  1. I'm sure Mark will echo theis but the 80's and Stafford in particular was were the breaking ground for many of todays so called "R&B" spins. Bud Harper (not R&B IMO ), Buddy Ace - True Love, Patience Valentine, Cookie Jackson, Big Daddy Rogers, Curly Moore, Arthur Freeman, Benny C Oliver, Blue Jays, Danny White (Atlas) and many more I could list but can't be bothered Even though I don't like them all, many of these I consider the acceptable side. The last few years however has seen the R&B sound get earlier and earlier and often verging on Rock and Roll, Leo Price, Bruce Cloud to name but two. It's this kind of record that does absoutely nothing for me whatsoever and feel should be left to the specialist R&B rooms and kept put of the NS rooms As for Barbara Dane, should be played at a line dance
  2. Is there a smiley sticking two fingers up
  3. No we just like to argue
  4. ok ok will take your word for it The acceptable side IMO, NS again. As you well know I used to play Cookie in the 80's and had the Patience Valentine in my collection at one point. Thing Big Daddy was one of the first to play Cookie? Got it on some old tapes of his somewhere
  5. I know and maybe so but Mickies version IMO is no longer R&B in the same sense as it's earlier release. Out and out NS IMO
  6. It's shit! Is that better Karen
  7. Never thought of this as R&B and won't consider it R&B. Not in the style of Don Gardner, Leo Price etc which is the style of R&B I hate and feels has no place in a Northern Soul venue. Mickie Champion (as above) never classed it as R&B, out and out Northern Soul IMO. As I said earlier, each to their own. If we all liked the same stuff would be pretty boring
  8. It's actually Wifred on the writer credits on "I'll Rescue You"
  9. Any other info on the above two?? Flip to Flash Mckinley is called "Millie".
  10. ORIGIN from a practice among smugglers of hiding bottles in their boots Oxford English Dictionary
  11. Geraldine Hunt from Chicago, well she moved there when she was two and ws big friends with the Chi-lites. Type her name in google, quite a few pages about her but yet to find any reference to her Bombay outing apart from Mr Rimmers discography
  12. No not being sharp mate. No apology needed either. Pretty certain it's Chicago, would stick my neck out and say it is Chicago.
  13. Heard Carl a couple of times recently and he's tended to stick to the more soulful stuff, some good stuff at that. Not my cup of tea either, well not the real low down R&B that did seem to get popular over the last few years, Don GArdner - Boogaloo, Leo Price etc. Each to their own at the end of the day.
  14. Hope so
  15. Gotta agree with £700 being too much for RM Christian. I would go with my first estimate of £500 as that is I'm sure the last price I saw one sold for. One did go for just under a $1000 on evil bay some months ago. John Wesley I'd certainly rate higher than £700 and if I had one I don't think I'd consider much less than a grand for it (all IMHO). Allan Sisters tricky one to price. I'd probably be tempted to auction with a reserve of what you think it's worth Big O.
  16. Sure the label is from Chicago. No reference in Chicago Soul though.
  17. If there is a rule I've not heard of it. Not mentioned the curry jokes....think they are rather amusing, certainly don't bother me in the slightest Do they bother you?
  18. Have seen Roosevelt Matthews for £500 plus...as high as £750. I'm sure Derek Pearson had one for sale a while back, try the sales section on here to see if you can find it. John Wesley Smityh dunno for sure, rare piece, £1000+ Allan Sisters..is that a legit test press (studio acetate) or a cut/emidisc?
  19. If we didn't although I'm sure we did, we have now You've asked on there and I think your questions have been answered.
  20. Geraldine Hunt, Fascinators, Flash McKinley....... We did this some time ago on RSF.
