  5. They are a large influence, they are behind some of the high prices too of the classics, particularly auction items. For some money is no object, in particular mint items. They do seem to go for the more soulful, deep stuff though although there is a thriving rare soul community
  6. The trouble is many still look at the scene for the UK perspective. It is worldwide now, not the scene although there are world wide elements that seek out not just the northern as we call it but the sweet, deep, lowrider etc. But the collecting side of it is massive. The high prices for the classics is probably UK driven by the Djs with a massive lack of imagination eager to impress. But speak to the dealers, they have never been so busy. Unlike the nighter scene, there are no signs of the collecting side dying off.
  7. Got my copy this week
  8. Again originally a CD comp in 2012 but when it was finally released on 45 it was one that has crossed over to the venues and stayed. It even saw a second release on Kent Town due to demand and rightly so.
  9. I know this was originally released on a comp some years ago but it recently saw release on a 45 for the first time. It has had some action on live feeds and mixes, be interesting to see if it transgresses to venues when this is all over?
  10. Fully agree bit out isn't just the punter, Dj and promoters seem afraid to program music and Djs that isn't what the kind of punter you mention expects. It isn't just the classic venues either, many who play a more progressive sound, not that there are any today will not play many of the new releases.
  11. Whether enough youngsters are attracted or not, it is quite clear there are not enough to sustain the scene in its present format of an all-night based club scene, very few travel now, all that aside there will still be a market for the records and always will be. There is a large market now of younger collectors, they simply don't travel to all-nighters. They will forge their own path, regional probably but it will still be there in some form.
  12. There has been some fantastic releases over the last few years, I've done several mixes highlighting many aimed at our scene BUT very few seem to crossover to the mainstream all-nighter venues. Is it a case of snobbery towards new releases and the need to swing one's dick proudly showing off yer new £5000 acquisition? is it because they are in the main limited presses and therefore depriving many of owning and hearing a release more often? Is it because promoters will not book Djs who program new releases? Many aren't good enough that is for sure or too far removed from what we grew up dancing too.
  13. You all seem to be confusing the collecting of records with going out. Prices are sky high for a small minority of records, those in demand with the DJs, the classics etc. But there is a massive market out there outside the world of Djs and dance floors and it will remain long after the last rare soul night, not that that is in sight. The same can be said for scooters. Scooters do seen to be popular with youngsters of today, they might not spend 1000s on rebuilds but there is a market away from the music scene. ....and what makes some think the Northern/Rare soul market is bigger than other markets such as country, doo-wop and pop?
  14. Some weekend listening for you...
  15. More terribly sad news R.I.P. Marc
  16. Do you know her maiden name
  17. Ronnie August? & Deneen ?
  18. Did we ever find out who exactly August and Deneen was/are?
  19. It mattered not who it was covered as, or any record for that matter, half the fun was trying to work out, find out who it actually was.
  20. Shipped today I think Rick, delays with delivery etc
  21. It was big in the mid 80s and then had a revival 10 years ago, give or take a year or two
  22. Excellent record. It's not rare and was always readily available. But it came into demand once more a couple of years or so again and its pretty much a keeper now. I sold one for a ton few years ago.
  23. Is it a free stream? or is it nearly £9? I'd want the video for that tbh. What channel, Vimeo?
  24. Down the canal again this morning...
  25. Volumes is 30 odd years and it definitely been hammered to death for the last 20, Hytones must be 15 years or so now? Still a good record though but wouldn't care if I never heard the Volumes again.
