  1. Be great to see this thread run a bit more, but hard looking through to make sure no repeating. I can't see this has had a mention, but I think it's worth posting having found it on the shelf gathering dust tonight. Z.Z. Hill - "Everybody needs somebody"....not to be confused with the perhaps better known song with same title on Blues Brothers film! (flip to " You just cheat and lie" on KENT)
  2. Just superb soul tonight from more loyal listeners...special guests Jeff & Carol...Nick & Mel bringing quality people and making it great fun as always. Also just goes to show you don't have to spend an absolute fortune to collect truly amazing records. The steppers had me stepping and nodding, the dancers had me off my seat and the few at the end had me sitting back with eyes closed and tears welling. Just great Steve
  3. Not sure if this counts as a "Monster Ballad" but it is to my ears as it just makes me close my eyes & soak it up when I play it (except when driving!) and I can't see it's been listed as yet, so shoot me down or just enjoy! Lovations - "(I keep singing) la la la ooh"....literally! (flip to "Heaven told me so")
  4. Some amazing records on here this last few months and I think I need some lessons on what was officially an "A" side and a "B" side! Hope I'm not repeating any and a few which I can't find on you tube, also which I don't know how to post soundclips of for now... I love for them being such a different tempo of quality soul from the A sides. Whether the A sides to these can be classed as "Northern Soul Classics" is maybe up for debate, but then what isn't up for debate these days! Jean Carter - "That boy ain't no good" (flip to "Like One") Sandra Phillips - "Hoping you'll come back" (flip to "I wish I had known") Alex Brown - "Something" (flip to "I'm not responsible") Sunday - "Where did he come from" (flip to "Ain't got no problems") I actually thought Clydie King "My Love Grows Deeper" was an "A" side (the demo I have on Imperial doesn't seem to say, like so many other 45's...unless I'm being dumb!)...so I was thinking that the gorgeous "Missin' my baby" was therefore a "B" side. Apparently not having looked into it tonight, but here it is anyway... as it's still the "B" side in my brain, but actually the one I listen to more
  5. Will try and get some label photos posted up but in the meantime here's a couple from me. Carl Hall - You're so qualified. A Brothers Guiding Light - Getting Together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh23HW4i7OU
  6. I missed this thread originally but picked up a copy of this great new 45 on Saturday night after Steve Plumb kindly recommended it to me...Was a "blind buy", so to speak, but sometimes they're the best I think and good fun if you then have to wait a bit to play it. More please! Steve
  7. I recall speaking with Pat Brady about this a couple of years ago but I can't remember the full story, other than Joe did apparently receive an appropriate amount for the re-issue run (not sure how many were pressed)...I'm sure Pat be happy to speak with anyone who wants to know more. I have a near mint original with just a couple of light clicks at the start if anyone is interested then please PM me with a sensible offer (sorry I know this isn't sales forum but thought I'd mention it). All the best, Steve
  8. Blimey...Just had a quick listen and no idea! I also quite like the first of the second....You ought to post the full track if you have it . I used to like trying to get behind breaks and beats of hip-hop etc... tracks from likes of Greyboy, 4Hero, UFO, De La Soul, Jungle Bros etc...to see if I could identify and track down original soul / funk / jazz 45's or LP's, but out of practice these days... just get my daily fix from quality soul instead! Good luck with your quest. Steve.
  9. I personally only have the one 45 on Gordy "You've got the love I need", but I just found this on you tube and thought worth posting for the different dance skits if nothing else!

  12. Barbara Lynn -Trying to love two.... 4mins 40 secs (ish). I love the record and have a minty issue on Ichiban, but it's 2 mins too long I think.
