Agree with all the comments above regarding the quality of Too Darn Soulful (except the cheesy one ) but I actually prefer his recordings with the Attractions (Why Shouldn't A Man Cry) and the Soundmasters

And The Ones That Ya Got To Sit Down Too
Chalky replied to sister dawn's topic in All About the SOUL
No, the track is "My Book" -
It's on the Ol Virginia Soul release, not sure which version so will have to dig out and listen although sure it mentions in the notes the longer mix. Sure it's on a Soul Supply/Goldmine release too
-
Got spins in nthe 80's especially Everybody Say Yeah. Seen as low as £80 and like Baz says £150.
-
There's a four track master from the original studio session still owned by one of the group. Presume there are the two cuts of Gotta Be A Reason, the original flip and the instrumental on the master?

And The Ones That Ya Got To Sit Down Too
Chalky replied to sister dawn's topic in All About the SOUL
Elvis Presley Probably the greatest singer of all time but not what I want to hear at a soul night especially when there are 100's of quality soul records that should be played first. Larry Trider, Bruce Cloud etc etc...... -
as far as I know it hasn't been booted. Seen recently for £80 as well as the £100 from JM

You can get them >>HERE<< Billy. Here's some info I got in an e-mail some time back. THE !!! BEAT' IS BACK Once THE !!! BEAT was only a legend. Fans and collectors heard that there was a television show in the mid-1960s that captured the absolute very best of the soul and R&B singers of the day. Some said it was made in Nashville and some said that it was made in Dallas. Musicians remembered working on the show and a few people remembered seeing it, but no one seemed to know what had happened to it. Did the tapes still exist? How many shows were there? Who exactly was on it? Now, nearly forty years later Bear Family answers all the questions. All the episodes still exist! It really was a fabulous show! It really was in color! It really did feature the absolute best of the soul and R&B acts of the day! And whereas once just fragments of the shows made their way onto bootlegs, now the entire series is available in first-generation quality. It has been a long time coming, but now THE !!! BEAT is back! Soul music is bigger than ever now, just as the original practitioners are dying off or performing way past their prime. Revivalists like Joss Stone often only emphasize how great the originals were in their day, so here is a reminder of what REAL soul music was like from the absolute original masters. There were 26 THE !!! BEAT shows, and many of the performances were live in the studio with a backup band led by the terrific Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown. Here are just a few of the original soul and R&B stars captured in their prime: Otis Redding; Little Milton, Esther Phillips, Joe Tex, Etta James, Lattimore Brown, Rosco Shelton, Carla Thomas, Freddie King, Barbara Lynn, Johnny Taylor, Maurice & The Radiants, Louis Jordan, Mighty Hannibal, Clarence 'Frogman' Henry, Robert Parker, Joe Simon, Mitty Collier, Jamo Thomas, Zz Hill, Lou Rawls, Bobby Hebb, Willie Mitchell, Don Bryant, Ovations, Bar-Kays, Percy Sledge, Garnett Mimms, and Sam & Dave. When you're talking about soul music, it truly comes no better than this! Fans in the UK can expect a treat in 2005 in the shape of a multi-part series on SOUL MUSIC, so SOUL is officially back. Go get every episode of the THE !!! BEAT. Exclusively from Bear Family....the new Soul City! The !!!! Beat, Vol.1 Shows 1 - 5 BVD 20126 TRACK LISTING SHOW #1 (recorded January 31, 1966) 1. Sidra's Theme is also better without the vocals Pete IMO. Ronnie and Robyns vocal is dreadful. Probably my fave instrumental of that era.

Can only find one real copy on e-bay in recent months. Realistically I would have though nearer the £400 mark personally, certainly more than £125. Desired record on southern/deep soul scene which is what the boot wil be aimed at.
-
In the event of a claim you would more than likely have to prove what you have lost and have a couple of independant valuations. Fine agreeing verbally but wait till the crunch comes, touch wood it never will. I know most insurance companies now want photographic proof and a written valuation from an independant source.
-
wasn't that long ago I was seeing this for a tenner and £15 in boxes.
-
Sure seen this on a Wigan playlist for Richard Searling. Anyone confirm. Certainly got plenty of exposure in the 80's. Hard one to find as others said. Not seen many for sale at all over recent years.
-
Even though the lyrics verge on naff the record gets more bad press cause of Wigans Ovation if you ask me. maybe Wigans Ovation should be burnt at the stake live on top of the pops along with every copy pressed
-
I'm fine Andy, hope your the same. Shall be seeing Mr. D tonight so will pass on your regards. See you soon
-
Mighty Joe Young in my database at £20. In Tim B guide at 25, hope thats some use. Doty Roy can't help right now I'm afraid.
-
can you send it my way too please Christian
-
Soul Survivor excellent mag it was too. I'm missing (I think) issues 2,3 and 4. Anyone help me out with copies?
