  1. https://cgi.ebay.com/Invitations-WATCH-OUT-...1QQcmdZViewItem I take it you were outbid on this earlier today Phil?
  2. Not sure about the story but his accountant was Dickie Watt from Carlisle. The area has some damn fine collections and Dickie's is amongst the best, despite numerous raids on it from east Lancs
  3. Pete, We all have days like that (weeks for me sometimes) nil desperandum carborundum as they say. No one on here want to see you tied to a desk where you may not be able to get on here with your sometimes (albeit very rarely) useful contributions No one on here doubts your integrity not even Palermo if she is honest with herself. Stick at it I say. PS if the Jimmy Seals is priced as competitively as the Monique I'll have it.
  4. Or stuff you listen to that lets you know you're alive. Some get it some don't.
  5. I didn't drink in the 70's and now I'm always driving I do have little boogie to the Empires in my front room with a nice Merlot though.
  6. Pat Powdrill was a killer even back in the 70's. What about the Triumphs -I'm coming to your rescue. Or a class tune that is just the wrong tempo to dance to The Empires - You're On Top Girl. Just love this but a hard one to dance comfortably to.
  7. To me this is an original 1st issue of this recording of the track. She's clear enough in the listing and anyway doesn't everyone know, certainly anyone who will be in the market for records over £10 should know, about the provinance of this release.
  8. Seems like a reasonable swap Well someone had to say it
  9. I thought it was the last 7 recordings 113 to 119 that were pressed up in lots of 2,500 following the success of the Epsilons. I've always thought this was a bit bazaar as Les Chansonettes 114 is relatively easy and the Prophets 116, Counts 117, Enjoyables 118 and Cavaliers 119 much harder. Though I understand the theory of the latter ones pretty much all being destroyed in the fire at Waxy Maxy's you expect more to survive if 2,500 were pressed. All adds to the mystique I guess
  10. Oops missed that Pete. I knew I'd been told that he'd died; well I was 90% sure its my age you know
  11. This is sad news but I thought it was old news didn't he die last year? I may have this wrong or been mislead but I was told of his death some time ago. Either way he eventually got the recognistion he deserved albeit very late. His story goes someway to illustrate how cut throat the business was in the 60's and how dominant the 'Big' lables were with the radio stations. You can argue about the quality of the performances put out, the odd flat note or crack in the delivery and even that some of the arrangements were over complicated but no one can say the whole lable is not iconic, nor that many of them deserve their place as masterpeices of soul. The fact that Caladonia Brown stayed in the can all those years is a travesty in my opinion thanks should go to Ady and everyone at Kent for bringing it and other to us all those years later. RIP Eddie
  12. People that know you Pete, or at least have dealt with you, know the score I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. I sold a Charles Johnson once and the buyer wasnt happy with the grading I agreed to accept it back refunded the cost and postage and when the record arrived back with me I agreed it was no where near Ex. That's because it wasn't the same record. I think the buyer just upgraded their copy. There are some dodgy buyers in deed. Stick to you guns Pete.
  13. I looked at that Trev but have the Bell release so didn't bother, I played it in a Stafford spot at the Neighbourhood 4 room all dayer a few years ago, this and Donald Jenkins Somebody Help Me got loadsa people asking about them neither that expensive but I guess not that well known back then. Donald Jenkins has had a bit more exposure in the last five years or so but Royal Jokers yet to have it's day.
  14. Easy done mate
  15. Either you misunderstood me Ian or I'm misunderstanding you. I don't think it's right to play boots out I think this is why we have so many 'played out' oldies and so many identikit sets at soul nights. I'd prefer not to have heard many of these tunes since way back when because I know how I feel when I hear something that I haven't heard for 30 years at a do it can be mind blowing. I have, as I'm sure many have, had a well known DJ play a re-issue before my spot after I'd had the gaul to refuse to sell him my original on the same night. I lost a little respect for the said DJ at the time but had it been a boot and not a legit re-issue I think I may have reacted a little stronger. Listening to things at home or in the car is a totally different experience to hearing them at a venue. Hope that clears up my perspective.
  16. Playing the CD (as long as this is the original release) is fine to my mind but how many OVO Northern rooms have them? You have the right to transfer recording your have bought to another storage medium as long as it is for your own use so they are not bootlegs if you own the original. Analogue is a better recording medium than digital so there is no reson why a digital recording should loose any quality when transfered to analogue. As long as the mastering is up to scratch there should be no problems. Often with old boots their problems started with the source recording not being up to it.
  17. Surely the right description is 'Previously Un-released' once they have a legitimate release they are fair game to be played out and if the DJ prefers to have them carved for his preference as long as he bought the release and does intend selling the carver these tracks should be played. IMHO.
  18. If you want to hear the big money tunes that haven't been booted travel to hear the DJ's that have them and ask them to play them. That's what I and many others do. If your local OVO venues never play big money tunes talk to the promotors as has been said there are loads of DJs with expensive records they could book. (doesn't guarantee they're any good mind )
  19. I guess a minter would be £100 ish so a VG one half that. Anyway I'll know better when it arrives I have "Need a Helping Hand" already but on two different labels and can't resist a bargain and I've never heard this flip side.
  20. As a hint if you can't find it you may 'Need a Helping Hand'
  21. Do you know why you hear "the same old stuff" all the time? It's because if is accepatable to play Frank Wilson, Lou Pride etc etc ect on boots if people stuck to originals you'd hardly have heard these over the last 20 years and they'd still be records you wanted to hear. You can't have it both ways Bazza
  22. My daughter wanted a Lois Vuitton handbag but she worked a weekend job all summer and saved up for it. She could of course have bought a hooky one when we were on holiday for 5% of the price. Some things are (and should be) worth working, waiting and traveling for. Not everyone thinks that way I know, but this is not very different from the OVO debate really.
  23. I know the buyer and can't believe he bought this. Mind you he may have checked on posike first A man of impecable taste and a lot of knowledge made a simple (though costly) mistake I think.
  24. https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N:IT&ih=002 Nice record in here if you can spot it Not bad for a tenner including shipping
  25. Every DJ worth his (her) salt should be brave enough to risk emptying the floor. If you only want certainty we'll never move on. TJ Williams was a safe choice IMO don't you wish you'd emptied the floor with something adventurous now.
