  1. large archer 1st issue, small archer 2nd issue
  2. listening to the three tracks I would say the second track I posted is Deep 002.....
  3. The next track is definately Deep 001 so if someone can add Deep 002 we'll know for sure.
  4. thats probably down to the quality of the mp3's. I'll see if I can find the tape.
  5. The Europeans where the average age is far younger than the UK, the music policy differs greatly as well with elements of all genres thrown into the mix. Thats the first thing the UK scene has to do, go across the board. I don't mean the across the board clubs already profess to be "across the board" playing safe with the likes of Angie Stone and Drizabone, records with a strong northern flavour. Dj's should be free to play from all eras, 60's, 70's, 80's, crossover...soul with a funkier flavour, anything that will attract the youngsters. There are very few venues than can claim to be really across the board and very few that do it properly. Those that do have a strong younger audience, keen on the music and eager to come back for more. Those that continue with the 60's only policy or oldies will only see their audience coming through the doors on zimmers and for the lazy b*stards who can't be arsed to walk those annoying electirc buggies that seem to be the rage these days
  6. we will soon have the northern soul version of the Derby & Joan clubs
  7. local is where the problems initially arise IMO Mike. Can be a problem for niters more generally or with a soul night finishing 3 or 4am as people may decide to stay nearer home regardless of the music policies. You only have to look at the SS calendar this weekend, some 40 events advertised......many within the same catchment area. Definate case of overkill!!!
  8. two tracks above just found on PC, quick listen appear to be different.....
  9. maybe? The crap being referred to from what I read are the oldies only venues playing the same old same week in week out. Would you if you were 18 want to get into a music scene where all they play week in week out are the same record at venues attended by people older than their parents in some cases, I know I wouldn't. The whole scene is getting very stale and needs a good kick up the arse and freshening up IMHO and that begins with the music policy. The scene can only last so long with venues with a policy of playing safe, with venues constantly clashing and all the in fighting that goes with it. A turning point must be reached sometime in the future or it will probably be too late.
  10. if Pete was still with us and on Soul Source I think his account would be suspended on a daily basis
  11. I said what JT said a couple of pages ago (was told that it was relevant) and still say now that the music policy of whatever night is irrelevant. It's crazy to put two venues on the same night when there are three and sometimes four other weekends in the month. Of course it's overkill, irrespective of the music policy and the tastes of the paying customer, the local soulies are forced to choose between one or the other rather than benefit from two local venues during the month.
  12. for a boot....tenner
  13. Yep it's a boot. Think off top of me head it was lifted from the Ohio Players lp.
  14. Along side the lesser known/unknown tracks Lifeline does play oldies but not the oldies you hear week in week out (well we try not to although I'm sure some that you do hear out on a regular basis do find their way to the turntables)....some are fed up with hearing the same records week in week out. It's like going to the local night club and hearing the top 40 for 20 or 30 years!!!! Some promoters err to much on the side of caution and are afraid to take risks. They would sooner have four dj's who play it safe rather than three who play the usual and one who plays something different to try and intoduce something new to punters.
  15. a good turnout then. Just out of interest in relation to the Friday night nighters theme, are the number rising, steady or fluctuating?
  16. posted a sound clip in media source for you Baz...not a great quality one. got a decent one on cd somewhere I'll dig it out when I get chance.
  17. how long is the Curtis? The one I have here is 4 min 48 seconds?
  18. Humberside doesn't exist anymore does it? It's the East Riding of Yorkshire
  19. Whats the numbers in attendance at Burnley ( I read the reports on here but most lookbacks from a very vocal few and don't always get the full picture), not been for a while and when I did it was quiet although music very good? The Wilton has had it's fair share of poorly attended nights. Fridays just aren't an option for some due to work and family commitments. I worked out Lifelines dates (months in advance) so that no clashes with any other nighter or soul night, especially those who are trying to do something different. I got in touch with promoters to see what their plans were and this was working well. There was no clashes when I planned and subsequently advertised our dates, even with Friday night nighters. I don't think there was much else could have done to be honest.
  20. Yes, don't think there is any "might be" about it.
  21. Its the ending where she holds the note for what seems an age thats missing I think on one. I have it on a tape from years ago where that bit is missing.
  22. I'm not talking 50 miles, I'm talking the same town A 50 miles radius is or can be a large catchment area and could be healthy competition with no worries about how many through the door.
  23. between £10 and £25
  24. How on earth can two venues in the same city/town be healthy? Healthy for who? Certainly not he local soulies who forced to choose between one or the other rather than benefit from two venues on differing weekends. It can't be healthy for the promoter when the paying customers are spread over two venues and it's not healthy for the scene cause of the politics and arguements it causes. Some one else said if they want to put another promotion on it would have to be midweek, so why bother in the first place if the calendar locally is already so busy? I can't see the point of promoting a night when there is already another night in the same town/city just a handful of miles apart regardless of the music policy of either. I certainly wouldn't promote a night just 'cause I wanted to hear something different on the same night as a venue with a music policy I'm sick of hearing, I'd look for another date, look elsewhere or just not bother.