  13. I went to Bridlington for first time last year and nearly slipped flat on my ar$e as soon as I stepped onto the floor in the main room . Was a great floor though once I got my Bambi balance back
  14. I'm a bit late looking at this thread (story of my life!) but it's interesting as lots of the tracks / artists etc listed on here, I discovered largely through buying records and CD's that were being released during the 80's & 90's when I first started working, including some superb compilations which then got me into the great addiction of hunting down more of the original 45's and LPs a few years back. Bands like Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Young Disciples, Soul II Soul even + Compilations such as these, released late 80's early 90's are what really got me interested in learning more / delving deeper as part of my journey to now really enjoying and buying Northern Soul records.... "Rare" 1 - 5 (RCA and Arista recordings)...where I first heard the likes of Garland Green and Weldon Irvine etc. "Urban Classics" 1 & 2 on Polydor...where I first heard the likes of Jackson Sisters - I believe in miracles / The Mob / Sweet Charles. "Soul Chasers" 1 & 2 + "Soulsource" comps on Expansion...where I first heard the likes of Gloria Scott and Trumains etc. "Rare Groove" and "Jazz Funk" comps etc on Mastercuts...where I first heard Leon Ware and some great Japanese bands etc. "Moving on" and other Brit-Soul related comps over those years. ....+ loads more from the likes of Mr Dewhirst etc. Great. I still love it when I hear something out or buy an original LP or 45 and then try to find the LP or CD compilation I first heard a particular track on all those years ago.
  15. I agree...Since I started going out more to local soul nights a couple of years ago and then travelling a bit further when I can (now as Len's official driver ) I've never met so many funny / friendly (mostly!) and interesting people, let alone the high level of music knowledge around which has enriched my life and soul massively. I try and make the effort to chat to just about anyone I can when out and about and it's clear there's a large percentage of soul lovers who don't look at this site. I only discovered it myself about 2 yrs ago when searching on t'internet for something else. I've noticed a few younger faces at some of the local soul nights in Northants...some of whom are now wanting to learn more and I think / hope will be regulars, as I now am when I can, but from what I've seen it does seem that the town / city centre pubs and clubs are still rammed most weekends with most "youngsters" seemingly just wanting to get mango'd whilst shouting at each other over music that now just hurts my ears. People will do what they do and generally stick with what their mates want to do / go, usually without travelling more than a taxi ride from home. It's been said before but let's just all enjoy it while we can and make the most of the GREAT nights we choose to go to hey
  16. ...Never mind Rich, there's always October Oxford looks good too, so I'll be trying that sometime (but not in June obviously )
  17. Snooks in Raunds! Sooooo good.
  18. Oh dear! lol. That did make me cringe, smile, tap my foot a bit, laugh, cringe again! I'm amazed there's not a Karaoke version with a ball bouncing across the words! I think I prefer the Bamboos instrumental version from couple years back and the recent Al Supersonic & Teenagers "Paint yourself in the corner" (inst side) more
  19. Lovely record. Bugging me now though as to what the other more well known version of this is which uses the same backing (but female vocal and different lyrics)? Steve
  20. Depends how you define "young"...If being born in the 70's qualifies, then yes, you can count me in Still not enough from what I can see mind you. If only people knew what they were missing hey. Cheers, Steve.
  21. You mean this one Boba? Absolutely superb..thanks as I'd not seen this before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diadZbYpvGk
  22. Guessing this has been done before but couldn't immediately find anything.... First time I heard Nick Allen's "Hard way to Go" a few months back (thanks again Gouch ) about half way through the record I instantly recognised two lines of lyric: "Looks like nothings gonna change... Everything remains the same...." It is of course same as Otis Redding from his "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay", and sung more or less in exactly the same pitch / style etc (to my ears anyway!). Otis goes on to sing "I can't do what ten people tell me to do, so I'll guess I remain the same", whereas Nick Allen goes on to sing "If she lives to a hundred and two, I still wanna be in love with you"...or something like that. Anyway, got me wondering if anyone else had noticed this and also any other totally different songs which "share" a line or two of same lyrics? (but obviously not just same song by different artists..as there's tonnes of those I know). Cheers, Steve
  23. Surely No 5 is DJ's &/or promoters :D
  24. Great ...thats more like it. Thanks Pete.
  25. I'm glad me starting this thread had some use anyway ...Any more interesting stuff on TSU Toronados / Archie Bell & Drells?... before Chalky moves this to mag/tech
