  1. Yes, sorry 'bout that Barry (blame Len! lolol). Your having a proper dig there hey! We'll sure be there until the end this time. Doh, yet more blatant plugs for events on a thread which should be all about the Westcoast Soulstars. Sorry! Kids will be asking in the morning why I've circled 17th December on their advent cal All the best, Steve.
  2. As the topic has moved on to the label! lol... Me too and I remember the C&C from their LP a good few years ago, so was well pleased when it finally got the 45 release. Monique Thomas sure has a lovely voice and what a great record that is hey?! More like those please, and look forward to further releases from Street Soul and others. Steve Monique Thomas at Nowt Fast pt 3 in a couple weeks Barry?!....if you're taking requests?!
  3. Nice flurry of activity on this thread hey?! Great PR for Westcoast Soulstars is the main thing. Might just take you up on that offer Moldie, and John ain't far away either, as you know ...and Simon?! Actually, I think I have to thank John for reminding me about this band when he played their first release at a night a few months back. Cheers John..hope you're well. Steve
  4. Hi Moldie (again! lol)...Yeah I had heard that and would like to give it a go sometime, although near 200 mile round trip for me not the most attractive attribute of said night! You love driving up and down the country. I don't! Sorry for the off topic / blatant plug by Moldie Steve
  5. Hello. Also picked this up as soon as it came out and reminds me of some good danceable soulful releases back in early 90's...Driza / The Affair / Watergates etc. Personally think I prefer the previous release (Show me Love) but could be an interestin band to follow for sure. Have heard both out only the once (empty room at the time, sadly!) & have played both out in recent months to warm some kit up here and there, but still searching for a good local(ish) night which plays bits like these and more like 'em. Any thoughts? Just noticed they have a website and a few imminent gig dates etc: https://westcoastsoulstars.co.uk/ All the best, Steve
  6. Recently spotted one (Different kind of love on the flip) in a sales box at an event. From memory think the seller initially wanted £200 but would've accepted £150. Thought at the time I like it and have been listening to it on a CD for years, but still not for that price. I have sellers details if you're interested. All the best, Steve.
  7. ....Sometime next year mate! 3 hours is long time mind. You fancy double decking then?! lolol
  8. If this is now the "event lookback" then yes, superb Tuesday evening as always. Well done Rich / Maz / Nick / Mel & Co. Sure is different every week but with one guaranteed common theme...GREAT SOUL AND BANTER...and great stepping stone to get through the week. Until next Tuesday.....
  9. You'll be fine Rich! Look forward to listening in and bit of banter on t'internet chat room. A box of your fave records, get the deck speed sorted and weight off the cartridges a bit ...the rest will take of itself. Just enjoy it. All the best, Steve
  10. Must admit I've never tried to dance to it either, but like hearing it nice n loud anyway. Anyone else out there playing it anywhere?
  11. Don't think I've heard it anywhere. Deffo one for early as you say Chalky. Great bass lines though hey?!
  12. Think I paid about £20 for a VG+ a couple months back. Played it out on couple early spots and I like it on big system. Surprised to see one go for so much above, but then that's auctions for you sometimes hey. All the best, Steve.
  13. Picked up 40 records from a local 2nd hand shop the other week for £4 (I actually gave them a fiver and said keep the change!). Nothing that special in there but included the superb classic Stevie Wonder double LP "Songs in the Key of Life" in near mint condition...not bad for 10p!
