  1. Across 110th Street was first used in the film of the same name and then in Jackie Brown its been used in another film recently as well but can't just think at the mo. Superb record too.
  2. Jesus Dolly you could have warned us before posting such a pic thought it was christmas not halloween Hope your well again soon Neil mate See you at Middleton
  3. I had one of these but gave it away with a load of cheepies thinking it was pressing as I bought it very early on in my time on the scene as a boot. I've never had a real one to be sure if it was different. Don't know whether I hope it was a real one or not now.
  4. I'm amazed it took so many posts on this thread before the subject of royalties for playing records ijn public came up. Paying artists on the second hand sale is a stupid concept, paying PRS and PPL fees is not. I'll be told I'm a hypocrite by someone who pays these fees not by anyone else thank you very much.
  5. Depends how you define SOUL I guess. To me you don't have to be black to be soulful. TJ's tone power and quality of voice is fantastic. His ICBTN is as good as Ben E King's. It's clear by the volume of 'soul' covers he did he was very influenced by 'soul' music and he would (and has) define himself as an R and B artist. He's at least as soulful as Tony Galla if white artists are acceptable and if not why not? Not sure what you being Welsh has to do with it either?
  6. If you mean Mickey Quinn his dad used to run one of my pubs . He did have an average collection but someone managed to liberate it in the mid 90's
  7. I remember in about late '77 or early '88 me and Tony Giddings being offered a lift by Mick McGarry in his new (to him) Vauxhall Viva. We left Blackpool and all was OK until we approached Charnock Richards services when there was a mighty crash as the sump fell out of the car. It was pissing down too. We walked the mile or so to the services and explained our plight to the motorway coppers who made us go back to put the lights on on the viva (I don't think they'd get away with that now) Then when we got back to the services they kindly phoned us a taxi. The money I'd saved for a deal on a copy of the Precisions Such Misery went on the taxi fare and getting home. Didn't manage to get a copy until about a year later and when I did it came out on Grapevine the following week .
  8. I think Construction - Hey Little Way Out Girl - Sync6 was the first £100 didn't it say that on the Grapevine issues picture cover??
  9. Hi Jay and welcome aboard. I guess if you're from Great Yarmouth and go to Brighton Beach at Leicester you're a student there? You will find a narrower spectrum of stuff played at 'Northern' events but it's still massively broad. Should echo the other on here buy what you like and go for cheap USA originals they'll hold their value relatively speaking. If you're not really planning on being that serious the Kent CD's are superb in content and packaging. What ever route you take there's always someone on here to help, none of us know everything, but Chalky, Tony Rounce and Pete S(mith) will usually have the answer between them. If you want to stay sane though steer clear of 'Freebasing' many of the posts in there are a special kind of stupid Ged
  10. Gene Mc Daniels - It Was Easier To Hurt Her.
  11. What about the 21st Century on Ultra City who did 'Hey James' where, if anywhere, do they fit in? If anyone has a copy of this btw I need another mine has a stress crack, it plays but I need to upgrade.
  12. I can be anwhere in the country come Friday evening so hard to plan for Friday nighters so Saturdays for me
  13. Don't see why they should if it's album only and a rare album at that £100 is a snip IMO, but only if the tune is 'your thing'. I'd have a bid on this if it was a 45 but I guess it would be way over £100 if it were. The cover-up may or may not disguise how rare (or common) it is, though I doubt Tommy is using that as the reason for not uncovering it.
  14. Didn't they do a version of "You've Been Cheating"
  15. Some of the single sided demos did have the other sides pressed and then 'sanded off' to ensure the 'right' side was played. I can't check as I'm away at the mo but there is at least one with smooth 'B' side. It appears that where the demos are double sided they are all double sided and where they are single they are all single. I'm not sure why they issued some as double and some as single but have to confess to trying to play the flip to the demo of Together Forever but alas not a trace of Dynamite Exploded. I think there are two different 'legit' issues on many of the run, blue writing on pale blue and black writing on even paler blue. I suspect that the palest blue with black writing were first presses. Memory tells me JM lists the differences in one of his guides. My single sided 'Rules of Love' WD doesn't have the 'Rules' crossed out.
  16. I'd swap one for a copy of Wade Flemons if you have one Seriously you should be able to buy a Sat night pass I'd have thought. Have you tried goldsoul's site?
  17. Who has told you that Paul? and why?
  18. Damon Fox - Packing Up - Fairmount You have expensive taste my friend. You can get a nice second hand car for less than £4,000 I bet.
  19. I concur.
  20. Cheers Boba, I've played the 'Married' side and the vocals are superb the top side is better though for me at least. They must have changed their name after the record had gone to press but before it was released I guess? Acording to Jason Permutters excellent site (www.carolinasoul.org) they are a South Carolina outfit. Actually I've just checked his site and he has this listed under the Ebonystic name (Why I didn't check that I don't know lol) so it must have come out with the name unaltered as well. Anyway I can't stop playing it
  21. Hearts of Fire - Ain't It Good To You - Scream 101 Just picked this up today and it's growing on me. Thing is the group name 'Hearts of Fire' is written in biro and the printed name EBONYSTIC is scored out. Can anyone shed any light on this 45?
  22. No Ian I think he means a lookalike boot that is very close to the original just no nashville matrix stamp. Can't tell the boot from the one in your scan.
  23. Never heard of it on ITZY I know Mickey Lee Lane was on ITZY before Swan but can't help you on this one it new to me.
  24. I have both versions unfortunately the 7th Avenue Aviators has a warp and crack that makes it unplayable but I think they are the same cut. I did hear that the intro was longer in the Frankie Karl version but not to my ears it isn't.
