  1. Maroon lable? I've got one somewhere I bought in the 70's. I've looked periodically for one with the picture sleeve I assume it came with when released but never found one. Mine has got the centre though. No idea on price now I only paid about the price of a new 45 a quid or so must be worth twice that now
  2. Mines not for sale but an excellent choice Sean
  3. Noticed the other day the run out details on a copy of Arctic 151 doesn't have the usual 'Virtue' script and instead has Ru-Jac. Its the only Arctic release I've seen Issue, Demo, Vinyl, Styrene, 1st or second release that wasn't pressed by virtue. Anyone know the story here?
  4. Tariff20D.pdf Jayne this is the tarrif and is about the clearest info we have on file. The clear view of my colleague, whose area of expertise this is, is that the venue should pay and he (as the ex entertainments manager at Keele) used to add this into the cost of hire of the venue. He also doubts the amount or music played at a northern event would be within the PRS's "repertoire" would be significant. Their repertoire is the range of music they have an agreement to collect royalties for. Obvioulsy this will cover the main UK lables and some of the US majors on a reciprical agreement. So another reason only to play the rare stuff .
  5. Jayne, No simple answers I'm afraid. It is a bit of a mine field: Firstly there is the Public Performance Licence (PPL). This covers the royalties which are paid to the performers for the music. The second licence that you require is the Performing Rights Society Licence (PRS). This covers the royalties which are paid to the composer of the music and the lyrics (for example the song writer). Mostly these are covered by the venue but sometimes PRS and PPL come after promotors / DJ's particularly where a venue can't or won't quantify what venue users play. GLD01.pdfLicensing_Royalties.pdf These two documents may help but I would caution you to make every effort to get the venue to take responsibility for this not only because it can be costly but also because it is very very time consuming. It has taken a colleague of mine 18 months to gain a settlement from PPL for Students' Unions (most of whom had been exempt as regisetred charities until PPL successfully lobied the Gov't for a change in the law.)
  6. Stick em on the shelf and forget about them and hope everyone else does for 10 years. It was great last year when someone (Pete Smith I think) posted a youtube clip of Joe Mathews -She's My Beauty Queen. Routed it out when I got home sounded superb.
  7. The Real Side release is a recent release with the longer previously unreleased version on the flip. Certainly not original British and obviously not original import. It is a limited edition though. You can get one from John Manship.
  8. A few cheapies for me: The Jades - Gotta Find Me Somebody to Love - Imperial Demo (Superb uptempo dancer) Tommy Sands - The Statue - Liberty Demo (memories of '78) Uptowns - Things Go Better with Love - Shangri-la (Sweet Soul) Tommy 'T' - Love makes the world go rount - Inter Soul (A 'modern' masterpiece) All good value too
  9. Anything by Mothers Finest maybe The apt 'Song for my Mother' Maze featuring Frankie Beverly Jimmy Ruffin's 'Mothers Love' or even Big Maybelle's 'My Mothers Eyes'
  10. Looks very like a Dutch one I sold in the early 80's when I got the US one always thought it was original 60's issue. Think I sold it for £5 or £6 back then
  11. Thanks Jaco, Dave and Boba Ged
  12. It's all about opinions I guess.
  13. I heard it went v cheap around £350 ish but don't hold me to that. Superb piece of tunage.
  14. Sold a couple of these for £20 each not that hard but really under-rated tune on an under-rated lable.
  15. What about the Brockington Chorale Ensamble, Light Lunch & Freeloader and Lane Relations cuts for Arctic? Though the Brockington Choral stuff is Gospel so not that odd.
  16. How well known is this one? Anyone know when it was recorded. It's Mike Hanks written and so its Mah's publishing and must be prior to August '66 but more accurate info would be appreeciated. TIA
  17. I bought a record of ebay and spotted the seller had one poor feedback for a record he sold, most of his stuff was baseball cards and the like. The bad feedback critisised how the record was packed. My record arrived safe and well in a 18" x 12" x 6" box, in side the box was a load of crushed newsprint packing, a wad of bubble wrap, inside which was the record with two pieces of cardboard either side wrapped around with duck tape. I think he had taken the feedback personally I paid $8 postage the box cost him $17 just to post I sent him the link to bagsunlimited
  18. I'm sure I'm not the only collector with multiple ebay IDs a couple of which are public knowledge I'm sure. Why do you need to know if its a dealer or another collector you're in competition with them if you want what they want anyway. Rivalino is a buyer working for a dealer but what difference does that make unless you are tracking what they bid on and trying to out bid them on stuff you didn't know or hadn't spotted. Most serious bidders be they dealers or collectors snipe things to avoid people tracking what they bid on anyway.
  19. Just posing this question reinforces the divisions in the scene. I love soul music, why people insist on pigeon holing every tune just so others can decide whether or not they like it before they hear it is beyond me. Mad I tell you, you're all mad
  20. Well thats two of us that like it Di I think you'll find that's dark blue but I'm sure Wallie appreciates the change
  21. Nuffin But the warm glow of knowing you've helped me out Fankoo
  22. Cheers Phil "Mr Oracle" Shields I knew it'd be known on here
  23. I'll try again after adding these into random threads by mistake. Anyone identify these for me.
  24. What about Ashton Town Hall when Malc Worsley ran it were they nighters? Not that long ago but memory is shot. The one off nighter at the Pavilion (on UCE's sports ground), Birmingham.
