  1. Just pipped at the post by the Nina Simone version for me. TSU Toronadoes - Got to Get Through To You does it for me and Four Chaps - True Lovers
  2. You'd probably get £300+ on ebay even for a noisy copy I'd bet. If it was a decent playable copy on an issue probably three or four times that. Perhaps you (We) shouldn't have hijacked this thread though.
  3. I have a minter just make me an offer.
  4. Shock news just in............................................ Some people are two-faced, some promotors use any means possible to promote their event and some people don't like critisism. Not exactly a "hold the front page" situation. All part of life not just this scene.
  5. Sellers have to accept the loss I'm affraid. I sold a record through ebay earlier this year. The winning bidder was a member on here and listed it for sale at more that double what he paid me for it. Thems the breaks. You just gotta take it on the chin and move on.
  6. People asking for offers often don't do themselves any favours. Comments like "we all know what it worth so no silly offers" don't help. If "we all know what its worth" sell it set sale and who knows what a silly offer is anyhow? You can always reject it. Its the not coming back thats most annoying though, its just polite to let the other end of a potential deal know what's what. I've responded to two wants in that last few days one "wantee" replied letting me know he wanted one in better condition than the one I had to offer but the other didn't say anything at all (grated he may have been at work but he posted the want in work time). I can however understand someone being willing to let something go cheap now but want "full price" at some point in the future. If I'm watching an auction that finishes in two days and I want the funds to pay for it the "full value" of something I have for sale less £30 now might work well for me but in a couple of weeks may be no use in helping me get the record I want at auction. It may be about putting on the sales pressure but it also could be that the seller is willing to let something go cheap to fund a want but not at other times. Earlier this year I put a record up for offers and kept everyone who made offers informed of what the top bid was I had a end time for offers and even turned down a better offer because it came in after the 'end time'. The person making that late offer was annoyed with me and I started a thread about it at the time but I'd put an end time and although it 'cost' me money and the other people who made offers would never have known; I'd have known. You've just got to be straight with people when buying or selling, set sale or offers just be straight and treat people right.
  7. Freeman for me I'd say
  8. Don't be giving me the "" people will start having me down as an oldies DJ
  9. I plead guity to having been asked that on more that one occassion. I'm not a guy with a box full of unknown acetates and cover ups btw and anyhow how the hell are you supposed to know what punters know and what they don't know and still keep the content fresh, especially when they tell you they want "stuff that used to played at events up and down the country". That's mostly what I play.
  10. Stick to your guns Vince. Take it up with ebay if he pulls out of the deal
  11. Mark is one of the best examples of an oldies DJ searching for particular sounds. I think he'll tell you he hears most of them for the first time off tapes rather than remembering them from first time around. He then tracks them down and fits them into his set.
  12. What tunes and what events regularly up and down the country? Do you not think that DJ's at venues up and down the land this very minute are hoping to rediscover that long forgotten tune that sets the dancefloor alight? I think you've fallen into the trap of thinking that forgotten oldies are the ones you liked back in the day (Whenever that was for you, but only when it was for you not the forgotten 'oldie' for me that is unknown to you). It not uncommon to be asked "can you play some oldies mate?" I'm too polite to say "these are oldies even if you don't know em"
  13. That's the daftest idea I heard in a long time I'm sorry to say. Over 95% of what gets played at even the majority of R&U venues are oldies. They may not be the oldies from when you may have been a regular on the scene in many cases but they're oldies just the same.
  14. I was sure it was the Delacardos. Mind you if you used the mike once in while you'd have been able to tell us it was the Lee Tilman version Must these ears syringed
  15. Sold my Altantic Demo when I got the Q City one. It did take me about 8 years of looking on and off though.
  16. As both a DJ and a punter you should remember one thing, to paraphrase Sheila Tobias "There's a difference between not dancing to a tune and not dancing to a tune yet"
  17. Couldn't agree more. When you see the cost of many of the tunes played picking this one out shows its not all about the cost. Mind you was it on Atlantic or Q City . Whichever its still a relatively affordable record but seldom heard and top top class for me.
  18. To quote someone SOE just click this button ffs.
  19. As far as I now March will still go on. I presume you know about the September Event at Potins in Southport? The venue feels very much like Prestatyn with the same arcades, Queen Vic pub etc but my accomodation at least at last Lancs Alliance Scooter Weekender was better than Prestratyn The big room (the only one for the September weekend) is a better one than Prestayn I'd say. All the details are at Southport Soul Weekender I think it'll be a great weekend; different from Prestatyn; but still great.
  20. If I have a record with me (and the request hasn't come when I have my last record cued up) I'll play it for them. I think we're all like that aren't we? I've never had a copy of Barbara and Brenda and I don't think the Sweet Three has ever been in my play box so I'be apologising on both counts but if I were to be coming back to the same venue I'd have the Sweet Three in my box next time. You may feel you're being fobbed off but as I say even in a 300 box you can't have everything and many DJ's wont even take that many for a 1 hour set. (Oh and just as an aside I don't even know your name so I'd rather you didn't refer to me as pal I find it a bit condescending. )
  21. Almost exactly right. And a 'Top Norther Soul DJ' in one venue is not in another. I'd only disagree about being armed for all events, who the promoter is will give you most of what you need to know about the venue I'd suggest even if you've never been to it before. If not you need to do some homework before you go.
  22. But by your reconing your not doing your job as a DJ if I ask for something and you refuse to play it. You see that's where your stance falls down. With a play box of say 300 singles you'll never be able to have everything with you. You should try and fill the box with sounds appropriate for the venue but you can't have them all. If its fine to say "its a brill oldie mate,i dont have a boot of it ok" why is it not OK to say "Sorry mate I'd play it if I had it but I just don't have a copy"? Your logic isn't making any sense to me at least.
  23. So if you're asked to DJ and I come up and ask for The Mello Souls what would you do?
