  2. In some places you can't even get away with older stuff if the majority have never heard it out before let alone something that 'no one' as ever heard out before.
  3. There's few of live in Blackpool but I think you mean Ged Grenall of 'Nightshift' fame. Anyway he's a red not being born in Manchester . I only know of Gallopers because my dad ran it until in the late 60's until Aug '72.
  4. doh I was supposed to be avoiding posting on this thread
  5. It was called Gallopers or maybe still the Dolphin at that point
  6. Came out with two different flipsides Mr Slick or Sabre Olvidar. Mr Slick one came out first I think as this was the title track of their first LP from '68, The Meditation being the title track of their second from '69. TNT were Tito and Tony (Tito Ramos - Tony Rojas) who had up until then been part of Johhny Colons outfit also on Cotique. Original composition I think not related directly to any other tracks though a lot of boogaloo sounds similar
  7. I've done this in the past loved every minute of it. It took me over 12 months to go through 35,000. (I do have a job you know )
  8. I'm rarely on line at 2 o'clock any chance I could see it later
  9. You mean Bob Slater surely?
  10. He's confused on the Minnie Ripperton Jo Anne Garrett thing as Minnie Ripperton also released a track under the psuedonym Andrea Davis Chess 1980 - Andrea Davis : Lonely Girl / You Gave Me Soul (1967) Vocally very different from Joy Lovejoy though
  11. Not sure about 'A' listers on the scene but there are people who are like that in all walks of life. Always scanning the room to see if someone more influential or 'important' to them comes in and then they're off to talk to them. I see it all the time dealing with budding politicians who haven't yet realised the negative impact it has on their image, both from the one they ditch in favour of someone else but also from the one they then go and impose themselves upon. I only break of a conversation with someone when an old face not seen out and about for ages comes into a record bar with a battered old box of tat he thinks no one is interested in buying . Its rude but you have to be quick to beat Ian Cunliffe to the bargains
  12. I can remember my first job should have been £17.50 a week but I always ducked on a Monday following a heavy weekend. My boss called me to ask why I only ever worked 4 days a week so I told him "Its because I can't manage on three days pay" redundancy soon followed
  13. That's Paul Hughes. The Duracell Bunny. Can't knock his enthusiasm.
  14. Chris & Marcelle. This is a sad day for the scene but hopefully a new start for yourselves. I hope you can look forward to a much more relaxed time out and about in the knowledge your massive efforts were welcomed and above all respected.
  15. Just don't bow too low or for too long
  16. The 9 litre ones are really good but the 18 litre ones need you to put some card between the two rows of records or they are hard to sort through as they get interlinked. There good value all the same.
  17. sorry can't agree, I have stopped going to the local do's in this area because of this reason.Of course they're gonna tell you they're collectors......how many people want to say they are wanna be's. Definition of a wanna be play music off any old format, only go to the venues they set up and they're friends venues nearby as guest dj's,never go out as punters, cause not interested......I go out and about all the time and all the wanna be's from my area go NOWHERE unless someones daft enough to give em a dj spot. WHY DO YOU THINK THEY'RE CALLED WANNA BE'S. As far as the tunes played now,as compared to the wigan days of course they're up there because most of the shit gets filtered out, there are a few exceptions.......joe jamma being the worst that comes to mind. Mr Darcy, That's a sweeping generalisation that holds some truth. I know DJ's in both camps I personally am a collector but load many promotors near me want to play the sounds they like what ever format and generally stick to the tried and trusted. Whatsmore their venues are full. So who are we to critisise them they are enjoying the music and playing to other of a like mind. They are not part of the Rare Soul scene but more a Northern Nostalgia scene. The northern equiavalent of a tribute act if you like. Incidently there are DJ's at Every big venue (including Burnley) that are not collectors. I suspect we have a similar outlook on places we like but I would choose to live and let live where the others are concerned they don't do me any harm.
  18. You looking to sell the one you won on ebay about five years ago then Dan? I never forget being out sniped
  19. No there isn't but there should be I just missed it out.
  20. Keith if you can clear up the Arctic 'Brand New Start' question while you're there I'd appreciate it.
  21. Yeah Harry, Winfield did a lot on Ru Jac perhaps this was one due to have a Ru Jac release and was leased to Arctic? It's a bit of a strange one anyway. The demo of this is also two sided and Arctic's policy on Demos was a bit of a puzzler too some double sided same as the issue some with the 'A' side on both sides, some with the 'B' side pressed on the Demo but then ground off, some with a smooth flip to the demo and some with blank grooves on the flip. It's like they couldn't decide what was the best policy.
  22. That's the cheekiest and quickest 25% discount you'll ever get Mr Johnson.
  23. They ones who have met your boyfriends possibly
  24. Thou shalt not drink or smoke on the dancefloor
  25. Always trust Tim (Neely) over Jerry (Osbourne) IMO. Joe's right it 'A' Tom Jones not THE Tom Jones even JM Lists it under the same heading as THE Tom Jones from memory despite it clearly being a black guy.
