Very happy to be proved wrong as I would love to learn that there was enough material for an LP, maybe lurking unreleased somwhere, but I searched several years ago and asked around at Soul Essence in Yarmouth where I first heard it played out, found nothing unfortunately…what an album that could’ve been! The wonderful 45 like no other both sides has been reissued this week on Symphonical Records, so maybe we’re in for a treat if they managed to find the LP Meanwhile the reissue was waiting on my doormat when back from work today, which I’m quite happy about having regrettably sold mine a few years back…the release sounds amazing compared to the beat up copy I had!

Lost Worlds with Ben Fogle (City of Detroit)
Scotters replied to David Meikle's topic in All About the SOUL
That was an eye opening roller coaster of a watch…some of those images of how the buildings and hoods are now, so sad to see and looked a lot like the upside down on Stranger Things! -

More 'Soul With A Message' and leading this with the stunning Don Bryant track, included in a couple of other social conscious soul mixes in the last year or so...this time from the 45 now it's finally made a vinyl release thanks to the guys at Creative Soul. Also some other recent and decent tracks alongside some 70s sides, slowing things down later on. A couple of the older 45's have been included in previous mixes but fit well again here I think. Hope you enjoy and keep safe & well.

Been a while since I’ve done a mix of slower sides, sharing for anyone interested, crackles included for free ..an hour of male vocal and group harmony, deep, sweet, lowrider sides, including a few favourite harder to find 45s. Tracklist in a few days, cheers.

Was in a reggae mood to wind down from work last night…final strands of summer with days getting shorter so fast now Selection of 45s from the last several years, kicking off with very catchy new release by Mikey General on Daptone followed by a few more Dap faves, then into some equally classy Colemine releases and many others, easing back the tempo later on as the Red Stripe soaked in. Tracklist in a few days for anyone interested. Cheers

'When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat, instead, they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future'.....quote from our late Queen Elizabeth II, rest in peace Ma'am. Hard times & sad times made easier when we get together. Mix of some more favourite 21st Century Soul with a message, mostly positive & uplifting vibes for better times ahead hopefully!

All set up for tonight. See you there if you can make it along. Music and fun starts around 7.30. PS…it will be a lot darker than this -
Soulful summer mix of 45's and a few download only tracks. Leading with the wonderful imminent new 45 from Soul Junction Records (previously unreleased early 90's gold from Lamont Johnson & Eugene, with B side also included later on!), lovingly mixed with another SJ fave from 2017 by E.R.I.C (Extra Rich In Class...says it all!). Then into a couple of other contemporary soul faves and more essential previously unreleased recordings from the late 70's. Half way in there's a few download only dance floor friendly gems from 2015/16, then back into the 45's, including the amazing recent 45 on Super Disco Edits (previously unreleased masterpiece by Roz Ryan 'Love Changes'), closing out with an absolute fave by Aretha Franklin from 2003. Hope you enjoy, full track list in a few days

