  1. don't think you get my drift tho' Baz. Most of the post '69 stuff at nighters is on the safe side and acceptable (by most) 60's soulies, I'm talking proper modern, can you name me a nighter that has a proper modern dj on for at least one hour like they used to? Most of the crossover is more northern than modern
  2. flyer......
  3. Not Northen venues. You used to get at least one modern DJ on a nighter line up at one time. There might be more venues and some venues with a seperate room, I'm talking about modern in with the northern.
  4. I'm not sayiong it's been neglected, just very few venues that cater for decent post '69 music. Usually get the stuff you mention above for modern soul, Drizabone, DJ Genesis, Angie Stone etc. Most venues as you know had decent modern soul dj's like those I mentioned previously, Dave Thorley being another with a good ear for modern stuff. Nowadays there's few venues that cater for proper across the board soul music, and by across the board I don't mean the northern type records like Drizaboine and Angie Stone. I also agree with you that since thew revival of the early 90's, 60's soul has suffered greatly with thew emphasis on classic oldies, even the quality stuff the returnees picked up on from plays in the 80's got hammered and are still being hammered neglecting many other great records. There's too many quality records that you no longer wish to hear cause DJ's know they are going to fill the floor and are therefore sscared opf being too adventurous.
  5. The V-Tone boot very easy to spot, it's got a preforation mark or dotted line round the inside edge of label. There's also another boot (Canadian I think) which is very rare, only 100 pressed, saw one sold for £200 not so long ago.
  6. Great reply Sean and agree wholeheartedly. I'd also go as far as to say that it wasn't until the revival of the 90's and some of the new younger breed of today that soul from other era's seem to get shunned at Northern venues. Throughout the 80's modern soul was championed and accepted at all-nighters by the likes of Adam, Robin, Andy Whitmore, Cliff Steele and others. I've never understood how someone can say something is crap or shouldn't be played when they probably haven't even listened to it
  7. well I've seen many a record last few years in a f*cked condition sell for mint or above it's value. too many don't seem to care these days and many sellers don't price records according to the condition, they just go by the books or last seen price. The Isonics could be had for £100 or less not so long ago (yes I know it was even cheaper years ago) then all of a sudden went daft...like already said up to £400
  8. I'm using Internet Explorer and the security settings in there were medium, but Norton Firewall the security settings had altered from medium to high for some reason. Once I moved the slider back all ok.

  12. I had problems logging in, found that between Friday and Saturday security/firewall settings had altered to high rather than medium. Once I altered them back again everything was fine. Dunno why they changed though, it coincided with the forum reverting to the skin it has now.
  13. here you go Grant
  14. Andy Dyson the first I heard play this out some years ago now, since then it's been one of my all time faves, simply one of the best beat ballads ever
  15. I think SS been on the go about 8 years? 4 years I've been on here although think that was second time I joined as lost posts/memberships in old re-shuffle? Was a member (and moderator) of the old Soul Talk e-mail list as well.
  16. Think collecting and the scene are two different entities. People will always collect and there are probably more who collect that don't attend than do attend venues. Even when this scene is all but gone the collectors will still be there. Just said more or less the same Brett, hadn't got as far as your post
  17. here you go...... James_Dockery___My_Faith_In_You_is_All_Gone___Soul_Craft.mp3
  18. Blue issue currently for sale by well klnown dealer for £75. Red rarely comes up for sale, last one I actually saw sold was about £700 I think, couple of years ago.
  19. there was one in January on e-bay for $238. One on Sparton couple months previous $178. Another middle of last year for £155. £300 a bit much IMHO
  20. it should be about £150.
  21. probably agree with you James. Think those who once had an interest in Norhtern and that interest has saince been rekindled due to t'internet have returned. I'd go as far as to say there is a dwindling of interest at many venues as well.
  22. Turned onto Northern Where else do these 400 students go? probably no where, hardly the future of the scene
  23. There is a good counterfiet. The matrix though is scratched in rather than stamped. I'll give you John Manships explanation..... Bootleg label, wishy washy in design, think he means the colour isn't has far more depth on the original. On the counterfeit there is no matrix stamp only A-23116 sp very lightly scratched in the dead wax. Original matrix reads a-23115-2 AT matrix stamp which is a C R within the curves of a large S.
  24. £200 on one well known dealers list for a demo.
  25. at last I've managed to sign in...... sent Richie this but here it is for others.....dunno if it's the one though, french ep release that is Jackie_Edwards___Feel_So_Bad.mp3