  14. Don't think I've heard this before so just had a listen. I like it. Thanks.
  15. Always loved the vocal passion which belts through on this old one!
  16. Barbara Mercer - So Real. A pal holding a nice copy for me so I'm looking forward to adding this to the collection soon! Not sure if YouTube allowed on this thread so by all means delete if not (my first Yellow Card?):
  17. Blimey, what a bargain! Been listening to "I get my Groove (Crossover soul from the Deep South)" this last few months and great to see some more well though through comps being released. I love trying to track down original 45's I like the sound of, and for me personally these comps are great way to discover yet more great soul to try and hunt down when funds allow. My only gripe is the post-Christmas release date ...oh, and that these CD's will no doubt double my "wants list" . All the best, Steve
  18. 155 posts on one thread on it's first day. Strewth. Is that a record? Taken me a while to read through to be honest and not surprised to see many expressing strong opinions and some saying "so what", more or less. Personally only been to one weekender this year....Tried Brid with a pal and had a great weekend away from the norm. Spent most of our time in the modern & rare rooms with main room for bit of entertainment, people watching as well as the odd dance and atmos in there. But no arm-linked dancing it's fair to say (or did I miss it?!). Had a great time / heard some truly great records / had a beer or two etc / no kids waking me up at 6am Sunday morning. Result, and needed it at the time. Would I go to that or another one like it again? Prob not as I enjoy local(ish) nights out too much instead, and further travels when I can. Family time is precious on Sundays and I need sleep as much as soul. Anyway, seeing the clip today got me thinking how I'd have reacted if that had happened at said weekender I went to, if I was in the room at the time. Think it's fair to say I'd have maybe stood and watched for a short moment in quiet disbelief, maybe would have sent a text to Len with a "lol" or two and perhaps just thought..."so this is what maybe happens at the end of a night in a main room at a weekender by the sea-side?...Not for me, didn't expect that, but whatever", then back to the smaller room or nearest place serving chips. Been to enough AMAZING nights this year to feel happy with chosen soul nights out every fortnight or so, as well as soul nights in...Will be for many years to come I hope, no matter what, and have met some great people / made some great new friends along the way.... Would I want to hold hands and dance with any of them at a Northern or other soul night / event? No thanks, not really even on NYE, but some people obviously do after a drink. .....I do like holding hands and dancing with my kids to soul music in the house though. That IS good fun, so long as no one records it! All the best, Steve
  19. Interesting thread this and lots I personally don't know and will enjoy looking up, as always! So many records and artists do it for me (a good few above) and depends on your mood / where you are / who you're with etc I guess. Recently recorded a few 45's onto CD for the car and sometimes driving you hear a song in a different way. I nearly had to pull over the other day when I listened real carefully to JP Robinson - "Our day is here", played nice and loud. Seems right for some returning war heroes now and in the future too I think. Examples of a few others I currently love listening to which I think are real soulful are Enchanted Five - "Darling I need you now" and Universal Joint - "Love won't wear off (as the years wear on)". Also recently re-discovered an old Spyder Turner LP with a gorgeous soulful version of "I can't wait until I see my baby's face". Sublime. Could go on all night, as obviously there's a mind boggling volume of unbelievable soul out there. I just feel blessed there's so much to hear for the first time which I just know is gonna have the same effect on me as a few examples above.
  20. Soul Sam. How lucky are we that individuals like Sam make it their mission in life to do what they do? I think that's all I wanted to say really...other than I can't wait 'till 10th December when he makes a guest appearance in my home town!
  21. Superb! I look forward to listening to these in the coming days and learning what I missed back then. Thanks v much.
  22. In approx order, I think this is most of what I played to warm the kit up on Saturday before I handed over to Hammie and all other great guest DJ's from 8.45, for what was a superb second night for this new event... Lovations - Heaven told me so (Part III) Barbara Mason - Ain't got nobody (Arctic) Gloria Parker - The best thing for you baby (Samar) Jean Wells - What have I got to lose (Calla) Barrett Strong - Is it true (Capitol) Whispers - Flying High (Soul Clock)..thanks again Jem! Jesse James - If you're lonely take my hand (20th Century) Lovettes - I need a guy (Carnival) Dynells - Call on me (Atco) Lorraine Rudolph - Keep coming back for more (Jet Stream) Viola Wills - I've got news for you (Supreme) Volumes - You got it baby (Inferno) J P Robinson - Keep me satisfied (Blue Candle) Voice Masters - When a woman catches a fool (Bamboo) Chaumonts - When you love someone (Bay Sound) Lewis Clark - I need your lovin' so bad (Tiger Town) Unique Blend - Yes I'm in love (Eastbound) Choice of Colour - Your love (APT) Mixed Feelings - Sha-La-La (United) Imperial Wonders - You live only once (Solid Foundation) TSU Toronadoes - What good am I (Atlantic) Albert Jones - Fifteen cent love (Kapp) Thanks for looking, and thanks to all those who came along to the night and made it what it was. Steve
  23. No "Top Want" on my list as such...Just a growing list which I TRY to keep realistic in terms of what I can afford and what I really like for my own soul self-satisfaction, and hopefully for others to enjoy too here and there. Blimey this can be an expensive addiction can't it!!
  24. Hearing new records to my ears every single day, 60's to current and loving the full soul spectrum. Still asking the "dumb" questions at nights out and not afraid to admit I don't know something when I hear it for 1st, or even 2nd, 3rd time etc. Ref Martine Girault above, remember buying that new when it was much talked about at the time and hundreds more like it. Some great new soul coming out lately too...Keep an open mind all!
  25. Only discovered them myself in the last week, picking up a 45 called "The Joy" (Soulfly records), which I can't see on you tube but think is a nice feel-good recording.