Knocking it out the park again, well done! Have loved hearing this out and dancing to it once or twice a year. On the ever changing wants for too long, so this will do nicely thank you…but how to resist playing it too much so it’s still a treat to hear?! -
Been a while since the last 'Lost & Found' mix...so here are some more faves of previously unreleased / alt takes from the 60's / 70's / 80's... This time selected from a handful of wonderful CD comps that usually live in my car, rescued earlier last week from the unbelievable heat! Thanks as always to everyone at KENT / Ace for all the hard work in finding and licensing such lost treasures for us to hear, to read about in the liner notes and great photos with each CD. Pretty sure none of these have ever made it to any vinyl 45 release as yet, but happy to be corrected on that. Hope you enjoy. Plenty more to follow this year 1. Eddie Floyd - That’s all 2. Luv Co - Don’t send nobody else 3. Linda Perry - Ain’t nobody gonna make me (turn my back in my baby) 4. Eddie Floyd - Can we talk it over 5. Barbara & The Browns - So cruel 6. This is Northern Soul in Northants - The Stanwick Hotel
Scotters posted a soul guide event in Soul Nights
It’s hard to believe we are into our 8th year of promoting Soul events at this fantastic venue. There is a new way guaranteeing your space on the dance floor! Buy your tickets on line at or you can still pay on the door (subject to availability) The Venue; The Stanwick Hotel is an award winning privately owned boutique hotel situated in the heart of rural east Northants. The main function room has a fantastic beech wood large dance floor (ideal for dancers). There is ample parking and food available. Rooms are available to book if you are travelling to the event. Why not make a weekend of it! The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the beautiful Stanwick Lakes Nature reserve and activity centre and less than 10 minutes from one of the newest shopping complexes in the UK Rushden Lakes which has many top brand retailers situated within. The team; behind the event are Jem Brittin, Len Dopson, Steve Scotney & the latest addition local Soul fan Paul Hunter. Between Len & Jem over a 25 year period they promoted some of the best attended Soul Nights in Northants. Len staged the much loved ‘Embankment’ Soul Nights in Wellingborough from the mid 90s to the mid 00s. Jem was one of the founder promoters of The Pembo Soul Nights (Pemberton Centre) Rushden and the originator of The Soul in the Bowl nights Rushden, both these events featured Len as co promoter. I’m sure many will remember the legendary ‘Len’s Den room’ at the original Soul In The Bowl Nights. Steve joined the team about 10 years ago and along with Jem promoted ‘The Snooks’ Raunds Soul Nights back in 2012. As well as regularly DJing, Steve is hands on behind the scenes with the technical stuff and equipment. Paul is a Northants lad who has been into the music since the mid 1970s, a regular attendee of nights up and down the country and is passionate about promoting ‘This is Northern Soul’ in Northants and beyond! The Music & Sound; Jem & Len’s era’s on the scene started at different times but also crossed over. Jem started his journey in the 1970s ‘Golden era’ of Wigan Casino etc. while Len Started out during the ‘Second wave’ 100 Club etc during the late 80s/ early 90s. So musically they are inspired by those times. Predominately you will hear most of Northern Soul tunes you know and love at the event but also be prepared to be pleasantly surprised by some other inclusions in the DJ sets. We will also feature specially selected guest DJ’s that fit in with our ethos of entertaining the crowd and importantly keeping the dance floor busy! All music is on vinyl format, played on the industry standard Technics 1210 decks through the most up to date top quality sound system. We are confident that you will hear the music we all love in the finest fidelity! -

