  1. Much Lower Price and Just as Much Quality
  2. Cheers Pete, It got 'em asking questions at Morecambe last Sat too. It came out on two labels apparently but I've only ever seen one of each. Looking forward to listening to some more contributions on the long drive to Cornwall this weekend. Ged PS. Sean - I'll try and get another done before I head off on Holiday and post asap.
  3. Alan, Any chance of PMing a list of real names and soul-source ID's it isn't always obvious. I know some but not all and be nice to acknowledge the work that's gone in to them. Ged
  4. What - Judy Street is probably up there. I think it was voted top ever northern tune in Black Echoes at one point.
  5. Dean Courtney - (love) You Just Can't Walk Away - MGM
  6. Just ask if any of the 60's US tunes that get played in the 'main' room had charted which chart would they have been in? Say's it all really.
  7. Luckily its not about cost Alan the best two tracks IMHO are the Donnie Wells and the Little Sherman and I paid less than $10 for each of them. I'd have paid much more but didn't need to there's loads of em about.
  8. I love this tune and loads of tunes like it. It isn't 'Northern' IMHO opinion but so so soulful. Another in the same vein is Garnett Mimms - "It Was Easier To Hurt Her" which I love as an ender.
  9. Mine should go in the post tomorrow. 32 tracks and over a third of which you won't find in the price guides (must be sh!t ) A real mixture of styles and eras from me but they are reflective of my last 12 months purchases so that's my excuse. Anyway hope at least a couple are of interest.
  10. I think it's like the 60's RCA things much more common on a demo.
  11. John I don't think anyone is pre-authorised on this one you have to have bid (on this auction presumably) before 24th.
  12. It'd be worth paying £28k + to keep Ian away. You know what he can be like when he gets sniff of you having a record he wants
  13. You'd have take security into account though Dave so you wouldn't travel direct by the shortest route. After all those pirates seem to be getting everywhere. Maybe Ian could go via Tahiti just to throw them off the scent.
  14. Batches IMHO. Not only would it take too long individually bit also the residue is often flattened as if when warm it was still up close to another 45. Also if they were done individaully you would not get the occassional one with the DH in the run out which probably happened due to that one copy being out of allignment with the others being 'drilled'
  15. If they are vertical all the pressure is in the edge and only the wieght of the 45 is on the edge. If you store them horizontaly with no weight on top and away from heat they should stay flat too but they'd take up a hell of a lot of room
  16. Sebastian means the 45 is under stress of pressure. For example if it is stored leaning with a lot of other 45's against it this causes stress and bends the vinyl over time this warp becomes 'permanent'. The DH or BB hole is done by distributors to denote the records are not on sale or return as many records were in the 60's. With LP's they either drill a hole in the corner of the cover, place a saw cut there or cut off the corner of the cover. This is where the term cut out comes from. Never heard the theory about hanging them to stop warping but I guess if you wanted to do tht you'd just use the centre hole surely?
  17. Not Soul and Not just a line but this lyric is fantastic. When you are old and tired and gray Wear your overcoat on a sunny day When your brave tales have all been told I'll ask for them when you are old When you are old and full of sleep And death no longer makes you weep When your body aches due to the cold I'll warm your heart when you are old You still will be the same to me A comfort and a mystery And I will be old too you see I'll need someone to comfort me When you are old and pale and gaunt A gentle hand is all you want I will give you mine to hold Because I'll be here when you are old If Gretchen Peters vocal on this doesn't make you cry you've got a cold cold heart my friend https://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...videoid=3125026 OK Webby - Gretchen Peters - When you Are Old....
  18. The deflated exchange rate they charge is generally another way they make money when tranfering between different currency's. I dislike this more than the fee. Its just like the banks do if you use your credit card abroad. The rate is always worse than going in an buying the other currency over the counter. Mind you they do have those big bonuses to pay.
  19. What happened to round 2? My point wasn't about people having an opinion it was the use of labels by many on here as a way of justifying why they don't like a particular record and a subtle way of deriding those that do like it. I realise you haven't done this in this thread but it happens. As it happens I don't buy records I don't like but I don't dismiss them either (or for that matter the people that like them). This scene can just be so negative sometimes. If you don't like something fine what you telling me for? I'd rather know what you do like and hopefully you can open my ears to something new and interesting I didn't know before. This forum is great at doing that. Just an opinion
  20. As you would expect Andy is right its the Devonnes. I don't think its commercially available as a pic but sometimes publicity shots such as this are on ebay. That could be worth looking at; maybe even email some of the regular dealers of such memorabilia through ebay. Where did you get the pic? Isn't that a good start point? Ged
  21. Thanks John, James' memory is a little sketchy and his spelling isn't the best. Is Kool an LA label? Maybe I've read his email wrong though he did spell it Cool and he doesn't use capital letters. Mind you given the people he's worked with over the years we should forgive him for a little confussion. What about "Hole In The Wall" / "I Saw Batman" on Show Me have you ever come accross this one? Ged
  22. You lot are always my first port of call when I need problem solving and once again I call upon your collective wisdom. I'm looking for info on a recording by the Derbys on La Cool - Early Grave / Going Back to Houston. Also by the Derbys on Show Me - I Saw Batman / ????????????? (Given the passage of time I think there may be some confussion and this could be credited to the Carpets as with Show Me 1218 Keep Pushing On. The Carpets and the Derbys were the same group) I'm in contact with one of the group members whose memory is a little sketchy but he mentioned these recordings but I didn't know they existed 'til now. I'd love to send him MP3's but any info you have would be great. Thanks in advance Ged
  23. I'm a Big Man - Big Daddy Rogers
  24. How's this for lyrical perfection: If I counted all the times, I sat at home and cried, I'd be counting for the next hundred years. And if I multiplied, all the times you lied, I'd be drowning in my own tears. Just superb IMHO
