  1. Hi Mark. Have pm'd you on the Channel 3. Cheers, Steve.
  2. Anything of interest then please let me know via PM and I'll post today upon payment. Some these were listed a few weeks back and prices dropped even more on some, but also a dozen new ones added! Email photos or more info on request. All VG++ (Soulsource gradings) unless stated. Please add £2.50 for 1st class recorded in the UK or £5 for Special Delivery. Overseas extra. Thanks. Paypal: steve.scotney@sky.com or direct bank transfer. Thanks for looking, Steve Jackey Beavers - Bring me all your heartaches / Don't wanna lose you (Grand Land) - M- £100 SWAPPED Candy and the Kisses - Out in the streets again / Sweet & Lovely (Scepter) - small WOL. £50 SWAPPED Jean Carter - Like One / That boy ain't no good. £175. Harder to find and gorgeous looking black Decca issue in company sleeve. Two great sides. I would grade both label and record as M- visibly but please note it is well documented that the quality of reproduction on the Decca recordings of this classic does suffer from some sound distortion, namely on the "Like One" side, whereas the later issue on MCA does not. That said, still sounds great on a big system IMO and this is probably as cheap as you'll see an issue this year. SOLD Celestrals - Checkerboard Lover / I feel it coming on (Don-El) - £50..Different and underplayed double sider in near M condition. Carolyn Crawford - Forget about me / Devil is in his heart (Motown) - £40 Carolyn Crawford - My smile is just a frown turned upside down / I'll come running (Motown) DH - £40 Cynthia & the Imaginations - Is there anyone, anywhere / There's something the matter (Magic City) - £35..Double sider and great looking label! Ray Frazier - Your Eyes / Good Side (The Carriage Trade) M- £60 Kelly Garrett - Loves the only answer / Knowing when to leave (Smash DJ) - £100. Looks & plays great with no real scratches, BUT does suffer from some styrene burn background hiss, barely noticeable when played LOUD on big system! Hence grade VG+ and LOW price.SOLD Gary Toms Empire - Love me right / same (PIP) - £20 Anne Heywood - Crook his little finger / Everything under the Sun (Hondo, rarer yellow one) M- £170...Surely a tempting price for this great double sider in amazing condition!! SWAPPED Invitations - What's wrong with me baby / Why did my baby turn bad (dyno voice) DH. £100. Stone cold classic. SOLD Joe King - Speak on up / What's wrong (Prix) M- £40 Barbara Lynn - Tring to love two / Sugar coated love" (Ichiban) - £50 Monticellos - I can't wait until I see my baby's face / Don't hold back (Red Cap) - Couple very small clicks at start of "I can't wait..." side, so graded VG+ and priced £100 for two great sides. Joan Moody - We must be doing something right / The life of the party (Sylivia...black label white logo styrene)- £15 Perigents - Love on a rampage / Better keep movin' (Maltese) - £40 Rhythm Rascals - Why do you have to go / Girl by my side (Sonic) - £30...Two great sides. Moses Smith - Keep on strivin' / Come on , let me love you (Cotillion. promo in Co sleeve) - VG+ (some light visible marks which you can't hear when played) £150..Another great and in-demand double sider I think. Tempos - Don't leave me / I need you (Riley's) - £30 Trumains - Ripe for the pickin' / same (RCA demo) - VG+ £125 Joe Valentine - I lost the only love I had / Surely, I'll never do you wrong (VAL original 7225RDS 45-7225-1 DMRS 720603 matrix) - £125..Both sides just great. Vont Claires - Don't cha tell nobody / I've got tears in my eyes (Double R Records) - £30 Wales Wallace - We're not happy / That ain't the way (Bashie)- £40 Timothy Wilson - Loving you / Pigtails (Buddah) DH - £40...Two great sides for price of one! Rose St.John and The Wonderettes - Mend my broken heart / And if I had my way (United Artists DJ in Co sleeve) WOL (has small initials "K.S." on one side of label but otherwise great) - £90....Another strong double sider!
  3. I've just woken up to see the regrettable impact of my original quite innocent (at least that's what I intended it to be) post. I had no idea that a simple request for info on I record could unfold in this way and I sincerely apologise to you John for the hassle this has caused. I'll contact you separately of course. Locking down now to prevent any other adverse comments as this is not good for anyone in my opinion. Steve.
  4. Sorry Rod / anyone in mods...do I now need to edit title of this post so as not to waste anyone's time looking at it? Or just leave as is for general interest for anyone like me who didn't know this record before just now and might like to know of it? Thanks. Steve
  5. Blimey thanks, that was quick Appreciate that and proves there's no better place to find out about soul, no matter what time of day or night! Thanks again. I'll go look for one with a label on! I do know this seller and he's a decent guy who bulk buys lots of different old records and sells on as an when. He would NOT have scratched this label off himself and then tried to pass this on as something "unknown" to make a few bucks. Just wanted to get that on here if anyone is thinking otherwise. Sorry to anyone here bidding on it
  6. Browsing for a few mins just now and spotted this 45 described as an unknown test press with sound clip. Apart from poor quality and a skip, the actual main track sounds early to mid 70's, not too bad to my ears and even though I'm not bidding (there are bidders) I wondered if anyone on here for next couple hours knows what / who it is? I do know the seller, but as he's in Oz and only 2 hours to go on the sale, unlikely to find out much more just now. Chorus something like "You were so hard to find, and you blew my mind"? Also a sweet / deep flip some might like. Thanks, Steve
  7. I'm sure you're not alone there but maybe worth picking up a copy of his "Stand by me" LP with this track and a good few others. It's cheap still (I think) and might either convince you that you stick by your thinking or maybe might change your mind. A nice version of "I can't wait until I see my baby's face" too.
