  1. Following Dave Thorleys lead hers two I would like to know if anyone has details on them. They are the off the same acetate and sound like the same group to me but just the first half of each track on one sound file. You should know by now I can't do all the techie sound stuff so this is how they were sent to me. Any info appreciated
  2. They're smiling to your face but all the time they want to take your royalties the backstabbers
  3. I remember the Eddie Carlton but wouldn't have been able to name it. I prefer the Neil sound and now you've told us how cheep it was you'll be looking to give it a good home I guess .
  4. Until I heard it I thought it may once have been owned by Neil Henderson from the Hideaway in Manchester but clearly thats the title of the track. Nice tune not a type I would associate with you though Dave.
  5. Their 'No Doubt About It' was inspired by the band having a close encounter with a UFO. Or so Errol said when I saw him at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool about '92. It makes sense if you listen to the lyrics but I can't vouch for how genuine the sighting was. :fool:
  6. Do you get paid on the 23rd? And what was wrong with February was there nothing you liked
  7. Airmail post should have been here by now. If he posted surface it could take up to 7 weeks. Thats how long I waited for my Silhouettes and I paid a bit more than $5 so I did satrt to flap a bit.
  8. I, like most of you I guess, look at reused packaging on records to see its history. You can find some good new contacts that way. I once had a record delivered in packaging that originaly had been used by a seller in the states who I didn't know when I wrote (Pre email days obviously) to him I ended up with several items I was after at the time. So its something I've always done. Today I received a record from Richie Andrew who some of you will know. Interestingly the packaging had been used to to send a record from a guy in Detroit to a well known North Wales record dealer's address but not under the dealers own name . Needless to say I'll be writing to the guy in Detroit now I have an address just to see if he has anything of interest. Anyway between the stiffeners used in the package as well as my new 45 there was an American Express receipt from a record that John Maship sold on 16/09/2003 with the cardholders name written on it. Coincidently he too is called Parker . This was obvioulsy included, as John does, in the package when he sent it out to the buyer. As is John habit the first part of the card # is crossed out but as the receipt is over 3 years old the numbers are visible through the ink. So I now have an American Express # for a card that does not expire until April this year and the cardholders name . Obviously I'm not going to start buying rare records over the phone with these details but imagine the other Mr Parker's problem explaining the record purchases are not his when he clearly uses this card to buy records. Just glad these aren't my details in some one else's less scruplious hands. Amazing what you can find out just from the stuff used to pack what we buy isn't it.
  9. Love the Paul Mitchell Trio but mine is on a different lable design. The change over to the new design must have coincided with the release. I have A.B. White 'Check Yourself' on the same design as your copy Tommy and always thought that was a later release. Perhaps it one of those releases that happened in the middle of a lable design change over or maybe different pressing plants had different designs. It so hard to find I can't see there being two seperate releases? But maybe I'm wrong
  10. Thing is Pete we can't ever do that can we. Hear them both again for the first time I mean. I loved FW I even did the whole down on one knee proposal with it playing in the background but I know I'd rather hear the Mellow Souls now if on a night out.
  11. Didn't mean to sound critical Paul if that's how it came across. I'm sure he knew he was sailing close to the wind I was just suprised that Mark raised the fact "he seamed a nice fella" as if that made a difference I know it won't to the people looking into his activities, but that's their job. Ignorance (and I don't believe he was ignorant) is no defence nor for that matter is amnesia.
  12. Some good points, but and it is a big but, I don't think anyone dislikes a record because it is popular rather they go off a record because it gets over exposed. Frank Wilson is over exposed the Mello Souls isn't. This brings the point about boots into sharp relief. I dare say if there were as many different issues, legitimate or otherwise, of the Mellow Souls as there is of Frank Wilson many of us would be tired of that too. It doesn't stop being a great record we just get tired of hearing it so often. There aren't any soul records I'd rather not own than own so I'll have any you or anyone else is giving away.
  13. I know what these multi-agency enforcement activities can be like . Try having the Local Licensing Authority, EHO, Trading Standards, Police and Fire Brigade turn up at one of your venues when there are 2,200 people in at 11:30 on a Friday night to carry out an enforcement visit. I almost feel sorry for him (not). I wonder if they will go easy on him if he's a 'nice fella'
  14. You'll be looking at about £40 I guess. Mine came from Anglo who advised to beware though as there are some v.good counterfeit ones done in the 80's for the US market. Apparently they have a slightly raised edge to the vinyl.
  15. The Masqueraders - I Ain't Gonna Stop - AGP for me their best
  16. I nearly bought one last year 'til Pete Smith gave me the low down on here. It looked genuine in the low quality scan I was sent but compared it to one on popsike and couldn't be sure so passed it up. Nice tune though
  17. well if you don't know...........
  18. I remember the mod revival all too well I had the misfortune of really getting into the scene, although I had been buying rare soul from Sandy Mountain for years, around '76 and boy did anyone new on the scene get looked down on then. I think there is even someone on here with the signature "Push divs off the balcony" a common sentiment back then. It was as if we were at fault for being born 10 years later than them. Incidently many of the hostile people then I still see around they have long since left the scene and the music behind so much for me and others not being 'proper' soul fans. I'm sure newcommers on the scene today get treated as poorly so why the hell would they bother.
  19. young people are getting into the music but not the scene. They attend events like Brighton Beach and fatpoppadaddy's in their thousands every week and are exposed to northern to some degree. They do not care about format, originality, price, etc they just judge the music as music. There are fans of rockabilly attending R&B nights and mixing with 'Mods' and there was more than one quiff on the dancefloor at the Hideaway's anniversarry on Saturday night. Some of the so called rituals of the scene that many, including me, hold dear mean nothing to the newcommers to the music.
  20. soulfulsaint on here has a post wanting this on the 45 you could pm him.
  21. I think you're right to be cautious Gene. What is it with Belgians . I'd insist he pays how you advertise or issue a non paying bidder alert and claim back my fees from ebay. You could always ask him to supply his bank details with a signed direct debit mandate so you can just draw the correct amount out of his account. He may see your point of view then.
  22. It's a '76 release took me over five years to get one. Mind you I was only asking people off the scene about it I didn't want to alert others to it.
  23. The King Pins on Federal later to become the Kelly Brothers who actually were mostly the Kelly Brothers all along - Andrew (baritone), Robert (tenor), and Curtis Kelly (high tenor), plus Offe Reese (tenor).
  24. So I'm not the only one who can't go to bed after a do until I've played the records I was hoping to hear but didn't . You got sick of that Chandlers yet Phil?
