  1. I did read she is a sister in law or something like that, I only read it a day or two ago but can’t find where now There is a recording of Notts Palais on the tube with Sam playing it, 1978 if memory serves. It could have only been a brief spin as it remained relatively unknown. Still a pretty rare record and probably suffered because of that.
  2. It’s Barry Despenza’s label or he is heavily involved, his music publishing etc

  9. A late September catch up of some discs that have dropped on the mat the last few weeks and a preview of some that have yet to drop. House Brothers, I’ve been waiting all year for it and finally bagged the Disco Mix from AL Kent. Alan Kitcheners best 70s release yet, would have been a classic back in the day and still should become one its that good. Not much Northern but what we have is quality especially the Tomangoes. Three tracks from the album of the year from Kim Tibbs and The Science Of Completion Volume 1, every home should have one. Some Modern, some Dance, bit of Disco, some Northern, lots of S.O.U.L. Three Labels featured Izipho, Cordial, Six Nine Records, Million Dollar Disco, Creative Soul, Soul Direction and Soul Junction, Hit & Run, Epsilon, North Broad Street, Super Disco Edits, Expansion, Hayley &B MD records, Atlas, Soul 4 Real and a solitary download! Kim Tibbs - Walk To The Light (Radio Edit) - Izipho Soul T.S.O.C.V.1 Dayton Grey -= Love IS On The Line - Cordial Golden Bridge - I Can Prove It (Special UK Mix) (Featuring Leon Beal) Six Nine Records (Forthcoming) The House Brothers - Shake - Million Dollar Disco Al Kent Disco Mix Thomas Cain - Try My Love - Soul Direction Ruby Winters - I Can’t Help But Love You - Creative Soul Lovemasters - If You See Kate - North Broad Street Records Black Smoke Band - I’ll Keep Searching - Epsilon Records The New Sound - Don’t Take Your Love From Me - Hit & Run James Lately - What Your Doing - MD Records Tomangoes - Loves Got A hold On Me - MD Records Barbara Mercer - My Dear Heart - Hayley Records George Jackson - Till I Find Some Way - Hit & Run Gabriels - Love & Hate In A Different Time - Parlophone/Atlas 7” Tunnie Smith - Dancing On Da Clouds - Super Disc Edits Thomas Cain - Hold Up - Soul Direction Irma Thomas – Turn Around And Love You - Soul 4 Real Dionne Warwick - Meant To Be - Soul 4 Real Lovemasters - Lets Stay Together - North Broad Street Records Lamont Johnson & Eugene - Let’s Go Dance Tonight - Soul Junction Grady Tate - Lady Love - Expansion Howard Johnson - You’re My Star - Six Nine Records (Forthcoming) Kim Tibbs - Love Song (Radio Edit) - Izipho Soul T.S.O.C.V.1 Golden Bridge - Wouldn't Be The Same (Special UK Extended) (Featuring Matt Antunes) - Six Nine Records (Forthcoming) Kim Tibbs - Stop Running - Izipho Soul T.S.O.C.V.1 Down To Earth feat. 10. Still original, probably from same master so still a first issue.
  11. 7” black vinyl with picture sleeve is the first press
  12. Delta number gives it as a 1966 press at Monarch between March and April.
  13. Yes https://www.discogs.com/release/8272314-Little-Anthony-The-Imperials-Better-Use-Your-Head
  14. Superb double sider, the flip just edging it for me.
The usual top night at the Ukrainian, a great little club that has a big reputation. Where arrived 7.30ish to hear Phil Dunn's last half hour which was the usual excellence and was getting the people up already with a decent number of people in so early in the night. Robbo up next and you get the usual Robbo magic, mid tempo, beat ballads and dancers that kept the floor full. Tony Mac was up next and was playing a great varied set but unfortunately we didn't get to hear all his set as we went to Keele......to be honest I wish I'd stayed at the Ukrainian Nice to see Derek smartly dressed as well and his carer Big Mick...top man love the guy. Good to see Alison Nolan out and about as well, Rowena, Steve, Ken B and the usual faces. Can't make the next one unfortunately as my shifts fall wrong but holiday going in for November

  17. Happy birthday Sandra x
  18. It is something I've never thought about and something I cannot really choose between. As said both labels have their plusses and minuses. Motown was probably the soundtrack of most of our youth and probably the way into this wonderful scene.
  19. All that creativity would have found an outlet somewhere. If anything the creativity at Motown was maybe somewhat stifled at Motown as it settled into the formula it found the most success with. You only have to look at the amount of moonlighting for other studios and labels by those involved at Motown and by those who left Motown because they were often overlooked.
  20. I must have read wrong as I can’t find anything about any any biopic
  21. Not 100% but think one is in the works now or on the cards
  22. With Dean still on his jollies local lads Ady Crampton and Steve Johnson step into the breach to bring you this weeks Sound of Soul ™
  23. My shifts fall right this month so looking forward to getting back to this great little club.
