Scotters replied to Scotters's topic in Event Playlists - Reviews
Yes the whole 4 track EP is brilliant I think and a steal at under a fiver mp3. Cheers for looking over our plays -
Thanks so much and well done Steve for the last 12 months of posting your recordings and plays up on here..that's a serious amount of new and old soul to discover, hunt down and dig out etc...not a single track repeat either! Hard work but good work and something I certainly look forward to each week, Cheers.

paid for DJing?...whatever next

You could do worse than a used Pioneer DJM 250 if you can stretch to just over £100. No USB output but no doubt a separate little gizmo you can add to the analogue output to convert back to digital. Eg I record from one of these mixers direct to a Pioneer CD recorder, which can be picked up quite cheap used and great quality CD recordings you can then upload into iTunes or whatever.

Thanks for taking the time to list those Mick. Last year just brilliant for soul releases (new and old) so if this year is half as good I'll be very happy! Please keep up the great radio show and recordings, playlists etc. Cheers, Steve.

Many thanks to Brian and to guests Pete Mattock, Kev Such, Ciro, Pete Hulatt and Nancy Yahiro for a great first session of 2015! Very entertaining and some amazing soul played by everyone as always Here's what I chose to warm the room up this time anyway: The Valdons - Just how much can one man stand (Secret Stash) Gene Washington & The Ironsides - Got to get through to you (Colemine) The Up Tights - How long must I wait for you (Soul7) Mixed Feelings - Sha-La-La (United) Chuck Stephens - Paying for your love (Leo Mini) The Jaedes - Big Surprise (Athena LP) Dee Dee Warwick - You tore my wall down (Complete ATCO recordings CD) Shirma Rouse - L-O-V-E (from her great MP3 album of 2014 "Shout it out loud") Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - We get along (Daptone LP) Beverley Shaffer - Meet me halfway (Secret Stash LP "The One-derful! Collection") Charlene & The Soul Serenaders - Love changes (Volt) Cheers and Happy New Year! Steve.
-
Agree that would most likely lead to more plays, but crazy when it sounds so good on the CD hey!
-
Love going to venues where CD's / MP3s can also feature and make the most of some amazing previously unreleased dancers from last year including the likes of say:- - Dee Dee Warwick "You tore my wall down" (The complete Atco recordings double CD) - Julis Wright "I pray that things will change" (Kent CD "Brent...superb 60s Soul Sounds") - Chuck Jackson "Where did you go" (Kent CD "Satisfaction Guaranteed Motown Guys 1061-69") - The Natural Resources "If there where no you" / Toussaint McCall "I'll laugh till I cry" (Kent CD "Dore L.A. Soul sides" then also on Kent Select 45) - Dynamic Sounds Orchestra "Take me back" MP3 from their unreleased album (thanks again S.P.!) Even better if more brand new releases like Soulutions can get an airing as already rightly mentioned...eg tracks like "L-O-V-E" from Shirma Rouse MP3 album released late last year just superb I think. The remixed Preston Shannon 45 "The way I Love you" that Soul Junction released last year just brilliant too and loads of others. Okay maybe not for a busy main room but certainly smaller rooms. Here's to another great year of soul anyway . Steve
-
Can't leave this thread hanging with unlucky "13" posts today so Happy New Year all and if it's anything like last year for soul (events / releases new and old / meeting more people / swapping more CDs / hearing so many things for the first time etc etc) then I'll be very happy Cheers, Steve

New Year Box Set Sales! Bargains Galore
Scotters replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
I had the same but seems Paypal picks up price before VAT as the actual amount on the Paypal email confirmation which follows is the higher (correct) amount. Thanks for starting this thread Ian...the Philly 40th box set is a genuine bargain and a great end to the year! Happy New Year all, Steve -
Received the new Valdons 45 through the door today "Just how much can one man stand" and absolutely stunning soul I think. Brilliant work guys and please keep doing what you're doing! Four Tops "ask The Lonely" Accapella
Scotters replied to Derek Pearson's topic in All About the SOUL
...and the fact that you get "Where did you go?" on the other side of the original 45 has got to make this one of the most soulful, most affordable, most almost everything releases ever. A mate gave me a "spare" copy a few years ago and I'll treasure it as long as I'm here. -
Satisfaction Guaranteed - Motown Guys 1961-69 - Kent
Scotters commented on Mike's article in News Archives
How good is this Chuck Jackson version of "where did you go"?! Certainly stopped the conversation in my car on Saturday night and thanks again Nicola for bringing it along...superb cd right through and yet another amazing release from Ace. -
Not that I needed a reminder, but this thread has also once again proved just how talented Curtis Mayfield was. Not only for the songs he wrote and sang himself or with others, but for songs like this which other artists sang. A great CD from 1995 "Curtis Mayfield's Chicago Soul" has so many on it, including the Major Lance recording of this song.
-
Major Lance too I've just discovered! Brilliant.
