  1. Ok, just how do you hear about all the various Soul Nights and All-nighters promoited every week. Do you still rely on Flyers? or is the Internet the main place to promote events?
  2. I've a picture of the Love Notes somewhere who evolved from the Ivories but pretty sure different group as this was late 50's
  3. But thos ewho advertise "across the board" or "crossover" often mean mecca classics and Drizabone/Angie Stone etc......been to many events that advertise under this description and yet nothing of the sort played, maybe they should be prosecuted under the trades description act
  4. What did Tim sell it for Steve? Think £400 is bit too much these days. If I was buying I wouldn't pay that.
  5. practically impossible, sure it was Reg Bartlette who was acknowledged as having the most comprehensive Motown collection and sure he said it was impossible task cause of the amount of releases with several mixes. Heard a rumour he sold his collection to Berry Gordy.
  6. Since been proved not to be Audrey hasn't it? Ady said he though it was Sharon McMahon who wrote it?
  7. Hi Barry, we could well have met bfore at TBI. I can't make tonight I'm afraid but will make one in the future all being well.
  8. As far as I know it only came out on SVR, new one on me if it did come out on t'other label. Came out twice on SVR, once with Perfections on flip as Joan already said and again with "Tidal Wave" on the flip, both same label number 1006. Perfections also released on 1005 with "I Love You, My Love" on the flip.....or summat like that SVR apparently stands for Sergei Vassilievitch Rachmaninoff
  9. Hi Sean, Didn't know owt about The Derby venue, sound like a cracking night music wise, shame about attendance Personally think there are too many events on now, many sub standard, many dj's substandard too with no imagination. It's certainly put me off Soul Nights and I'm now very choosey as to what soul nights I do go to. Went to Lowton last week, first time in few months, was regular before that and attendances still seem pretty good with a good record bar too. Don't really go local either these days although must check out the Attic at Mansfield sometime and Pilsley which is just up the road (whats the dates?)
  10. could be a legit re-issue? boot or re-issue whichever pretty sure it's the white label/demo, eiother way it has no number on the. Price wise for issue I'd say £400 tops, some have turned up I believe
  11. the financial backing came from Atlantic Records.
  12. Have you got scans of both sides? Bells Of St Marys had a 40 voice spiritual choir on backing vocals. Kells release was from 1960.
  13. The record was produced by a young Phil Spector. Label owned by Lester Sill, he managed Spector at the time. According to Kell BOSM later recorded by Bobby Soxx & Blue Jeans (Bobby Sheen) again produiced by Spector, Bobby's version rocked a little more and more pop orientated. The session Kell did there was approx 10 tracks laid down but only the one release as far as I know so plenty of unissued stuff laying about somewhere. I'm currently in the process of doing an article about Kell Osbourne.
  14. The re-issue has no label number....
  15. If we all liked the same it would be pretty boring Simon. Last thing I consider myself is blinkered with my tastes restricted purely to Northern Soul but that is truly awful
  16. Know a fair few DJ's and collectors with records (lots of them) that as far as anyone knows are one-offs.
  17. You're not wrong Joan, there or there abouts Have seen a tad cheaper in boxes.
  18. I used to spin the "Put The Hurt On You" side out me sen years ago. Anyone got a spare, cheap wouldn't mind a copy back.
  19. I personally think they should have left "Whole World In His Hands" in the can too Terrible
  20. maybe Grant but I think we had more choice with regards to nighters. Soul nights we just went to one were ever the nighter we went to was, or one close by. As for local soul nights probably one a week, now 6 a week anyway thats a different arguement back to the music......anyone mentioned Lee Bates...just seen one for sale on here Quality
  21. Not sure about that, back in the 80's was doing two all-nighters a weekend, two soul nights as well and often a dayer somewhere. Plenty of nighters on offer back then.
  22. I thought a chat forum was for expressing your opinions? and maybe having a good arguement now and then certainly not caused any offence here.
  23. dunno why you bothered might be obvious but from your reply it seem to me that for you to dj with originals you needed a delarks....god this is boring, Shane your right but after reading some of posts on here it's the best thing to help you nod off after sunday dinner
  24. plenty of quality records that are as cheap as pressings/boots, sometimes cheaper that are more than good enough to dj with. Dunno why when DJing is mentioned folk automatically have to assume you need records like the Delarks or that you have to spend 100's and 1000's of pounds I'd sooner hear someone who has used his or her imagination and puit a decent thoughful set together with cheap records than someone who just gets the cheque book out, right back to
