  1. To answer this properly you have to agree what is a) a new tune, b) what is impact and c) what is influence. Joan has already made the point very well on what is 'new' The case could be made that whatever Eddie Edmundson chooses to 'break' at 'Soul In The Sun' has an instant impact / influence in terms of audience not only as some of them DJ at local dos but also as they are punters all over the country and so both seek and play these tunes everywhere. In one sense that makes him the most influential DJ today. I sense that isn't where the question was aimed and would find it hard personally to waver from the Andy Dyson, Butch and Sam Sam trio. But most of us are at least trying to find the next big thing aren't we? I can't pay thousands or even the high hundreds for records really but finding a bargain usually means finding stuff few people are looking for or even know. As hard as that is; its simple compared to getting it exposed to the right audience with enough frequency to get the actual record the credit it deserves whether its a total unknown or just one thats been forgotten by most. I'm sure most of us want the record to be appreciated and have impact in its own right rather than to bask in the reflected glory of the artists that did the work.
  2. This is no help but you sir have superb taste And no it's not for sale Used to spin this in the Neighbourhood's Rare room at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. May even take it and see how it fits with the dancers on Saturday night.
  3. Anyone want mine for £19,500?
  4. Ted Massey and Andy Rix?
  5. Eddie took up a contract from Jet Set to do some production / writing work as a means to fund the ongoing work at Shrine. This funded production runs of 2000+ presses of the remaining output.
  6. Phil Treefella should be able to do you one Sharron. Unless thats another he kept for 5 minutes and then sold lol
  7. ............or tell them "Go to youtube and search for Eddie Parker -I'm Gone"
  8. 10 words - "If you don't know, nobody in this world can explain"
  9. He is going Steve he's DJing so he has to go.
  10. It's a broad church Rod.
  11. No suprise the seller in Belgian, they have their own definition (or at least idea) of 'Northern' I think.
  12. Somewhere (though God know's where) I have a copy of Joey Heatherton's WYCMB with all the venues I'd been to at that point ('78 ish) written on the sleeve. It was in the high 20's then and I'd only been on the scene a couple of years.
  13. any chance of a sound clip or two? Needn't be the whole track(s) Otherwise I'll raise Keith's 10p to 11p.
  14. one of those shiver down the spine moments. I had my media player on random and "Hate Myself in The Morning" came on just as I opened this thread. Sad sad news but as has already been said given his recent failing health this is probably a blessing for Clyde. God's speed
  15. Arctic Demos
  16. Collecting labels as Dave has said is neigh on impossible now particularly for the big labels. You have to be prepared to buy something even when you know you don't like it and to pay a price that will stop you buying something you do like. I'd think very carefully before starting something that may be impossible to finish. As a collector there's nothing more frustrating.
  17. Are you people saying your tastes have changed, the records mentioned are suddenly bad or that they are just not to be considered 'proper northern' anymore? I like all the records I've ever bought (except some that came in bulk lots) not sure I'd play them all out, but if they were good records when I bought them they're good records now (Including many of the ones listed here )
  18. There's never been a place like the Casino for atmosphere in my mind anyway. The uniformity of the clapping said a lot about how you could feel part of something big. Looking back the quality of the music was patchey at times but how we define quality changes over time and what each of us thinks is 'quality' will be different anyway. Dodgy records will always be a part of any scene where rarity is valued, because some people just get it wrong thats all - Joey Delorenzo anybody? If I could have one night back though It'd be at Stafford with what (little bit) I know now and a current months wages in my pocket. Did soul die when Wigan opened? - Not a bit of it.
  19. Perfect answer. I'd just add that there will be something in the conditions attached to premises licence that give specifics and if there isn't then you don't even need registered door staff. That is assuming that the event is of a type that is noted as "licensed" on the premises licence.
  20. The organisation is just an illusion John, I've almost no idea where anything is. (except the boxed stuff). Anyway I bet you're still unpacking aren't ya.
  21. The 1972 on the 3024 is the publication date not the release date I believe.
  22. Here's mine which is a work in progress, but essentially full so the rest are in wardrobes, loft space, under beds etc. At least they're all in the house now.
  23. James Dockery - My Faith In You Has All Gone - Soul Craft. That's gotta be tough.
  24. I used to have loads from when I had my own 45's in my pubs juke box back in the early 80's. The company we rented the juke box from printed them up with the details I gave them. Not really original I know but at least the record were. Don't know what happened to them but after several moves around the country they're probably in some landfill by now.
  25. Some thought prevoking stuff guys thanks for your views. For the record (excuse the pun) I offered it to the person who offered £X + 85 just before the advertised closing time. This was much to the annoyance of the person who offered me £X + 100 but IMHO too late. I also had a small debate with the person who had offered me £X + 75 saying they should have been told they were 'outbid'. I hadn't anticipated they would want to offer more as they had made an offer not a 'bid' as far as I saw it. The last thing I wanted was to spend a lot of time bartering or playing people off against one another. As has been said I set a reserve and sold it to the person that made the best offer above the reserve before the set deadline. I think that was the fairest thing to do but I'll be placing a load of explanitory notes if I ever put up a record for offers on here again. As I say there a lot to be said for giving John Manship his cut and removing all the hassle.
