Just scanning bbc news homepage just now and this sad news is the number one shared story on there at the time of writing. I think that says it all about how many people loved his music. What an amazing voice and contribution to music history. RIP Bobby.

Sadly a few slightly dished and warped here too from Amazon, although they do seem slightly better quality vinyl than first one and all play loud and clear...Yes same numbering as above. We all want these to be perfect and so we should, especially when other labels seem to manage it with new releases. Quality gripes aside, I still love the concept for these box sets + great song choices, packaging / info booklet and the download card all combined still really good value I think. I really do hope there's a top class 3rd set just in time for Christmas

Thanks again Steve for taking time to post each weeks show on Mixcloud and playlist on here. Brilliant. Just so much great new soul being released this year and this is a real easy (if a bit lazy!) way to hear the highlights for limited shopping budget Added bonus of some seriously good older tracks in the second hour is a real treat each week and always so many I've never heard. Cheers, Steve

Such a shame to read and some legacy / piece of work he's left behind on this site and other forums no doubt.....with all the information and insights he's put to type and with so many recordings of his great radio shows I'm still trying to catch up on. Just amazing soul taste and I'm always astounded that people like him and others on here have such good memories and knowledge, I know I never will. Guessing SoulSource database is pretty well backed up and posts etc stored for good, as news like this a reminder of just how much information is on here from people like Bob and others all around the world and risk of losing any of that maybe a reason to double check. All the best, Steve

The Hunt For Vinyl - Digging Old Fashioned Style
Scotters replied to Derek Pearson's topic in All About the SOUL
Would love to have a day looking through that lot! Ahh the smell of 30+ yr old damp card and paper.....the feeling that you might, just might find something amongst the rubbish. Have fun in there! Today I nipped into a local recycling place on my travels and there stacked up as I walked in were several old crates and mouldy card boxes of jumbled records and cd's etc people had dropped off...30 mins of sleeves up, breath held at times and digging I picked out ten half decent soul LPs and 12's (fiver the lot!). About to leave quite satisfied and spotted another pile of jumbled 45's so thought a quick look and amongst the pop and rock and pap was a glistening mint Grapevine demo (Sam Williams - Love slipped through my fingers / Towanda Barnes - You don't mean it). Not mega rare I know but the location and stuff it was amongst coupled with fact the fella only wanted 20p for it has truly made my day! Immediate reaction...if this is here where are other similar things from the person who dropped the box off? Sadly another 20 mins turning old furniture and toys etc over didn't result in a bigger find, but had my heart fluttering for the time I looked. I'll be back to the now secret location on a regular basis of course! ....Digging old fashioned style as you say. Can't beat it! -
Thanks to anyone who PMs me on one to sell or knows of someone who might.
-
Looking for this 45 on JWJ label if anyone wants to sell one to good home. Many thanks, Steve

So many aren't there but a few I've enjoyed hunting down over recent years, let alone dozens of great recent releases! Sandra phillips - I Wish I had known / hoping you'll come back JP Robinson - Our day is here / Keep me satisfied Talmadge Armstrong - Give it up / Gigi Towana and Total Destruction - Help me get that feeling back / Wear your natural baby Four Voices - Your love is getting stronger / With a lonely heart Edwin Starr - Running back an forth / Time Could go on all night! Brilliant when you get two sides for your money.

Loving the GC Cameron and Barbara Mason 45s that you guys at Soul Brother arranged for the recent RSD! Just brilliant and a good few other great records this year too. Gets better each year and long may it continue! Cheers and keep up the great work, Steve

Limmie Funk Ltd "i Cant Turn You Loose" Super Disco Edits 45'
Scotters replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Arrived today (thanks for alerting us all to it on here and for such fast service!) and got to say aside from being brilliant 70s soul to my ears, the quality of the recording and actual record + label is up there with the best new 45s I've seen in recent years...not dished, no rough edges, no loose bits of cutting inside the sleeve to potentially scratch the record when first removed to play, etc. Great. I've had the Foundations 45 on Psycho and actually regret selling it recently after seeing this cool label spinning round again just now! Anything else planned for release like this please? Cheers, Steve -
Genuine thanks for taking the time to post this up each week Steve and I really hope you keep it rolling. Perfect balance of brilliant new and old soul for us to soak up and savour...."Savoury soul" (but without any cheese!)

For what it's worth, I have high respect for a lot of Northern / Rare Soul and general soul DJ's that I've seen and danced to their sets up and down the country, especially those who make an effort to make the sound as best they can, but got to say I have equal respect to the thousands of jobbing DJ's that do their best to get things right in pubs and clubs and out the back of vans every other weekend. It's hard work but rewarding when you see people enjoying themselves and I'm loving being able to have a go at "DJing" across a wide range of nights....for now anyway Cheers, Steve
