  1. Cheers mate, all sorted now. Usually rip mine to around 224/256 kbps. I doubt the human ear would be missing much at 128kbps, anything less and the loss would probably become noticeable.
  2. I would also add that the majority of punters who go to venues prefer not to do an all-nighter these days due to various commitments, work, family, too old to stop up all night whatever. If asked most would prefer a soul night with a 3 or 4am finish at the latest. You only have to see how many disappear at allnighters now at around 4am or so. The hardcore nighter scene is probably 3 or 400 strong at most, spread over the whole country.
  3. the all-nighter scene these days is too small to sustain a large venue week in week out. Add to this family and work commitments, the rising cost of petrol, food etc, this will have an effect on what people do with their money and where they go. There are too many wanna be dj's and promoters who dj at their own venues and there mates venues only who as you say aren't good enough for the nighter scene (too many nighter dj's not good enough either) who will have no where to dj. I can't see them focusing on the wider picture some how.
  4. I've said for a long time less dj's longer sets, more isn't better, just makes for a disjointed night with too many genres and sets not flowing. I also agree with you about wanna be dj's and promoters but the rest of your post makes little sense in relation to todays scene, not in the UK anyway.
  5. cheers mate
  6. good record and class DJ dunno what the track is though
  7. anyone got the following 3 files they can send as hi quality mp3 to chalky.soul@googlemail.com many thanks What Color Is Love - 03 - You Goin' Miss Your Candyman What Color Is Love - 05 - Ho Tsing Mee (A Song Of The Sun) What Color Is Love - 06 - I'd Rather Be With You
  8. Could be better if some of the poorer venues fell by the way side. Numbers healthy but these often spread over far too many venues. The music could be better too with far too many venues stuck in backwards thinking oldies rut. There are venues who like to progress but some often at the expense of dancers, instread preferring lounge music, plodderrs and crossover no one can dance too. Venues should embrace all eras IMHO, but they should favour the dancers and not the collectors.
  9. Trying to think of the R&B but for 60's to new Jesse James.
  10. sent you all three Mark.
  11. Bank first issue before MGM.
  12. I respect anyone's opinion, regardless of age, whether I or anyone else agree's with an opinion is a different matter. You made two statements which I don't agree with, the first one, best NS record ever I find particualrly difficult to agree with to be honest, almost laughable. But each to their own!! And just to reiterate what I said earlier I do like the record, both sides. But whether it last the test of time like countless other NS records time will tell.
  13. gotta agree, shall be getting one myself!
  14. With all due respect JT you haven't been round all that long in the grand scheme of things. There's been plenty of records that have packed the floors, some have stood the test of time others have fallen by the way side. The Parliaments is one record from the last couple of years that did and still does get the reaction you talk about and that is a true northern soul record, a rare 60's soul record, not a modern day recording. It's not as good a northern record either as the Mello Souls which also caused quite a stir when first played and still rams the floor. And KGF will never be in the same class as records like Tommy & Derbys, Tommy Tate being one of the finest soul singers ever. Lots of "new" records come along, played to death but are quickly forgotten as they don't have the longevity or lasting appeal of true 60's recordings, time will tell with regards to KGF. My bet it is will hardly be heard in a couple of years.
  15. Decca has risen in price, probably doubled in price since I first started playing it. last one I saw on e-bay was I think over $120. Seems to be plenty of demand for this now and for what is considered a £30 it's not that easy as some other £30 records to come across. See his other on Decca far more often.
  16. mines a US demo and also has a date stamped on it October 16 1967. Maybe Oliver Norman (or is it Norman Oliver as the credits state) was a british singer with a US release? Anyone know owt about him?
  17. I would have thought half the £307 it sold for. Was a £75 disc for some time but I've seen them sold for up to twice that in more recent times.
  18. why big money? are they not going to release it? or are they just gonna release a limited amount?
  19. I agree with you JT it is an excellent record and from hearing the clip it will be a big record on the scene, but IMHO there are far better Northern Soul records, Fidels - Try A Litle HArder, Invitations - Whats Wrong With Me Baby, Fury's - I'm Satisfied ...., Silky Hargreaves, Mello Souls, Diane Lewis, Jerry Williams cover up, Johnny Praye, Timmie Williams, Junior McCants and countless others, be them oldies or newer discoveries. Don't get me wrong it is an excelent record and I am not knocking it, far from it but to make the statement you made is a very brave one considering the countless great records discovered over the last 40 years or so PS. I'll have a copy at Cleethorpes
  20. should have the stamp under the label too....
  21. sure someone once said this was done at same session as Girl Across The Street. Anyone know the dates when both recorded? What do the liner notes of the cd say?
  22. I agree you probably won't get Shuflers for less than £150, not on a list, but that don't mean thats what it's worth. Wasn't that long ago it was a solid £80 record and then all of a sudden it's twice that and more. As far as I can see the value asked for Donald J was for an issue and they go through e-bay for half the price you quote for the demo and £50/£60 on lists.
  23. $146 bout 12 months ago on t'e-bay!
  24. tis an excellent record JT but one of the best NS rcords ever...behave!!
