  1. Quick draw bloody McGraw
  2. Good value at £15 the flip is a 'I believe in you' is a different style but better IMO great 2 sider not heard out much due to it's low price.
  3. Ms Hawkins will be 70 in January lets hope she's around to see it.
  4. Well people I can now confirm for your info that these two releases are exactly the same. I guess the 'Love' release was first. It must be rarer than the Mabel one as no one appears to know it on the label.
  5. There'll always be stuff thats new on the (public) scene but many more things sit in collections never to be played out. I like to play stuff I think no one knows but am often told "so and so played that years ago" . The one on my current avatar 'You're Different' by the Soul Aces has yet to have that leveled at it, though I'm always asked about it after a set. Theres more stuff I don't know than know even amoungst known stuff sound like Donald Rumsfeld now
  6. Obsolutely we should have our own opinions and I'm not suggesting we should all think alike. I just can't understand people who generalise about people based on their race rather than seeing individuals as just that individuals. I find it all the more odd when people on this scene, with its unherent ties to the race issues in the states in the 60's, think like that. But then I can't understand people who generalise about music based upon which decate it was recorded in.
  7. Like I said I didn't see the programme and if thats what he said thats not racism. Lots of newbies feel unwelcome I know I did back in the 70's and we've debated on here before how new blood is treated until they've earned their stripes.
  8. Thats not what I said. Perhaps I misunderstood the question. There isn't anything inherently racist about the scene but the scene is made up of people and some of them hold views I consider to be racist. I don't think there was anything 'Institutionally Racist" with the Met either as an Institution cannot in itself be racist but can have racist people within it or have formal policies and procedures that are discriminatory. It was found that the Met didn't have formal policies and procedures that were discriminatory on the grounds of race but it had a culture of racism. I don't believe that made it institutionaly racist because change the people and the culture changes. On that basis I am not saying that the scene itself is racist. I am saying that some of the people I have met and spoken too on the scene hold racist views. It's hard to racially abuse people who are'nt there. There were no asians at football games in the 70's so I can't give any examples of asians actually being abused there either. And for the record I didn't bring the subject up - Racism was the topic. Or are you saying that racism has different definitions depending the race of the person concerned?
  9. Disagree all you like. I'm talking about people I've met and listened to. I'm not suggesting its anything other than a tiny minority but in absolute numbers its many.
  10. Didn't see the programme or the post to be honest. But I agree there is a racist element on the scene. We do have black attendees at venues for sure and without any problems. I couldn't see anyone turning away a black punter at all, well not in my experience. However if you get onto the subject of asians, well the views held by many people on the scene are best summed up as racist. IMO
  11. Don't mix up contracts and copywrite. Usually recorded material copywrite persists for 50 years. If someone sells the rights to a given recording there are usually conditions and even if not then a bootlegger infringes the rights of the new owner. That's not to mention the falsification of logos (which someone owns the rights to) and designs which are evident in this case and the misrepresentation that is obviously in breach of TDA.
  12. A boot is an illegal copy of a record or recording that is released without the consent on the owner of the rights to the work. A re-issue is the legitimate issue of a record by the owmer of the rights subsequent to the first issue. Calling a boot a re-issue is misleading and does not stop it being a bootleg.
  13. Epitome of Sound around £100-£120 for a Ex copy Millionaires £50 for a minter IMO
  14. come on you guys someone must know?
  15. Don't think Sam was one that complained at the time but we did get some people really pissed off because so and so was 50p more than them and questions like "Who's gonna be 'refrereeing' at venues to keep scores?" I guess the humour was too subtle for some
  16. Are these two records the same recording? The Meastro and Company (Featuring Jay Poole) ins't list anywhere except Jason Perlmutters Carolinas Web Site. The Mabel release has (I think) production credits to Meastro and Company. Any one know if they are the same take? and an approx value for the Love issue? As always help appreciated
  17. Now remember children (especially the DJ's on here) its only a game
  18. I've mentioned this on here before but thought I'd lost all the info. This "competition" was included in the Fanzine 'In The Neighbourhood' issue 15. I just turned up a copy in an old box and thought it may spark some interesting comments. I've scanned the front and back of the application form and will add the inside, with all the DJ's prices in a while. People took it so seriously with complaints about not being included, their value realtive to others and which category they had been put in . Hell we even had a couple of people send back entries . Enjoy
  19. Favourite for me was "Obscure non hit by this productive latino group - $8" On the cover for 'Girl Your Gonna Make Me Cry - Thee Midnighters'
  20. If it were about quality then £200 would be too cheap (IMO £500 might be too cheap if it was just about quality) but it's not it's about availability any one that wants this and is prepared to wait a few weeks can pick one up for £100. Just because JJ Barnes - Please Let Me In is better than Gene Toones doesn't make it a £2k record
  21. www.covers33.co.uk should do you
  22. Well it's the Black Issue but only if it's the mislabled Southbound Freeway one. Then the yellow and blue demo and most common is the black issue. It really did sell quite well so no idea why it should be so expensive.
  23. £80 - £120 IMO. The issue is rarer so should be to the top of that scale I guess
  24. If it were a village pub surely there only be one idiot?
  25. There's lots of crap on the scene always has been always will be, can't get rid of me though. I have to say that ther have been some shocking things on the scene but nothing has shocked me more than hearing Shane's had two girlfriends.
