  1. Worry when they sting you for £2,890 . Its the fact that they charge you on the cost of the postage too that annoys me ohh and the VAT of course ohh and the fact they charge VAT on the duty and on the postage costs as well. I rarely moan about taxes but paying tax on the tax is taking it a bit far IMO. Still the deal was worth it
  2. 'The 20 Grand Lounge' for me
  3. Girlie??????? Are we talking about the same track? I'm obviously being stupid here doh! You're joking obviously
  4. Hand luggage as long as they will fit . If you have to send them in the hold ensure you have a top quality full flight case. A "Caution Bio Hazard" lable for the outside is worthwhile as well
  5. Having now heard the WK version I feel the Metros is better, perhaps less interesting as its heard quite often, but definately better IMO.
  6. Indeed it does look like one of yours. Isn't it strange how these items can resurface years later. I wonder where the photocopy lables from then, it's not an easy record to track down as you know. Surely if they wanted to make it look 'authentic' they'd have used an 'audiodisc' lable or something similar. Anyway as long as bidders know what they are getting I don't have an issue but the wording is if I'm generous a bit vague so though I'd highlight it here rather than my old tactic of emailing any bidders. Nearly ended up in a fist fight at a venue last time I did that
  7. So Simon it is a custom cut rather than a company acetate then? Did you also colour photocopy the label to stick on it or is that a later addition? I didn't think vinyl acetates were around 20 years ago?
  8. Flight is a brilliant tune too, shame its just a carver
  9. I know Steve I checked it, but don't know why item number 150169833361
  10. Oh dear https://cgi.ebay.com/MEGA-RARE-7-of-FLIGHT-...1QQcmdZViewItem Item number 150169833361
  11. Like hitting the post rolling along the goal line and going out for a goal kick I think we've all bought a few of these, hell Russ W used to play em
  12. Rob, It would be interesting to know what format RT had this in when he played it you? Reel to Reel, Cassette, Acetate or Carver? I think this could well settle the whole debate (spat)
  13. Cheers Chalkster wish I hadn't typed all that out now
  14. Well Matt there must be more educated people on this subject than me but here's my understanding. Typically each mike in the studio is linked to a strata of 3/4 inch tape through the mixing desk and is laid down as a single track. These tracks can be adjusted seperately and where necessary added to or taken away. The early 60's had artists adjusting their volume by how hfar away from the mike they were then 4 track, 8 track, 16 track recordings came on stream. The master tape is then used to cut an acteate to check sound quality and maybe if the recording has been done with a studio artist employed by the writer it can be hawked around to publishers, established artists, record labels etc in an attempt to sell or gain work. There is apparently or indeed was an Acetate of Van McCoy doing 'You Gonna Make Me Love You' which he used to demonstrate how the record should be performed before it was redone by Sandi Shelton (That may be an urban myth though) If it is cut by the label and they are happy with the sound it then is sent to the pressing plant where two 'mother plates' are produced one for each side. These kind of reverse the playing of a 45 in that the sound is input and a lathe then cuts the track into a metal plate. These are the pressing plates and are like a negative of the 45 and include the obviously reversed matrix details and all dead wax detail. You can even play these if you reverse your deck though few survive as they were usualy recycled often being made of copper. These mother plates often called 'stampers' are what the pressing plant use to press the vinyl or styrene with the labels being added at the same time. Often different mixes made their way to either different pressing plants or the same plant where multiple presses were used just purely as the acetate was cut with a different mix from the master tape. There mother plates were not everlasting obviously so on big runs purther plates may have needed to be produced and often these new plates would have the matrix detail ammended slightly. It is the master tapes that now allow us to hear just the vocals or just the instrumentals as we heard when Pete Smith posted some motown stuff some months back. I saw some years ago a guy who had bought some rock and roll 78's in Memphis and the store had used some old stampers to pack them in for his journey back to the UK. These then turned out to be the stampers for two of Elvis' Sun 78's which he auctioned via Sotherbys for serveral £,000. Sure others can correct or add detail.
  15. Ken, I've heard you cover-ups more time than I've heard this track and I've only heard them once. Well when I say once I don't mean all the way through obviously
  16. For me James that's the crux of the matter, if Rob doesn't have the rights then its a boot and what was a childish stunt becomes a little more sinister. The DJ concerned took Rob at face value. I'm not sure he deserved embarrasing in that way. If someone out there could legitimately lay their hands on the Master Tapes for the Mello Souls that would be different because that actually got a release. IMO
  17. Why? If someone with the pedigree of Rob asked me to play a track he'd recorded from the Master Tape, sure I'd preview it through the headphones first but if it sounded ok I'd probably play it especially if it was an early spot. Not sure he deserves any more humiliation than he's already had
  18. I was given a copy of this in 77/ 78 as one of the first 100? into an all-dayer at the Ritz. It was vinyl but had the labels reversed. Can't remember anything else about it though. I always assumed it was a boot unless someone had turned up a load which I doubt and if they had why give them away? So there must have been a late 70's vinyl boot as well.
  19. Great thread this, very entertaining. Only from what I've read as I don't know the people involved personally I think the following: Rob has a beef with James. Rob deliberately set out to upstage James by proxy. The DJ who played the track looks to have done so in good faith and was treated attrociously. James should forgo any right to any DJ etiquete having removed a record whilst in play and whilst not certain of it being as he terms it a 'boot'. If Rob owns the Master Tape (and presumably the Rights to the Track) he can issue it to whom ever he want's in whatever format he wants for what ever price he wants. If he doesn't and has had a copy carved from an illicit tape it is a bootleg and James has a right to feel agreaved (though not IMO take the 45 off the decks). Thing is James didn't know for sure when he removed the 45 and still doesn't know for sure now. Saying that whether the recording is done from the master tape or a dodgy tape is irrelevant doesn't make it irrelevant. The 'original' acetate James has was in all probability recorded from a master tape rather than directly from the studio feed and to me is no more valid than the master tape itself or indeed any recording subsequently made from that tape as long as it is made by the owner of the rights to the recording. No one question the validity (rightly IMO) of a 100 club 45 recorded from the master tape by the owner of the rights and no one questions one being played out. You asked for views James and those are mine.
  20. I used to dance a hell of a lot more than I do now, I'd only stop for a drink or a p155. Now though if I'm free of a sales box and not in the record room I dance in bursts; some DJ's just hit the spot I guess. Even when I don't dance and spend all night in the record room I've paid as much money as anyone else to get in so I can still have an opinion and just because I'm not dancing doesn't mean I'm having a bad time.
  21. https://www.bagsunlimited.com/cart/browse.asp?subcat=27 Try here. If you get white ones be sure to get acid free paper!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Its a rare one Pete. The release Black Sheep 102 come out twice with different flips to "Cool" Kiss and Run was the first issue then "You Better Move On" / "Cool" on BS 102 Black Sheep is a Texan Label no idea of value though
  23. It'll be in superb condition too Sue's stuff generally is. Bought mine about five years ago after hearing Colin Newton play it at the Neighbourhood. It was listed on ebay under the promise side so $6 or $7 me being the only bidder . Colin and Eileen Newton supplied loads of stuff that got played in the early 70's particularly at the Mecca so wouldn't suprise me if this was one of them.
  24. John Anderson for me. Discovering new sounds and getting them aired is what it all about isn't it?
  25. Top top tunage this and only about £30-£40 if you can find one that is. I wasn't actively looking for one because I expected one to turn up sooner or later still it took a while.
