two I need one. For some reason mine has gone astray so its the only one missing out of the set. Anyone? Demo prefered - Not one of those hooky ones with the white centre though
  4. Outrageous Mr Trouble Outrageous
  5. The interesting thing for me about this auction is the bidder hunkypants66 - new ebayer only for purchases none of which are records then fires in with three wapping bids on this. I'd be a more than a little wary about this being shill bidding.
  6. I've never seen a boot that colour. the ones I have seen are grey. I am sure it's just the scan not that I'm bidding on it anyway but hope its genuine for the buyer at least.
  7. I have a 4 hour VHS of RSG from when compilation shows were shown on (I think) channel four in the early 80's. Not watched it for years some soul stuff and some chart and a cool clip of some dancers doing the latest dance -The Bread and Butter to the Newbeats
  8. Johnny Barnes at 750 euros is a bargain
  9. I'll have one back for what you paid me Just kidding Miff a deal is a deal I think I've still got more than one anyway
  10. £51 for Broadway Cissy Sold 2 copies on here last year for less than that for the pair. So the person who set their bidnapper at £85 has a right to feel a bit peeved then
  11. I know I think it because its a wma file I need to convert it to mp3 I think but thats a bit beyond me
  12. I guess it's called wild one but artist and lable anyone?
  13. I just have 8 different ebay ID's only two of which are common knowledge That does limit your feedback score but at least sellers can see it
  14. Rising prices has been a self fulfilling prophesy over the last few years, once a price guide came out dealers in the US wanted that price and so dealers found it hard to access them cheaper so had to inflate the selling price to make a crust. The next price guide then shows the inflated price and off we go again, of course it can't go on like that forever. I accepted a long time ago that certain records I will never own because loads of people rate them higher in value that I do. Having said that I got one of them this week at around 1/3rd of it's usual list price. The list of stuff I want is always gonna be bigger than that I own and I only buy to keep so to me they are always a cost and never an investment so anything that allows me to get some of the ones I thought were out of reach is a good thing. Not sure there'll be anyone to play them to though
  15. That's it Pete
  16. Ken, The copy I told you about is still there. Be sure to hit the SUBMIT button and not the NEW STUFF button.
  17. What really annoys me is the fact that they charge you tax on the whole cost INCLUDING shipping . And then VAT on the whole cost including shipping and the duty. So tax on the shipping cost which is of no value to you and then VAT on that tax on that shipping. You can underdeclare the actual cost of the records but try disguising the shipping cost of 132 boxes at around $48 dollars a piece when it is clearly stated on the outside of the box.
  18. Yes the font used is smaller than on Arctic originals and it is quite obvious when you compare with any orig Arctic demo.
  19. You sure you would know it from Mighty Lover on the first note?

  23. At the lifeline weekender last year Tim Brown announced he'd pitched down by 2 the C.O.D.'s 'She's Fire' was still too fast IMO.
  24. I don't think it has to be that particular 'type' of soul for many of the people on this site. Just the oldies brigade Just check out the reactions the Freddie North clip Pete posted. It's a sixties record but it ain't northern in the way you mean at least. It is rare soul though and for me at least it has a place at a soul event maybe only as an ender but it is soul of the highest order IMO. I wouldn't dream of playing some of my records at a soul event of course but that doesnt stop me listening to them at home or in the car. /index.p...ic=33893&hl=
