  1. Ady's full notes on the Mainstream Modern Soul CD spot on that the two Linda Perry tracks should seal the deal for most of us. Brilliant content as always and thanks for continuing to release these amazing compilations!
  2. Just a quick bump on this one again if anyone has one lurking in a box or on a shelf, unloved and unplayed. Thanks.
  3. Great write up as always! Have loved dancing to this record over recent years when lucky enough to hear it out amongst other similar things. The break and vocals, pauses etc has just got it for me. Impossible to find an original, let alone one in decent nick, so this official SJ release is sounding brilliant at home for me this last week or two and good for Randolph to see that people still appreciate what he and the group did all those years ago. Nice one. Steve
  4. Thanks. Interesting then as that label looks completely different to the one that sold on ebay last year on "Music World" label?
  5. No idea but looks like someone was prepared to pay just over $3000 for one on eBay last year! Wouldn't mind hearing it, looks like some prison project or something given the full name "Charles Smith And S.C. Department Of Correction Blazons"? 6. ...Also be interested to hear the Leon Bridges 10"EP release out today, with tracks not included on his superb LP from last year.
  7. As usual looks like the US and elsewhere get the best new soul first on RSD..Colemine Records have pressed up 500 of the new 45 from Gene Washington & The Ironsides - Next to you / I still love them all. Appreciate this might not "do it" for many on here but it certainly got my attention when I listened to both sides last week.
  8. ..not the Numero reissue but original please. Thanks,Steve.
  9. Thanks for this Dave. I remember reading that article 3 or 4 years ago, interesting to read again today. Just received a reply from Dorianne to an email I sent this morning and sounds like they're building up a positive file of support. Would be great if Norman can enjoy the rest of his days as a free man and maybe write & release new material. A decent condition copy of his LP still eludes me but lucky to have "Try me" on 45 with the different mix from the lp track, what a record that is, memories of Soul Sam's 70th...
  10. Lovely indeed. I look forward to the album. Thanks for sharing.
  11. SOLD THANKS..VG++ copy of this great dancer from 1980 on Tempus promo for £375 incl Special Delivery. PayPal (f&f), bank transfer or Pingit. Clip below is NOT actual record for sale. Cheers, Steve.
  12. Yes mine was the same...looked near mint but sounded otherwise just as you describe. I think all/most of the US issues are like it and some of the pink demos, remember reading somewhere. What a voice though! old thread on the subject here...
  13. Really enjoyed reading that thanks!..Was only listening again to this LP yesterday and wondering what the story was with the band and label etc, sadly like so many that never had the opportunity to do more. What a legacy though with this one truly great album.
  14. SOLD THANKS Great rare 70's dancer in near m- condition £300 incl Special Delivery in the uk (overseas post tbc). PayPal friends & family, bank transfer or Pingit. Clip below not actual record. Thanks, Steve.
  15. Received my copy through the post yesterday and have to agree from just a skim through so far focussing on some LP's that I own and many that I'd like to add eventually...a really great piece of work and absolute top quality content, paper and print quality + book binding (sorry I do like a good binding!) essential for anyone remotely interested in soul LP's and this will certainly be my regular read when time allows. Must've taken so many hours of hard graft, research and also time at the keyboard. Thank you John and already can't wait for "L-Z" if you can find the time and energy. Not a gripe by any means but would've loved to see more artwork included, though the dozen pages in the middle are lovely to look through and actually a hard back book just full of soul/funk LP artwork and no words would also be great if such a thing exists? Thanks again John and I hope you're duly rewarded for all your efforts on this. In fact I reckon I need two copies...one to use regularly and work through over the next ten years or more with post it notes and highlighter etc and one to keep in pristine condition on the book shelf. Cheers, Steve
  16. Great review thanks John and I agree yet another brilliant compilation of quality soul. Been listening to this in the car several times over since the cd arrived last week and as usual the notes, photos and depth of information just add to the experience. Soul and info per £ these regular releases really can't be matched and I look forward to whatever's next. Thanks, Steve
  17. Thanks Rob. I'm also in please. We going with a theme, like before...or just bit of everything in the melting pot and see what happens? I still have all the cd's from the last four or five swaps, listen to them regularly and randomly in the car now and then...so many great choices from different people it's brilliant. Cheers, Steve
  18. Thanks for posting. Looks good. Love everything on Daptone records, such a great soulful sound and quality in each of the recordings, really hope they keep it all rolling there. This is quite interesting from 4 or 5 years back, a look at the history of Daptone Records...
  19. Wow they're lovely tracks to my ears Rob, thanks for releasing them and for posting up on here. Looking forward to the further releases already! All the best, Steve.
  20. Great idea and if you need any more riders I'll be happy to hop on the bike & see what I can help raise! I've only had the pleasure of meeting Paul in recent years...such a friendly and happy person, not to mention amazing taste in soul..a good few of us truly blown away again by his choices in Spain last year. All the best, Steve.
  21. Strewth I just misread the title of your thread when it popped up and thought the worst! thankfully he's okay though and sorry I don't have one.
  22. Great choices as always Mick and dozens more from last year which I'm still hearing for the first time! Thanks again for taking the time to post up your podcasts and play lists each week and I'm so glad that Soul Source isn't just about rare soul...that there's space and interest in new releases too. If this year is anywhere near as good as 2015 for new and previously unreleased soul then there's much to look forward to hey! Just wish I could hear more new releases played out and about more often. All the best and Happy New Year.
  23. Can't currently remember first half of this year but certainly this last few months these two Ace/Kent releases have been good companions in the car.. Masterpieces of Modern Soul Vol 4 Lost Without you: The best of Kent ballads 2 For what it's worth I think it's been another fantastic year for all sorts of different compilations and general new releases...long may it continue.
