  2. you can't afford to alienate the dance floor these days either Ian, same rules apply, if you clear the floor for your set you still don't get invited back. Like you say it's all about getting the balance right. But to get the balance right you don't have to hammer £1000 record after £1000 record. Many dancers I doubt would care about the cost as long as it's danceable. Many times I've seen a poor reaction to an expensive record yet a 20 quidder has packed the floor. The need to hear expensive record after expensive record is usually created by the promoter, but if promoters started to get away from this, the big money dj syndrome as a I said earlier, in favour of DJ's who do play a set of imaginative dancers, with the right balance between cheap, expensive and known and lesser known records then the scene will be a lot healthier.
  3. He's not telling He hasn't been upfront about everything has he, that's the difference. He's been economical with the facts/figures whatever you want to say, not dishonest. He's not the first and won't be the last, and yes I'd probably be the same except I'd wait a bit longer than couple of weeks to list again.
  4. Why do people keep saying Brad is a totally honest bloke as though they have to keep defending him? No one has said he's dishonest have they? Besides if he was totally honest he would have said on his first auction that he had two copies, this doesn't mean he is being dishonest or setting out to cheat someone. He's a record dealer dealing in what can be an expensive market, he wants to make as much as he can so he isn't going to tell everything, doesn't mean to say he's dishonest and again no one saying otherwise.
  5. not true Ian, there's 100's if not 1000's of vinyl records that are affordable, by that I mean under 50 quid with many around the £25 mark. The trouble with this scene is rarity is the be all and end all for too many, if it's expensive it's good, if it's cheap its, well not good enough. Maybe if promoters got away from the big money DJ syndrome and booked those that use some imagination and played records that don't have to cost a fortune but do not suffer quality wise then the scene maybe a better place for it.
  6. no one is saying Brad is ripping anyone off or questioning his integrity as a record dealer. At the end of the day he's in it to make money. But if you didn't know Brad and you saw some seller list two copies of an expensive near mint record very, within weeks of each other wouldn't you be a bit suspicious, especially with some of the rumours going round
  7. exactly Gash, there was 5 or 6 bids I think over $6k, thats a lot of money if you have the copies!
  8. I hope it is another Clara Hardy situation, I'd love a copy

    anyone got a soundfile Ta
  10. No Pete I haven't that's why I said he's doing nothing no one else would do really. I would still be wary now of bidding top whack in case it does turn out to be another Clara Hardy, doubt it like but you never know.
  11. Yes but I would be wary of bidding so much now, regardless of the "last one" comment. To list a second so soon after the first and in pretty much the same condition, well I find it hard to believe there was just the two.
  12. I doubt any of the DJ's he mentioned have DJ'ed at any scooter rally Beeks has attended, have they been to any scooter rallies I still doubt he's heard them DJ.
  13. We know who it is and no one is suggesting he's isn't reliable and straight or a good seller. However if he was 100% honest he would have put on his first listing how many he had or that he had more than one. Suppose he's doing nothing no one else would do but a bit surprised it's up so soon after first one.
  14. I neither wish to get into any arguements but he should engage his brain before he gives us the benifit of his wisdom when it comes to northern soul or the rare soul scene. To come out with the comment he did about hardly pushing the boat out is just ridiculous. I doubt Beeks has heard any of the four mentioned DJ, maybe Mick? has Beeks been to an all-nighter other than Rugby? All four are up there with the best, especially when it comes to pushing the boat out, Andy Dyson especially.
  15. 'ere 'ere. Jock is not a bitter nasty piece of work, far from it, he's actually one of the good guys and as Brett says great company!
  16. when did you last hear those four DJ? Have you heard them DJ? Come to Lifeline and I think you'll find they aren't playing the same things. I doubt apart from what you might read on hear you have little clue about any of them, what they collect, what they play and in the case of one what they discover/find for others.
  17. I taped 100 club once, october '87 I think. I'll dig them out. I think it was Ian Clarke playing stuff like Bobby Rich - Girl Somewhere one one tape.
  18. can I have a listen please Mr. Flynn
  19. yep same guy, topic started last night H, titled Oh No I think.

    Oh No

last copy so don't ask I wonder how many he did have if that's the case?
  21. There's no excuse or reason to book a dj who plays boots and re-issues. There are enough djs out there in every area practically, established or wannabe, with the real deal that would take the same wage as one who plays boots. I can understand your reasoning Briles but why not use the other 13 DJ's to help you out? Surely there are some up and coming DJ's who would gladly help you out with earlier sets who don't play boots?
  22. quick google found this with reference to a "Tiny" Tim Harris and photo... https://www.citypaper.com/news/story.asp?id=9603 There's a Tiny Tim (Mr. T) Harris on Rujac as well.
  23. Hard to say a price as doesn't come up for sale too often. First released (I believe) on Menzola and only ever seen Mick H's copy on that label, books at £600 in JM guide, no listing for Timco release in the guide. The label on the Menzola release is red btw.
  24. unreleased stuff should be played if that means getting a carver done to get it heard get one done, maybe northern venues should be looking into cd players with the amount of unreleased material that is on cd right now. Whats the point in spending £20 on a carver just to get round this OVO policy when you might just as well play it from the cd Going back to Gloria Shannon its no longer unreleased is it and the real side disc is the original release regardless when it was recorded. Same goes for Kent and Grapevine 45's of unreleased material, get them played. I've played the unreleased Al Williams on Grapevine out as have others and the same goes for some Kent 45's.
  25. I've no wish to get involved in to this argument again but what is a genuine local soul night? Some might say that it is every event staged any given weekend excluding all-nighters. Most all-nighters now start 8 or 9pm and most who travel tend to head for the all-nighter now and bypass the soul night. Soul nights primarily target the local soulies in the area. Granted some areas have large catchment areas and can generate large crowds for some events but it doesn't make them any less local than a soul night that generates just 50 or 60 (or less) paying customers because their area is a more remote with a smaller catchment area
