  1. I wasn't going to post this (and this may be in the wrong section anyway so mods feel free to move it) but it would be interesting to know peoples views. Let's say a record is put up on here for offers over £X and that there is a closing time for offers to be made. Just before the 'closing time' two potential bidders email to ask what the current high bid is. Firstly should the seller disclose what the high bid is? It's a bit of a mute point now but interested in opinions. Anyway lets say he does and its £X + 75 one of the potential bidders comes back with an offer of £X + 85 before the closing time and the other with a bid of £X + 100 well after the closing time. Of course neither bidder knows about the others bid and the seller could just take the £X +100 bid. Should he also let the previous high bidder know when they've been 'outbid' ? But should he? Should a closing time be a firm deadline? What about if after the seller has accepted one offer and agreed a timeframe for the buyer to pay (In the process pissing off the other bidders) the accepted bidder then doesn't pay or contact the seller to explain why they haven't. Obviously all the people involved will know who they are but I've tried to keep this 'theoretical' to save embarrasment or indeed their partners reading what they spend on records lol. I'm not going to get all riled about it - these things happen but in trying to be straight with people I've upset others and that wasn't what I intended to do. I just wanted to sell a record. These a lot to be said for getting John Manship to auction records for you
  2. Sold mine a few years ago for £500. Kit said I'd regret at the time and I have ever since but couldn't bring myself to re-buy when theres so many other tunes I've never had.
  3. I set my snipe when it was at its $99.00 starting price but knew it would get spotted. I've known about it since the mid 80's when I had a 1 minute or so clip on a sales tape. I can't remember what it was priced at but I thought it was too expensive probably $20 Never heard it out but it is 'known' I'm sure.
  4. Sadly its also in the ads to the right of his post so everyone will know about it now. Just off to cancel my now even more pointless snipe
  5. The thread is here Charlie mate. John is on here as SpaghettiWeston Ged
  6. Try John Weston he had one for sale recently.
  7. Sold Sold Sold Sorry This one needs little introduction from me save to say that I have attached a full MP3 from the 45 and a label scan to illustrate the top class condition of this record. You will truly never find a copy in better condition than this. I'll consider offers over £500 on this via email to gparker@nussl.co.uk and payment will be by paypal or cheque drawn on a UK bank. I'll keep this up until Wednesday 29th September at 8:00 pm. Postage £1.20 regular or £5.00 special delivery. You never know one of you may have missed out on the one on Tim Brown's auction by then. Thanks for looking Ged SyHightower_IKnowYou'reLeavingMe_CarmenDemo.mp3 SyHightower_IKnowYou'reLeavingMe_CarmenDemo.mp3
  8. Only Al Williams and James Shorter - Modern Day Woman were issued as WDJ I believe. Ged
  9. Wilton has a habit of reactivating these long forgotten tunes, much to its credit. It was around the same time Martyn. They were spinning The Athens Rogues too about then I seem to remember. Im over at Hull Uni next month where are the secret record shops I should be hitting :)
  10. Truly is a great sound. The crossover flip "What's the Use" is also worth a spin in the right venue. I can remember spining it as a request at Bury "Whats the Use" that is not Look at Me. When it was requested I thought "wow they've become much more expansive in what they'll listen too here" trouble was the guy that requested it was the only one dancing. As so many of these tunes are it was a Stafford play - well thats where I first heard it anyway.
  11. Discuss away Pete. I just think this website is not the only culprit in terms of high prices. John Manship writes a guide and then sometimes prices higher just weeks after it has come out. Craig Moerer BIN items on ebay that have been listed and listed and listed without selling. I was just saying its unfair to single out this one site though I can understand why it has raised some eyebrows (not for the first time either). I have no connection with the site or its owners but for me its "buyer know thy stuff".
  12. Maybe that's why its still there? Don't think we should turn this into a critique of the prices on a single website to be fair. If it sells its the right price for someone.
  13. The description as a 'second issue' makes it sound legit and if the ill-informed were in any doubt about it being a legit release they would probably think well it £150 it can't be a bootleg can it. It like the supermarkets doing offers of 3 for £5 and having the same product somewhere else in the store at £1.60 each. Price is a surrogate indicator of quality / value and marketing people know this. A fool and their money are easily parted, just as it's always been.
  14. Thanks for the replies guys, Hopefully sorted now with a kind offer of help from Philippe Philippe - you're gent sir and John thanks for the cheery tale of the woes of dealing with Belgians; it really brightened up my day. Ged
  15. Not sure where to ask this question so mods move this if it should be elsewhere. I've won an ebay item from a seller in France and now I see he only ships within France. Any chance someone can accept it and post it on? Just PM me if you can help. Cheers Ged
  16. Cheers Dave / Jaco, Just the ticket
  17. Can't be a long one this any one able to post one? Cheers Ged
  18. It was covered as "The Bob Segar Sound System" to be precise. and it was and still is a rock tune
  19. Cordells - You Do A Thing To My Mind
  20. People make that accusation when they get something they don't want / expect from a DJ. There can only be two possible reasons for this 1) the promotor booked the wrong DJ or 2) the punter's at the wrong venue.
  21. Dean Courtney -I'll always need you The lyrics are superb.
  22. Catalogue number isn't missing, look again. They both look the part to me but for such a rare promo to have been pressed in two different plants thats the puzzler.
  23. I don't know better Paul may well be right but this is a picture reportedly of Lou Beaty (on the right) and Johnny Mills rehearsing with the Masqueraders. I can't remember where I copied it from though. Clearly on this pic Johnny is laying down vocals but that doesn't mean he wasn't also a drummer.
  24. Can't believe no one has said Arctic yet. What about Mello
  25. You sure Paul? I thought Johnny Mills was one of the Masqueraders and a vocalists rather than a drummer? I know the LPTs did backing for loads of Lou Beaty's detroit lables and the line up changed often. Didn't they also do the backing for 'Baby Don't You Weep'?
