  1. Not seen less than £125 in recent times and as high as £150 like John says.
  2. Have seen for anything between $40 and £75 over the last year and think as high as £150. Old Guy and Butch cover up, Ritchie Adams if remember rightly. I bought Guys I think still covered and hammered it every chance I got, great record IMO.
  3. That was me again, bloody auto loggin again :-/
  4. No sleep since Friday night, brain not functioning properly but I'll have a guess at the Valentinos. If not giz a clue ;-)
  5. D'oh!!!! T*** ;-)))))
  6. Oops that was me, auto log in didn't appeat to work.
  7. I did ask asked Butch if he played Mello Souls at Stafford as we were having a disagreement during a conversation as you do, anyway he said he didn't spin it there, this was only a couple of months ago when I asked him???? Confused!!!
  8. Not heard of Butch having the acetate. However Dez Parker just came into possesion of one recently, apparently paid a few bob for it too. It's a Dick Charles acetate but the Mello Souls is a Virtue recording?
  9. Soul Sam plays the Celebrities also.
  10. Gotta agree, one of the best records ever without doubt. Didn't Kev Draper find the second copy and play it uncovered, pissed Richard S off totally who promptly dropped it from his playlist???
  11. The Mello Souls was sdiscussed elsewhere and here some info from David Flynn that came about from the discussion... The Mello Souls were from Wilmington, Delaware near Philly. The leader of the group was a guy called Silas Phifer, who had an earlier release as, 'Silas Phifer & the Mello Souls' on the James Chavis owned Candi/Chavis set up. Candi, Chavis & Mello are all from the same town and conversations Andy Rix had with various people associated with the Matadors and the Empires indicated that many of the members of these three groups were related and/or friends, and indeed moved from one group to another as required. The record was pressed at Virtue, and 'We can make it' was published by 'Mary Hill' Music, with the 'Mary' probably being Frank Virtue's wife. Members of the Phifer family still live in the area, but have no 45s, and Silas currently resides in a care home. James Chavis still lives in Wilmington on Vandever Street...the same name he used for his publishing company, but he has nothing left either.
  12. I know at the time a Don GArdner went for £8000 at the same time, sure Kenny told me he paid ten??????
  13. I can remember saying that someone went through some old archives back in the states and it stated that there was 12,000 copies of this pressed. Fact or another myth dunno but very interesting one to say how rare the record is. Can't remember what archives they were, pressing plant, IRS?????
  14. Shifty did play the Mellow Souls, sold it to Kenny B couple of years ago.
  15. I would sooner give the time to a bad soul record than a R&B record personally. The likes of (IMHO) Bruce Cloud, Nick Lawton and that god awful (IMO) James Duncan with that shite nursery rhyme ;-) are not what in go out to hear. Fully appreciate some do but I just cringe and switch off when they do get played. I also try to avoid certain venues where lots of early R&B will get played, my choice but like I say respect others taste and choice of what they want to hear. There's 100's of soul and northern soul records that IMO should be getting played before other genres are introduced to the scene.
  16. Yep pretty much agree with that John :-) The stuff that has crept in is very blues and rock influenced (rock and soul is one term I saw on a sales list, whatever next :-/ ). Dunno maybe they saw a way of making money by adding a dancable rhythm to the blues songs they were singing. Like we both said it isn't what Northern Soul evolved into, it left the mods to do their own thing, left the early R&B behind and went for uptempo (sometimes soulful ;-) ) dance music.
  17. True as it might be the Northern Scene evolved once it broke away from the Mod scene into it's own identity. Mainly uptempo dance music. Now records with a hard edge have always been spun (Cookie Jackson, Mickie Champion, Mac Saten etc) but over the last few years records with a different beat tempo and usually very early have worked their way onto the scene...I think these are the records we are talking about and either like or dislike.
  18. Should still be IMO, but I suppose it's the opinion of the buyer and seller that counts :-( F****** crazy for a record thats not that rare, not over a $1000 rare.
  19. I always thought this was a £150/£200 record. Still 5 days to go too...... https://offer.ebay.com/ws3/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...item=4007747747
  20. What on vinyl????? ask Butch, Kitch or Kenny Burrell, they have the only known copies ;-)
  21. Blues with rhythm, as the title suggests. No strings either????? What some consider R&B, i.e. Mickie Champion etc I consider straight down the middle uptempo Northern Soul. Don't consider it R&B in the slightest. Tough call really what is and what isn't, at least for us Brits, the Yanks just call it all R&B!!! ;-) We just love to pigeon hole stuff, especially dealers, and especially the indemand stuff as it helps sell other stock. The out and out R&B or Rock n Soul as some call it has no place in a Northern Room IMO ;-) Not what I want to hear anyway. Went in the R&B room at Prestatyn, about 6 of us, we lasted half a record before we all walked out, f*** knows what was being played but it was utter shit, in our opinions ;-)
  22. Mello Souls was 86 or 87 so qualifies. Sure someone said Magnetics first got a spin or two tail end of Wigan. Better known from the Stafford era though. Which Four Vandals ;-)
  23. Most of the rock and roll, sorry R&B is terrible and shouldn't IMO be played in northern rooms. That goes for country music too, Barbara Redd etc. Plenty of stuff from the mid wigan era too. Like someone says all down to personal taste. Shite played in all eras of the scene ;-)
  24. My guess is you already know or at least have heard things said ;-) BTW can't you put your name to your posts???? ;-)
  25. Well it does say in the last 20 years Dave :-) Wasn't Magnetics played at Wigan although better known for spins in the 80's??????
