sorry mate, not read it all as it's been done several times before. You are right the comfort zone we are talking about two issues but both relevant IMHO.
again thats down to the promoters not to book them is it not if they continue to stay in the so called comfort zone. Some DJ's too scared to veer from the comfort zone and try something else.
I would make it compulsory that all DJ's are there early and if not then they make the effort to find whats gone before them.
I would also make the DJ's scribble down what they have played, tell the DJ's no repeats.
Sometimes though as Ady pointed out if your busy promoting as well as djing it's not always possible to keep up with things like this.
At the end of the day I think the promoter should play a greater part and think about what DJ's they are having on any particular night. Most of us who are out and about all the time know who plays what and the best way is to simply avoid DJ's with similiar sets, not always easy when the scene is full of DJ's.
yes I would say, they were abouut for years after the 60's albeit with various changes to the line up. Fortune Teller written by John Taylor who shares credit on Boy From New York City, Think Of Me, Johnny My Boy and others.
Someone once said to me that Levine had the records and Curtis the taste.
I would have thought both would be in there along side Richard Searling. Not looked at the list yet is Keb in there?
It back and as you say online Jock

I don't think Northern Soul has been on Blues and Soul's radar for the last 20 years let alone Butch. I stopped buying it years ago, read the odd page or so that featured northern in the newsagent if I was passing.
The vocal versions are The Magicians - (Just A Little) Faith And Understanding and The Tandels (or is it the Waves?) Is It Love Baby.
There's a bootleg version done in 70's Del Satins Baby Your The Fire.
whatever any of us think about Black Wings it is great northern (I'm not fond of the record too much myself) and it does fill the floor every time it's played
I rate it about £150ish but know some have paid more. Think the one on JM went for little over £200 but not totally sure. Was discussed little while back so you might be able to find it in a search.
There's 8 in the group, four vocalists, two guitarists, a drummer and a saxophonist and yes they are white. I've a photo from one the Washington papers and there's more info in one of the Ol' Virginia Soul Cd booklets, I'll dig 'em out later.
One to listen out for, King Cobras - I Thank You Baby - Sen Yown. Andy Dyson been spinning this on and off for a while, Pounding Northern. Ask Spot, he'll tell you how good it is!!
