  1. Yep, I've bought from her and very good, have own website as well.
  2. Guys original Soultown.... Danny Everard and Dave Thorley (Winding Wheel in Chesterfield) Detroit Academicals..Neil Smith & Cliff I think, Northhampton
  3. Sure posted this in past?
  4. tongue in cheek Dan Shane knows me better than that...I think
  5. you also said maybe the only one? Just what have younger uns being saying cause to me your just trouble causing, rumour mongering and causing ill will between soulies...IMHO I haven't seen any evidence of anyone threatening the chance of younger people geting into the scene, any where As for you and what the f*** you're doing on the scene I don't know cause you've had f*** all good to say about it lately
  6. forgive me for being a bit daft but how the f*** does a membership card punish someone, I never felt like I'd done something wrong when I had to send for one also half the trouble goes un noticed in a large venue and you only hear about it afterwards. Even if a bouncer steps in to stop trouble it's still happened and probably upset someone and spoiled their night.
  7. You said Older soul fans intimidating? why are they? again I think your talking out of your arse as there are plenty of Mods who go to soul venues. Most aren't the kind to be intimidated either. Most the time I read your posts they almost all pretty political with regards to the scene and seem to give the older soulies bad press IMO. You sem to forget without that older generation there would more than likely be no soul scene for you to enjoy and if most of themj weren't still on the scenme there wouldn't be a scene now.
  8. yourself and many others does a good job IMO promoting. No one actively IMO dissuades newcomers not to enter a venue. We were all young once upon a time, coming onto an underground scene which can be pretty nerve wracking for some I would imagine so it was and stil is god to see friendly faces, people who welcome you and encourage you to have agood night rather than want to stick a glass in your face  We also had to have a membership!! not just for the odd venue but for every venue practically Didn't drive us away did it or stop others coming onto the scene
  9. take it thats tongue in cheek...not gonn a bite anyway
  10. what I like to hear
  11. hope not. hope there's a good many years left in the scene yet and me
  12. I wish more would play stuff we've forgotten or not heard for years but even when someone does there are fewer people prepared to listen or accept them
  13. f*ck me, god help committee if you were on it if someone wishes to enter then someone should vouch for them? if someone bringing a non member then they should sign them in? if a casual then they should sign in? maybe take out a membership that night? if they like it they will return You ought to open you eyes a bit more if you think there is only the odd piss head causing grief! And as for Steve Cato being the only one actively trying to get new people onto the scene you do talk out of your arse at times. Does everyone else actively try to keep them away?
  14. It won't dilute the passion or interest for me Mark, nothing will.
  15. my point exactly Baz.
  16. I think you should be able to use any membership to a soul club at any soul club, bit like old working mens clubs memberships Whats happened to memberships anyway, can remember at one time particularly the 80's when you couldn't get into most venues without one? I can't remember the last time I used a membership card
  17. gotta agree mate Far to many venues, too little thought (no thought at times) as to the effect that one promotion will have on another. Too many promoters not getting their heads together locally!
  18. 1. I have to disagree slightly mate, not enough dj's coming through with "new" records. Who is there to fill the boots of Butch, Andy Dyson etc???? Most of the newer DJ's (whatever their age) have nothng new to offer, record wise, not for many anyway. 2. Why the need for three rooms? You are just splitting your crowd. Fair enough when it's say an R&B or modern, anything else is just diluting your main room. There is only a hardcore of say 300 or 400 that attend nighters on a regular basis and you only have to lok at the average age to realise that the scene is slowly dwindling with no where near enough young uns coming into it to sustain it long term. The young ones that are there, what happens when they say get married, have kids...career gets in the way, will they still be there? 3. as above, not enough young ones to sustain a nighter scene IMHO. Many not getting any younger and it only wants a reasonable quantity to leave at roughly the same time or over a short period of time and the nighter scene will struggle. All IMHO