  8. ...and you can fit a half decent padlock on them too, whereas you can't on some. Just watch the handles if you have young kids as they do snap back a bit when played with, as my youngest discovered last year, bless her! Also stacking them is still a prob mind, with the corner protectors as they are. Brilliant cases and service though.
  9. I have to say I've got as much from reading the sleeve notes as I have from listening to the CD a good few times so far. Really interesting thanks Ady and all those who helped you. Steve.
  10. I was aware of a legit 2nd issue (at least I think it's legit) but not aware of a boot of this LP?
  11. We all have personal taste, of course we do. What I meant was it's annoying when someone tries to tell you their taste is better, or for example moan like hell at you about something that's being played at an event just because it is not to their taste when others there are clearly into it.
  12. YES ...Postie has just slid down the driveway with precious cargo and I'm currently having a 3rd attempt at trying to get through the plastic covering. Deep breath and kettle on, kids pushed out to play and hi-fi fired up.
  13. Being at the "younger end" of 40 something and collecting / listening to ALL kinds of soul music since my teens, but only really getting deeper into Northern and Rare soul + going to more events this last 3 or 4 years, I still remain amazed and frustrated in equal measure with the blinkered view of some people (including many 40 somethings and younger!) when it comes listening, dancing or just generally talking about this unbelievable range of music we all love. We belong to something pretty special I think, so whether it's 60's or current releases, well known things or the "new to your ears" things, 100mph or deep and sweet soul etc etc...Just take a step back and feel lucky to be able to enjoy it.
  14. Thanks v much for posting these links a few weeks ago. I took delivery of The Fame Studios Story + Hall of Fame CD's yesterday (with pt 2 of Hall of Fame on the way soon hopefully!). Only a quick listen through so far but absolutely amazing soul. A real education / insight into the Fame Studios. All the sleeve notes, photos + overall presentation make these an absolute bargain when you think of the time that Tony Rounce, Alec Palao and Dean Rudland must've taken to pull these together with such passion and interest. There are compilations and then there are COMPILATIONS. Thanks again, Steve
  15. I had issue no 138 (Nov) through the door a few weeks back, so yes hopefully still okay?
  16. Any one for a consortium?...one month each a year?! Actually I take that back as still couldn't afford it and even if I could I think I'd still prefer to go out and dance to it now and then...let someone else have the worry of ownership / potential damage when playing it out. Brilliant record and will never forget the first time I heard it, which unlike you lot wasn't actually that many years ago. Ahh but the hundreds of other amazing records to be chased down and enjoyed instead.
  17. Hi there..Have sent you a PM on this. Thanks, Steve.
  18. Thanks Rod. So unless anyone can add anything more, they look and sound exactly the same but one has "stereo" and AR" in the run out and the other does not. So which one is the original issue, for what it's worth knowing, or are we all past caring as they both look and sound so good?! If no replies then please Billy lock this thread and I'll sleep easy knowing what I paid for mine was about right whilst Rod still tries to get even with his mate who sold him a wrong 'un! Steve
  19. Thanks Franc. 45 safely received with thanks.Steve
  20. Four Wonders did also have a release on the same Solid Foundation label Billy..."Just looking for my love", but not sure if there was also maybe a label misprint as sometimes happened. Let's see what anyone else has to say on this. If nothing else it reminds us what a great record the Imperial Wonders is. Off topic I know, but I also love Imperial Wonders release "Trying to get to you" on Black Prince. Well worth a listen.
  21. That's strange then Rod. Are you looking at the green / brown one like in the photo further up this thread? Anyone else checking theirs tonight and have anything more to say on this one?! Thanks for opening a can of worms on this great record Billy! Steve
  22. Hi Gary. I struggled on this one too last year but got there in the end. Try Flynny on here, as I recall he knew someone where he is in Japan who might be selling theirs. Steve
  23. Interested in picking up a nice condition copy of this Spindletop 45 if anyone has one to sell or trade? Thanks, Steve.
  24. A Similar debate on here a couple of years back and I'm still none the wiser! The one I'm looking at in my hands now is green / brown and as per Rod's description above (molded label, vinyl, matrix "LBM 101 ARS", also with "Stereo" and another "AR" in the same run out groove), so unless anyone can tell me any different I think it's okay afterall? Thanks.
  25. Well that fits the description of one I picked up from an established ebay seller about 2 yrs ago which was described as "original" and priced as such. Oh well, I still love it, and if that is the case, the sound quality is indeed superb. Anyone else been caught out on this or can give any more info on what differentiates an original? Thanks, Steve.
