Your Favorite Lead By- Paul Williams- The Temptations?
Kevin Jones replied to Gotsoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Hey Girl from the LP. The Temptations cover of the Freddie Scott classic on Colpix. Paul Williams just oozes soul on this. -
His contribution to The Motown Sound was incredible. So much hard work that he put in and so much research. It was very much appreciated. R.I.P Keith and condolences to Keith's family.

Hi Mal, I went into a record shop in Toronto and what started as a worst experience turned out to be a great experience. The shop was full of all genres of albums, all very nice but all way overpriced. I asked if there were any singles/45s and the guy said in the basement. I went down there and I found boxes and boxes of unplayed records. After about 2 hours of The Partridge Family, Perry Como, The Osmonds and other great delights I came to the last box. In the last few records were Bill Harris, Kurt Harris, Mighty Pope and a Barbara Mcnair. I went upstairs and asked the price. He said "I will just go on the computer and check the values as I know nothing about 45s". My heart sank as he went into the office. Out he came and said the computer has crashed and you will have to come back later. I said that I couldn't as I was due to meet my wife who had gone shopping in the mall. He pulled a awkward face and said "How about $30 for the four" I could have hugged him. I paid the $30 canadian and made a sharp exit. Regards Kev

Dave, Was the guy on the small side and probably in his 40s or 50s then. I went into a shop in Pittsburgh and the guy said are you a Brit and I said no I'm Welsh. He said that's ok then as I didn't think he knew where Wales was. He said take no notice of the prices on the covers as I will do you a great deal. I picked out about 15 singles and went to the counter. He had a pencil behind his ear and put in his hand and started re-marking the prices on the sleeves as double. I asked what he was doing and said the prices were old and needed to be updated. I said forget it and started to walk out of the shop. He started following me and said your are a Brit just trying to rip people off, so F off out of my shop. Gutted really as there were some nice records, but hey the principle of it all. Kev

Great 70s from The Main Ingredient. On US RCA in birth sleeve. The record is EX+ but has a very small mark in the fade out where the music fades out and there are about 5 very small clicks. Not sure if it is some slight glue residue but I have left it as is. Apart from that, the record plays great all the way through. £35 plus £2. 50 postage signed for.

Bruce Springsteen does Frank Wilson, give me strength!
Kevin Jones replied to vince ayres's topic in Freebasing
I have the greatest respect for Bruce Springsteen. A great singer, songwriter artist and performer, but sorry his latest release is ! ! ! oh dear. I heard it on Steve Wright yesterday afternoon and thought what next. Maybe Liz Truss and Keir Starmer doing a cover version of TWO CAN HAVE A PARTY (Well it's not really a Party) or even Boris Johnson covering Cloud Nine. Motown is always good to make a few bob for some people. Only my humble opinion. Kev -

So sad to hear of the passing of Lamont Dozier a real Giant in the world of Motown and Soul Music. He wrote so many wonderful songs, from the days with Eddie and Brian Holland at Motown to going solo in the 70s. His style was something special, he was a real talent with that smooth tone when he sang. R.I.P. Lamont

Just noticed that 20% VAT being automatically added to certain overseas Ebay purchases. Just another obstacle in the world of record buying.

BROUGHTON WINGS SOUL CLUB I have left this posting until now as I thought there may have been a slim chance of having a slight reprieve, but I lost the fight and I am afraid COVID won. This month of December would have seen our now famous Charity Night Special and Soul For Santa. It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Broughton Wings Soul Club will no longer be able to go ahead at the Sports and Social Club. Many of us knew that the club would have to close at the end of 2020 and a new club was being built. The new club is due to be completed sometime during January/February. When completed I have been asked to look at the new club and see if it would be suitable as a venue. I must be honest and say at this stage I don’t really know as the design concept is very different to the existing club. We will just have to wait and see. It should have been the 20th Anniversary back in June and again because of the situation like all soul venues this could not go ahead. Running consistently for 20 Years is something to be extremely proud of. So, I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge heartfelt thanks to the following, To everyone who has given their support to put Broughton on the Soul Map. To the bar staff who kept the flow of drinks going all night. To all the Guest DJs over the last 20 years who have entertained everyone. So many to mention, but special thanks go out to Chico who we all miss so much. To everyone who dug deep in their pockets and helped to raise just over £20,000 for the charity nights I arranged. Benefiting the likes of Breast Cancer Trust, Dementia UK, The Homeless Society Smiles For Miles Children’s Charity and so many, many more. To everyone, who’s unbelievable generosity in donating toys for our Christmas Soul For Santa which went at Christmas to the sick children at Hope House Hospice and Wrexham and Chester Children’s Wards. To Steve Thomas for running the Up, Up And Away Broughton Website. Finally, to two people. My great friend of 50 years. Soul Sam whose enthusiasm, knowledge, and his ability to entertain everyone, no matter what soul music you like. To my wife Sue who has helped in so many, many ways, a personal thank you. I know I have gone on a bit, but it had to be said. We all love soul music but staying safe and healthy in this current climate and these uncertain times is far more important. Have the best Christmas you can possibly have and here is hoping for a better 2021 for all. I hope to be spinning those pieces of plastic somewhere at some point in the future. Kev.
