Buyer Warning - Kevin Jones Chicago Based
Kevin Jones replied to Glynthornhill's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Glyn, Had me panicking for a moment. Glad you put Kevin Jones - Chicago. Please would you re-mention that you did not mean Kevin Jones from Wrexham. I buy and sell on Soul Source quite a bit and anybody who knows me will tell you I am 100% honest. I know it does explain everything in your posting, it is just that the title that may give a false impression. Hope you did'nt mind me getting in touch. Many thanks. Kev Jones -
David Ruffin must be turning in his grave, god rest him. It seems everyone wants to get on the Motown bandwagon. Michael Bolton has just released an album of all Motown cover versions titled Hitsville (I think). The thing IMO is that you can not re-create or better these Motown originals. What will be next, suggestions please. Kev

Hi Tony, Does this help. It is General Johnson that you want and not COB. Regards Kev https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENERAL-JOHNSON-Bless-Your-Heart-Surfside-Limited-Edition-45-/111248632635?pt=UK_Records&hash=item19e6ef6b3b

October 17th sees the fifth anniversary of the passing of Levi Stubbs. Not an anniversary to celebrate but just to make one think how time passes so quickly. For me, he was without doubt the greatest singer. I know everyone has a personal favourite, well he was mine. When you read, hear or talk to people who new Levi, they all say the same. He was a true proffessional, he was a man of dignity and he never claimed the limelight for himself, it always was as the song title went " The Four Of Us " I was due to meet him shortly before he pased away, but on the day he was really poorly so with respect things never materialised. Whatever the mood may be, put on a Four Tops record and that mood will certainly go up to another level. I will be playing a special tribute to Levi Stubbs/Four Tops at Broughton Wings in Chester on October 19th and just remembering what great songs that he gave us. I would love to know some of your favourites. Here are my Top Six Ask The Lonely Don't Tell Me That It's Over Baby I Need Your Loving Still Water Right On Brother I Believe In You And Me Kev Jones

Uncommon Early 70's Uk Motown Compilation Album ?
Kevin Jones replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Look At Your Box
I believe that it was Gordon Frewin who was the Tamla Motown UK at manager in the early 70s who had access to a lot of the mastertapes before Motown fell a little bit out of the publics interest. Many of the MFP albums which were put together were influenced by Gordon. As most people are aware, some of those LPs had lots of unissued tracks even back then in the early 70s ( It's growing - The Contours for example ). Whether he was totally responsible for this particular one, that I am not sure. Kev Jones -
Shirley Wahls On T.v Add (Simply Be)
Kevin Jones replied to Soulhawk1960's topic in All About the SOUL
Does any kind person know the theme music to the current Simply Be TV advert. The title line seems to be " That's How Strong My Love Is " It is a male and female duo. Many thanks in advance. Kev -
Roburt, Extremely well written and touchingly put and I echo every sentiment. The Dells have been quality through and through. It seems that more sad days are on the horizon. Give "The Dells" A Standing Ovation, they truly deserve it. Kev

Frank Wilson On The Chris Evans Show
Kevin Jones replied to Kevin Jones's topic in All About the SOUL
It did'nt excite me, it was just an observation and a comment. That's all. -
On the Chris Evans show this morning on Radio 2 at 7.15, the This Day In History segment presented by Kate Humble featuring the details about the Frank Wilson auction and what it raised. Nice to see Motown featured once again on Radio 2. Kev

Having read most of the postings all I can add is this. Having ran Motown and Soul nights for 16 years, I have experienced nights I have organised being hi-jacked by so called charity nights only to find it is for the local football clubs. The clash did have an impact on the night organised but hey-ho such is life. During the 16 years I have probably organised about 10 charity nights. These have benefited Cystic Fibrosis, Cancer Research, Childrens Hospital Ward and the Childrens Hospice (three times) The genorosity of soul people is truly wonderful. I took no money for expenses, all DJs would not take a penny and yes The Snake was probably played. I am quite confident that each night was a success. The receipt from each charity was always displayed with a letter of thanks at the following soul night. But above all, the feeling of reward and achievement when you hand over that cheque is really priceless. The words, oh by the grace of god, do really make you think ! Kev

I have paid duty and Post Office charges a few times in the past, but received a record package today declared at $7. That is what I paid at a Buy It Now price and that is what was declared. On the packet was a yellow sticker stating Customs Examination, which said the packet had been opened, examined and resealed. Just wondering if many more people out there in the soulful UK have experienced similar. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the practice, just never come across it before. Kev

Following on from the post by Pottsy. I came back in October from a fly/drive through California. Picked up a few things but nothing rare. I had found out that there was a record show in Buena Park over the weekend we were there and promising to lavish gifts on my wife I was given a passout to go. It was literally half a mile from the hotel and I was told they start selling at 5.30 am in the car park. Leaving my good lady tucked up in bed and setting out 5.30 I arrived to find loads of sellers and buyers busy buying and selling. Picked up some nice LPs at a few dollars each. At 7.00 am everyone moved into the hall. My heart was pumping when you actually saw how many records were on offer, but this was a mix of all sorts. As I walked around the hall I think I counted about 15 John Manship record guides, my heart sunk, no bargains here today for me then. One dealer had a few nice northern 45s but when I looked they were twice the price of anyone who sells them in the UK. The dealer asked if I was interested and I politely said that I could get them for half the price in the UK. " Well go buy them in the UK then " was his answer. Like Ian said, they are still out there somewhere, but try finding them. My only saving grace was that after waiting nearly 2 hours walking past a stall which was covered over with sheets I ask the next stall holder where the seller was. He said, " he would be around here in about 10 to 15 minutes, and anyway there is only boxes and boxes of 45s of that soul rubbish " Bingo ! nothing rare but lots of nice goodies. Kev Jones