Oh dear, I seem to have started something that I now know is gonna take some time to work through this year and likely into next!.... Issue No 3 of 'VOICES' from 1987 and I delved a bit deeper this time, trying to find some of the records featured in this issue and soon realising my collection is in absolutely no sort of order and needs a proper good tidy up! Two mixes for the price of one here, the first being more mid tempo and steppers, the second being slower ballads / deep and sweet...all from the early to mid 80's and many of these featured & reviewed in issue 3 as then new releases...some I bought at the time as new, many from Rod over the last several years before he retired, that I'd have likely never heard if it wasn't for him including them in various soul packs. Mixes include tracks from Rod's choices of 'single of the issue' (Bobby McClure) and 'Album of the issue (Prince Phillip Mitchell 'Devastation') along with tracks form several other LP's & reviewed / featured in issue 3. Both mixes are also peppered with other early and mid 80's indie soul tracks that may well be featured in earlier or later Voices mags. Tracklist: 1. Bobby McClure - You never miss your water (Edge) 2. Prince Phillip Mitchell - I can't get used to sleeping by myself (Ichiban) 3. Perri - Maybe tomorrow (Zebra/MCA) 4. Bobby Bland - Love me or leave me (Malaco) 5. Prince Phillip Mitchell - The show must go on (Ichiban) 6. The Manhattans - All I need (Columbia) 7. Solomon Burke - Love buys love (Rounder) 8. Dan Douglas - I'm gonna run me an ad (Try Me) 9. Louisiana Purchase - Baby come back (Basin Street) 10. Rhonda Clark - Sugar (Spectrum X) 11. Denise LaSalle - What's goin' on in my house (Malaco) 12. Solomon Burke - Don't tell me what a man won't do for a woman (Rounder) 13. Chuck Stanley - Day by day (Def Jam) 14. Bobby Bland - Second hand heart (Malaco) 15. Luther Ingram - All in the name of love (Profile) 16. The Manhattans ft Regina Bell - Where did we go wrong? (Columbia) 17. Prince Phillip Mitchell - She was my lady (Ichiban) 18. Treat - Without you (First Prize) 19. David Hudson - Let's get back together (Naylo) Tracklist: 1. Solomon Burke - It don't get no better than this (Rounder) 2. Prince Phillip Mitchell - You're gonna come back to love (Ichiban) 3. Luther Ingram - Baby don't go too far (Profile) 4. The Emotions - I can do anything (Red Label) 5. At the turn of 1987, issue no. 2 of VOICES included a hugely positive early review from Rod of the then new Bobby Womack LP release 'Womagic' (MCA). Then in issue 3 Mike Charlton gave a further detailed track by track endorsement.. and in that same issue Jan Barker couldn't decide between 3 of the tracks when counting down the most significant top 20 soul sides of 1986. I bought the LP as a new release at the time and played over and over through my mid-teens, but then somehow forgot all about until recently....No apologies then for peppering this mix with half a dozen tracks from that LP, also including a couple of other releases around that time featured in issue no 2 of Voices (Genobier Jeter, Frederick). Also in issue no.2, Tim Brown pulled together a great few pages 'The complete Latimore', listing out all of Benny Latimore's record releases up to that point, so I've also included a couple Latimore records that have arrived here in the various soul packs alongside others from the 70's and 80's...more to follow in future mixes. The opening few tracks are as fast as the tempo gets, gradually slowing it down as the mix goes on, some steppers then some slowies....just great, easy to find, affordable soul music. Hope you enjoy. Issue 3 / soul pack 3 to follow in a week or two. Tracklist: 1. Bobby Womack - When the weekend comes (MCA) 2. Soul Children - Don't take my kindness for weakness (Stax) 3. Edwin Starr - Stay with me (Granite) 4. Latimore - Discoed to death (Glades) 5. Bobby Womack - The things we do when we're lonely (MCA) 6. Aretha Franklin - With everything I feel in me (Atlantic) 7. Annette Snell - Love connection (Dial) 8. The Sweet Things - Breakfast in bed (Capitol) 9. Bobby Womack - More than love (MCA) 10. Stuff 'n' Ramjett - It's been a long time (Chelsea) 11. Latimore - Just one step (Glades) 12. Maze - Feel that you're feelin' (Capitol) 13. Bobby Womack - Outside myself (MCA) 14. Genobier Jeter - All of my love (RCA) 15. Instant Funk - So glad I'm the one (TSOP) 16. Peggy Scott - You can never get something for nothing (SSS) 17. Bobby Womack - I ain't got to love nobody else (MCA) 18. Latimore - Dig a little deeper (Glades) 19. Frederick - Gentle (calling your name) (HEAT) 20. Manhunt - I can't go on (Ti-con) 21. Bobby Womack - I can't stay mad (MCA) ...Thanks for looking / listening. Soul Pack 3 / Issue 3 coming soon

I've really enjoyed buying Soul Packs from Rod Dearlove over the last 10 years or so...thanks namely to Brian Goucher for putting me in touch and then being added to sales lists and regular emails etc. As many of you will know, Rod is influential former DJ (Thorne / early Soul Essence etc) and the man behind the brilliant but limited run of 'Voices From The Shadows' soul magazines in the 80's / 90's....I missed most of these at the time as I was only really buying Blues & Soul back then, but thankfully now have all copies and further realisation of how little I know.. and how few records I really have! Rod has retired now, having a break from selling records, but I loved not knowing all of what was going to be in each parcel...I keep all the 'Voices' soul pack records in separate boxes and in this thread I will gradually be posting a few mixes to share some favourites, mostly 60's to 80's. As 'Voices' started in the 80's, that's where I begin on this hot summer eve with some 45's from the 80's...some Capitol Classics, moving into steppers and then some ballads. Nothing rare, just great soul. Hope you enjoy Tracklist: 1. Sheree Brown - Get down, I'm so bad (Capitol) 2. Audrey Wheeler - Irresistible (Capitol) 3. The B. B. & Q. Band - Time for love (Capitol) 4. Maze - Running away (Capitol) 5. Clifton Dyson / Gwen Matthews - I'm giving up (QS) 6. Margie Joseph - Give it to me (HCRC) 7. Charles Beverly - Don't you want a man like me (Vanessa) 8. Perfect Touch - Merry go round (Morning Glory) 9. Eugene Wilde - Gotta get you home tonight (Philly World) 10. Kenny G ft Lenny Williams - Don't make me wait for love (Arista) 11. The Valentine Bros - Let me be close to you (Bridge) 12. Dorothy Moore - Don't hold your breath (Volt) 13. Edwin Starr - Nothing but all (Friends) 14. Jackie Ross - If it was me (Golden Ear) 15. Sheree Brown - I wanna be by your side (Capitol)
