this looks very familiar, certainly last two lines but can't think what....and it's bugging me
  4. quick surf and found this.... The Admirations consisted of brothers Kenneth, Bruce and Ralp Childs and two unknown members remembered only as Myles and Smith. Lead singer Kenneth Childs sang in a mournful tenor similar to the Five Stairsteps' Clarence Burke Jr., but not nearly as exciting. Ex-Players Tommie Johnson and Herbert Butler managed the North Side Chicago natives, who debuted with "My Admiration for You" b/w "Heaven in Your Arms" on Paree Records in 1966. Neither Paree nor the Admirations reaped any benefits from the association, so the group sauntered to Peaches Records for one release, "You Left Me"; it received a modicum of airplay locally, better than previous releases, but not enough to keep Peaches afloat. Label-jumping once more, this time to George Leaner's One-der-ful Records, they enjoyed their most popular record, "Wait Until I Get to Know You," which surpassed "You Left Me." Released late in 1967, it got the fellows some better gigs around town, but never broke regionally. A final One-der-ful release issued in 1968, "Don't Leave Me" b/w "All for You," stiffed. It all ended when One-der-ful folded later in 1968; some of their artists signed with George Leaner's brother Ernie's Toddlin' Town Records, but the Admirations, needing more stability, drifted from the business without even as much as eyeballing a royalty check.
  5. I would say the Aspirations. The flip I Want To Be Free is as good if not better. The Smith is Walter Smith who left to form Walter & The Admerations (Man Oh Man on La Cindy).
  6. Still pretty rare even if it is on a major label.

  10. Sure I've seen the name in production/arranger credits too, can't think what right now. Flip side to the Bootleggers on Discovery credited to June Jackson.

  16. Many people mention how much Sheridans is missed. Last NYE was certainly a great night. All the Clubs at Sheridans, Lifeline, Soultown and Backbeat pushed the boundaries and didn't stick to the same old same.
  17. Definately a land mark venue
  18. Bretby...the original Bretby that is
  19. If going by music policy alone there can't be many land mark venues from the 90's and 2000's. There haven't been that many that have consistently pushed the boundaries .

  21. Latest News and Info on the Lifeline Weekender Full information and the latest new on this upcoming event. Not long now for the Lifeline Soul Club's first Real Deal Rare Soul Weekender to be held 3rd, 4th &5th of February 2006..... Being held at the "Ye Old Bell" Barmy Moor near Retford. Here's what the Hotel says of its self and having seen it we can only agree!! "The Ye Olde Bell, one of the most distinctive hotels in Nottinghamshire is set in several acres of beautiful grounds close to Sherwood Forest in the heart of Nottingham's enchanting countryside. It has all the charm and character you would expect from one of England's oldest coaching inns, with its oak panelled rooms, log fires and leaded windows. Guests are assured of all the modern day comforts required by the most discerning of guests. The surrounding area is rich in history. Nottingham and York are less than an hours drive away." The hotel is sold out but there is a travel lodge close by at Blyth Services from where we will be hoping to run a mini bus from there to the venue for those who cannot get a room at the venue (if there are enough stopping there). There are also B&B's in Blyth itself and the surrounding area. I'll post some further details as soon as possible. Weekend passes are still available for £35. The music policy for the weekend will be the same as the successful Lifeline all-nighters, upfront, rare, unissued, cheap, expensive, forgotten &thinking man's and woman's oldies.....anything as long as it isn't played week in week out DJ's confirmed include Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H, Soul Sam, Cliff Steele, Chalky, Kitch, Dean Anderson, Arthur Fenn, Tim Brown, Rob Thomas, Andy Whitmore & Christian Brodsjoe. Others who have gladly given there services free for the afternoon sessions include the London Mafia Marco, Teff and Tony Smith, Hammy (the Scottish one), Ali &John Nightingale, Glyn Thornhill, Brett Franklin, Jamie &Rich (Soulsville), Ged Parker, Mick Howard, James Trouble & others....quality assured I think you will agree!! To reserve your pass for the weekendor for further enquiries please e-mail Chalky @ chalky@soultown.eclipse.co.uk (or telephone 07743 863 523) or Andy Dyson @ Dysonsoul@aol.com (01302 744927) or Mick @ Trentsoul@aol.com This will also mark Lifeline's second anniversary
  22. It was probably great in the era you went for many others, just not me. Was too much into newies to go back to oldies week in week out, still am Was one of the reason I didn't do so many nighters mid 90's. Flyer from 80''s....
  23. Tony's...when, which era? Guy Hennigan era or after (90's)? It was never the same after Guy stopped doing it. It was in 87/88 one of the best upfront venues in the country with all the top "newies" dj's appearing there. With the later re-emergance of Northern Soul in the 90's the music went backwards so stopped going.
