  1. I was offered over that (probably by the same guy; well his wife actually). In terms of it being hammered when it was at it's height I was playing it to people that had never heard it before . Some people go to the same places to hear the same tunes all the time. Needless to say it wasn't their cup of tea.
  2. Well it is a La Beat recording. Doesn't say "La Beat Release" It's like John Manship's interpretation of which of the mixes of Emanual Laskey's - Don't Lead Me On Baby is the first issue. I think he has them the wrong way round but there's no way to ever know for sure. In terms of multiples assuming you mean just the La Beat stuff I have a couple of James Shorters (LB6604) and as many as you like of the Masqueraders (LB6605)
  3. I think that's them all. Is the jury not still out on which was actually released first?

  5. I had a 45 from the US once and it was packed in a cut down LP sleeve. I was horrified to see she'd cut up the cover of the rare funk Soul Expedition LP. When I contacted her to see if she still had the LP, she'd used it as packing on another LP she'd sold but helpfully said "you wouldn't have liked it; it was terrible"
  6. Walking the street of Wigan on the 5th anniversary with a ticket in one had and a girlfriend without one in the other. Being given a ticket outside at about half two The raffle being drawn and finding my girlfriends mate still had her full ticket because no one had ripped it in half when she came in She can't have annoyed me that much I ended up marrying her
  7. Clearly you feel strongly about this Simon but don't expect promotors to rush to register their policy. The totally unscientific vote is overwhelmingly against kids being allowed at nighters but I'm wondering how many people voted that never go to nighters anyway? If promotors took such votes seriously we may be in danger of every nighter being the same after all if weight of numbers is anything to go off Kev Roberts has the perfect recipe. I'm glad there is a range of different events, venues, promotors, DJs, music policies and would hate it if they were all the same. The scene needs variety. Are you really saying "If you let him / her in I'm not coming"? Afterall its very rarely more than two.
  8. For the record I voted no. I wouldn't have taken mine at any age. An all-nighter can be a warm friendly place, full of friendly banter and no where near a bad as many town centres on a Sat night. However it can on occassion be very different and things can and do go on that I wouldn't want my three kids seeing even now and the youngest is married and in her own home. What I would say is if you choose to take them then don't moan about what they are exposed to or expect people to change to accomodate them or expect others to think its acceptable just because you do. Their presence wouldn't put me off going but you'll never persuade me it's either good for them or appropriate parenting but they are your kids not mine.
  9. I've played it out but not for a while. Note sure about it being "not a rare tune"? When did you see one for sale last?
  10. I caught the end of a Diana Ross live version on the radio last year. Must be on a comp CD I guess maybe the Japanese unearthing unreleased stuff again. It was pretty good but prefer the album version.
  11. Apparently not in your house its not. Nice item all the same.
  12. I always reply to threads, or lists for that matter, with "I'll take x,y and z if they're still available. If so send me a total for paypal inc postage to the UK" They reply and I send payment. If I can't afford it I'd rather not know its still available calling me to come and buy it like some siren voice.
  13. I understand the frustration here Adam and know I've never caused anyone any issues, mainly because I think hard and long about any substantial purchase. It has cost me long searched for want in the past that it turned out I could have afforded and should have commited to straight away. I'd rather be that kind of buyer than ever let anyone down. Having said all that your post does remind me of an old guy called Sid. He ran the Inglenook pub in Toxteth for me many moons ago and often used to say "this job would be perfect if it wasn't for the customers" Keep your chin up and don't let the few people with a lack of ability to communicate get you down.
  14. Don't say that! I'm staving now
  15. /\ /\ /\ /\ In a nutshell!
  16. It's an interesting one thats for sure. Thanks for the clarification. Maybe I should start a thread asking if it's within the 'rules' to play it.
  17. Hi Darren, I'm confussed not that that is anything new The ad for the Kenny Wells says its laquered but not a dubplate and that it has a dip towards the center of the disc? Is it not a metal core acetate then? You also say its not a carver but its not pressed? It sounds like nothing I've ever heard of before. Not trying to p1ss on your auction just confused. Cheers Ged
  18. Remind me agian who started this f**king thread?
  19. Original is original and OVO is the top of the particular heirarchy I set out so as there is nothing above it there can't be any thing in between it and anything else. If you don't get it by now no one is going to be able to tell you.
  20. You can call yourself a legitimate DJ if you play either as they are both legal releases. Most venues wouldn't care. Most of the OVO venues would be more concerned that you'd played it at all I suspect. Luckily I have it on Impel anyway
  21. Steve, There's others more qualified than me on this on this forum but I think as long as you are within exceptions to the copywrite owners rights over the material, which allow you to make a copy for insurance against the permanent loss or irrevokable damage of the originaly purchased item, AND you pay the relevant PPL licensing you can play it in public which it different from broadcasting. Afterall if you copied an MP3 you had downloaded then copied it so you had a stored copy should your hard drive decide to pack up. The law isn't concerned if its the original MP3 or the copy you play (it couldn't tell the difference which is why the law was framed not to discriminate between the two) only that the copywrite owners rights are recognised. So having that rare item at home and playing a carver is 'legitimate' in the eyes of the law if not the ears of some of the soul scene. Ged
  22. I think they're what's known as 'driving tunes' lol
  23. Were not discussing just 'anyone' here though are we Pete (or downloads really for that matter). This is about DJ's. My point was that if you're serious about being a legitimate DJ then you either do it legitimately or you don't. Its up to the topic starter to decide which he wants to be not us as you've already pointed out more than once. See here for reason why
  24. I think the soul tunes are all fair game and no one should say you shouldn't like them but even I know those two tunes should be way outside the scope of what I should like. I think I'm beyond counselling Sian. Did you see my post on temporary events notices in FB btw?
  25. Since you've been gone - Rainbow Rio - Duran Duran
