  1. You talk a lot of sense for a Parker Des I know I had a DJ/Promotor I know and respect come up and ask me about the Ravenettes only to lose interest when I told him it was only worth about £30 and I found that a little sad. As for the two scenes question without a doubt there are two scenes and has been for a long time. On one of the scenes things like boots being played matter on the the other it doesn't. Can a promotor play boots coause they can its their event and their money at risk and their punters to please. Each DJ will decide which scene he want to get bookings on and act acordingly IMO. If you want to decide who promotors can and can't book be a promotor. If you want to see more 'serious' DJ's get more spots support the nights that focus on this. All to many serious soul events with great DJ's with great collections (Or if I dare use the awful term 'hotboxes') are half empty. Supply and demand we get the scene we deserve, we are willing to support and back.
  2. Great tune this. Puts me in mind of the Harvey track "any way you wanta"
  3. I've no idea what I spend on records in a year and actually going out on the scene if you take out the records costs no more than a night out in the local and heading off to a club. If I actually put a value on it I suspect I'd spend less i've no intention selling any that I don't have doubles of so there 'value' is not really an issue for me. As Col Murphy always says you can spend £500 of fishing kit in no time at all, there aren't many hobbies that come FOC.
  4. I have tracked items in the past on the Royal Mail site. You netre the 13 digit number in the tracking box but from memory you have to change the US (country Identifier) to GB. It should tell you where in the system the package is. If it hasn't left the US yet use the usps site Dave posted.
  5. Got it in one as usual Chalkster. Mind you I'm less and less concerned about what others do now we aint gonna change em so leave em to get on with it I say. I' don't usually even buy releases such as these but must say I'm well tempted by this lot.
  6. I think you're right Pete but for a diffrerent reason. For me the sales are less important that the fact that demos were usually stored away after a short run of plays on radio stations or even no plays at all in record store. Issues however were bought, granted sometimes in low numbers, to be played and were often not cared for, stuck on those 60's auto changer spindles with 9 other records, played with by kids all the time the demos were sitting neatly filed in a archive somewhere. No wonder there are more demos in playable condition than issues. IMHO I'd give £200 for a demo and nearer £400 for an issue but I'm not really a British collector they are a funny breed.
  7. It was that Geoff Claxton honest
  8. Ted was doing his best to add to that moutain last night
  9. Yes but I can't find it
  10. Go on then Lou I'll give you back your investment in the Venturas just to show not everyone looses out
  11. They are classified as Northern or Rare when appropriate aren't they And as Detroit or club soul or crossover or girly vocals or instromentals etc etc.
  12. Ironing board on a pleasure cruiser and week in Barbados on your box no problemo Mark
  13. A mate once said to me would you take £x for your play box if someone offered it you. I immediately said "damn right" until I started to tot up the records in there very soon was way past the £x figure. Even I was suprised
  14. That's a good example probably books at over £150 and it's not a real favourite of mine and if I had it I'd never play it out. But if I saw one for the right price and had the ready cash I'd buy it. So I guess if the price was right I'd rather own it than not. Not sure if that makes sense to anyone but me but I know what I mean
  15. Yep I can't think of a soul record off the scene that I'd rather not own than own. But not at any price.
  16. I've had some of my records longer than the kids and the oldest is 24 but if I needed to choose the records would go. When the kids were young and I couldn't afford to buy I didn't. There only a couple of times I've felt really selfish when shelling out for tunes that I shouldn't have bought (Jimmy Burns and Hamilton Movement) at the time but many more times I've passed up 'bargains' as at the time I had more important things to buy (school uniforms etc.) I remember truning down a Groovettes for £50 as I had to pay for a school trip to Germany. Record collecting is serious and an obsession but lets keep it in perspective.
  17. Interesting debate this. I don't have a limit as such but never buy records (or rarely) at the market rate. Dealers turn up copies they can profit on if they sell them at the market rate (or even cheaper if you take PeteS's prices). So I try to aquire such tunes missing out the middle man if you like. I, as I guess most people on here, have a limited fund to buy with and don't like selling so I can't afford to buy the latest big thing and any way the list of records I want is massive so there's always something I can find to suit my pocket. Today I have ordered five M- 45's and shelled out $97 including postage the 'book' value of these five is £300+. Even if none of them go big in future I've had value and bought 5 records I wanted. We just have to work harder and look harder to get value now.
  18. Saw one a couple of months back at $150 and nearly bought it as thought that was double cheap but other things caught my eye of the same list. It has of course gone now.
  19. Yes deffinately - Mixed Feelings - Sha-la-la emptied the floor every time I played it for 3 or 4 months mind you I didn't sell it. I'm currently emptying floors with Flight - "Playing Your Games" on SGA but I'll stick with it. Maybe when Sam or Butch start to play it out people will realise what a tune it is.
  20. What about Ed Crook - That's Alright or Chuck Henley - Broken Heart
  21. Mark, This is sad news for the listeners as whoever fills your spot (or trys to) will lack a certain something for me at least. I'm sure you have your reasons for bringing this chapter to a close and hope you know how appreciated the show has been. I'm sure you'll go out with the customary enthusiasm you've always shown even when you say you've not neccesarily felt it it never been apparent. I'll miss your knowledge and style of presenting. Good luck in where life takes you next I know what ever medium or part of the scene you interact with it'll be the better for it. And just to show this isn't a faux tribute and to show balance I can imagine the headlines in the fanzines now "Mark Bicknell in I'm Retiring Shock" - No one thought It would ever happen Enjoy the rest mate, catch up soon for a beer I hope.
  22. Check the ebay sales links section one minute before you posted
  23. Mikey, I have had two copies of this in the past one with a scrathed in matrix and the other stamped and bought them both as originals but sold the first copy (with the scratched matrix) when I got the second (stamped). I sold the first (for peanuts) believing it to be a boot but have since leaned it was genuine with the 'daisy' stamp in the run out. I'm sure Pat would't make the same mistake but I think there is a value difference in the two issues anyway. I think the details on the labels were both the same and same issue numbers but from memory the paper quality was different. One glossy the other matt I'm at work so can't check but it may help your sale if you add if its stamped and if it has the gloss or matt label. Just a suggestion.
