  1. There are a lot on here with the same point of view. If they don't like it it isn't northern it's RnB or it's pop or it's country, or it's rock and roll or cowboy music or by a white artist etc etc. So you don't like something, so what, get over it. Music is all about opinion that's what makes it so special
  2. These are the first ones I don't have
  3. Now I'm worried they do look like different type sets. I've had it about 6 years and I was more worried about it arriving when I won it as it took over six weeks to come from the states I'll have to compare the run outs next time I'm at Middleton to be sure. The more I look the more the others all look the same and the less mine does.
  4. Looks absolutely fine to me and this seller always delivers quickly too. Never seen another with a company sleeve though (I suspect they were put together long after release but still looks good.)
  5. Cue don't you mean queue. spelling is a minefield isn't it Paul
  6. Every one who got the e-mail should reply offering £800 so he gets the idea on price . Mind you one of us may then offer £805
  7. I'll listen at some point just can't when I'm in the office. I'm not really likely to buy a new release anyway and don't have an axe to grind by passing judgement one way or another. Those that want to listen can make their own mind up. I'll get round to it but its not a high priority for me.
  8. You can't get much more over produced than the KGF single "One Day" which is very messy but still brilliant. Mind you most of the Shrine stuff is over arranged too IMHO. Simple four or six track recordings are more akin to what we are used to from 60's recordings. I like the complex arrangements but they do need the odd off key note or drum beat thats a bit heavier or lighter than it should be to give them some human quality. That fact that they're not perfect is part of their appeal (to me at least). Ian's recording in the part have been if anything too polished for me but I guess thats how he made the transition to producing top pop acts.
  9. Yeah that's the thing I meant . I just can't spell (or is it cpell). I haven't even listened to the track so can't judge but I get the feeling Paul you'd made your mind up before you heard it anyway
  10. The mind is like a parashute - works best when its open
  11. You can play what you like as long as the promotor is OK with it he's employing you. Peoples own perspective will dictate whether or not they respect you for it. Calling them an idiot won't help. I have moderated my views on this somewhat over the years. I want to be true to myself. You be true to yourself do what you believe is right and I hope the punter like it. I also hope that enough material keeps being found to keep the scene alive because if anyone can play anything on any format the feeling I had this weekend of the hairs on the back of my neck standing up when hearing Mello Souls, Hank Hodge, Eddie Billups etc at Prestatyn will be gone forever and they'll all become as mundane and run of the mill as Frank Wilson. If you can't see that, I question your definition of an idiot.
  12. You obviously feel strongly about this as it is your first first post in over 12 months as a member. I haven't bought a pack, nor do I have any reason to support Ian but seeing a whole list would be much more useful. The ones you have listed may well be worth £20 though IMHO, as long as you weren't expecting 300 'northern' records.
  13. It was about five years ago now and yes I had a shipping agent help me out with the paperwork which was about as complicated a form as I've seen from a government agency and thats saying something. I had already had 101 out of 111 boxes delivered when they held up the last consignment and I did think about sending the last 10 boxes back. There were between 3 and 4 hundred 45's in each box and I'd already had some fantastic finds so weighed it up and paid my dues. It would have been cheapest if I'd set up a partnership with the person I bought the collection off with a view to trading the records in which case we would have just been moving business stock between premesis in different countries. Trust me I looked in to all options.
  14. Try almost £3,000 . What got me was them charging me tax on the postage charges and VAT on the import duty. Mind you the whole lot was still a bargain
  15. Hi Jason, Some very good content as usual thanks for sharing them with us. I haven't found any of those wants you sent me btw I'll keep looking though. Ged
  16. This may well be your view John but you have made many false assumptions and a few too many sweeping generalistions. Is soul music what it was in the 60's. No it isn't but Rock and Roll is'nt what it was in the 50's music is always of its time. Your assertions on the nature of 'Northern Soul' are pertinent only in so much as they highlight the divide between the people who still see it as the scene it was in the 70's and those who seek to keep it moving forward. Please don't tar us all with the same brush, as has been said some of us find that insulting. Welcome aboard btw
  17. One for at home IMO nice enough though
  18. It would be great to hear them. I'm sure you'll get someone willing to get the tracks out there for you a snipet of each on refo-soul would be a marvelous taster.
  19. Some crackers there Andy. Should be able to do an A-Z just from that list.
  20. Ann Sexton Bobby Hutton Carstairs Doni Burdick Ella Weez Felix Cavalier Gil Scott Heron Herbie Mann Well thats a start I think
  21. Hi Paul, Just wanted to echo what so many have said so far on here its a pleasure to see you as a member and great to have your contributions. Are you still in touch with Terry Tate? "Count on My Love" is one of my all time favourite tracks do any material from those sessions not make it to the album? Questions so many questions. I'll not bombard you as plenty of others will be picking your brains I'm sure. Ged
  22. Some of us have had dealers all over Texas looking for it for years
  23. Not sure about you Paul but I can't afford to buy records I don't like there's too many that I do like.
  24. And some like some black soul music and some white pop but not other black soul or white pop. I like what I like no matter what pigeon hole someone puts it in. (Mind you doesn't mean I'd play everything I liked at a soul do )
  25. I'm amazed how many times sellers accidently miss off the decimal point when putting the value on the customs form . After all who would pay $750 for an old record its not gold you know clearly it's meant to be $7.50 anyone can see that.
