Hi Paul, Interesting, I've just had another listen to both, I've only got mp3's to compare mind but I have to agree with you they are both very similar, especially the way he/they sing "why" and "apart" early on in the track. They do sound subtly different though in places I'll have to compare with other tracks of theirs. Who first said that it was Billy Kennedy??? Where did the info originally come from??? Interesting again about the Thelma 114, another I'll have top listen to and compare.

Butch has been playing the Johnny Praye covered up since around 1992, Tommy Tate (Jerry Williams cover up) for over ten years as well. He never really pushed either enough IMHO. Wasn't until Andy Dyson got copies that they were given some serious turntable action that the records too off. Contessa was originally Pat Brady, it's a one known copuy record isn't it??? who is playing it now?

yes, last couple of years there was the Parliaments of course, Gerri Taylor - It's Beautiful cover up (great it is too) and even more recently the Four Perfections cover up. He's a few other cover ups I struggle to remember the names as well

Joe Jama was as you say Tim Brown, couple or so years later Mick H got a copy. Butch was later still long after it had been "broken".

Ion had it mid 80's, have a cd copy of a tape Ion did from '85 with it on. Rob later in the 80's and then sold to RS along with couple of other records. She is apparently the singer with the Sweets, the flip has same backing to the flip of the Sweets does it not.

He was 79. The cause was cancer, his daughter, Misti Bragg, told The Associated Press. The Prisonaires quintet became standard-bearers for Gov. Frank Clement's controversial prison-reform program, which emphasized rehabilitation. In the summer of 1953, under heavy guard, the singers traveled from their Nashville prison to Memphis to record at Mr. Phillips's fledgling Sun Records. The session yielded the mournful hit "Just Walkin' in the Rain," of which Mr. Bragg was the co-writer, and a feature story in a local newspaper. "It was the song that put Sun Records on the map, and very likely the item that captured the attention of Elvis Presley as he read about the studio, the label, and painstaking Sam Phillips," the biographer Peter Guralnick wrote in "Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley." That same summer, Presley made his first demonstration recordings at Sun. In 1961 he visited Mr. Bragg in prison. "The Prisonaires were pioneers in that they were among the first R & B vocal groups to record and have hit records released in the South," Michael Gray of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum said on Thursday. Mr. Bragg, born John Henry Bragg, was convicted of rape in 1943. He always denied the charges, and Governor Clement commuted his sentence in 1959.
