  3. There's a few of the top Dj's with a copy.
  4. I agree with you regarding lighting for sales and as for the perfect nighter, like I said we haven't had one yet and if yours was perfect it would still be going. There is always something that can be improved, dj's, the venue, the mind set of the dancers etc etc. If we had the perfect nighter no one would go anywhere else would they
  5. double post
  6. All I see you do since Burnley closed Phil is knock the current scene. There is plenty on offer, not everyone are Mickey Mouse promoters and most all-nighter promoters I know do their utmost to put on the best night they can. All promoters I know have full time jobs so they can hardly be professional promoters. Most do their best with what they have at their disposal. I do agree you should have a decent sound system, lights I'm not so sure about, no one wants lights at a nighter, new stylus every time a must too. I don't think we've ever had a perfect venue nor likely to get one either, do you think your night was perfect? Most venue owners would rather the northern crowd wasn't there, they can make just as much from a "normal" night and be in bed earlier too, less overheads etc etc (dunno if this applies to the owners of the 100 Club). I do agree their are too many local soul nights, that is where the problem lies, people don't have to go far for their soul fix but that is not too say they are all mickey mouse promoters nor have nothing to offer. Promoters in certain catchment areas should get their heads together, or maybe banged together. There's nothing wrong with the Dj line up at the 100 Club, I wouldn't want to travel to hear mod sounds or funk either, some of the funky stuff being played is second rate and puts more off than it pleases from what has been said to me.
  7. Soul Majestics is a cheapie came out on Al-Tog as well, I used to play the Missing You side out now and then years and years ago.
  8. I think Ian knows you were referring to the original. Didn't think Keb had one any more unless he has recently bought one again?
  9. I agree with you Ken and I've argued many a time that any Dj has to offer something that isn't already on offer from the current crop of DJ's.
  10. cheers mate, know know where it is, or was should I say
  11. Thought it was worth a bit more than that, £50/£60???
  12. I've got the Willie Parker with the other flip thats worthy of a mention , Salute To lovers. Ringleaders one of my fave records.
  13. Fantastic track, one of the last tracks played on the ipod tonight before I switched off.
  14. A mate of mine got an unissued acetate of hers, fabulous it is too. Don't Try To Explain I think it's called. Al Coney bought some old OneDerful reels years ago. Think they just need transferring to summat more playable
  15. It's the first I've heard of it Kev and lived there most of my life.
  16. Where was the Purple Haze? before my time, still a nipper, besides would be a couple of years or so before I move to Chesterfield.
  17. I'm not very liberal when it comes to some tw*t pinching me beer
  18. Wasn't they originally going to do a follow up about the 80's etc, Stafford era and beyond? Certainly deserves a book of its own.
  19. I'd have shoved the drink and the glass down his throat....
  20. yes I could, quite happily
  21. All-nighters need new blood and you are not going to get new blood on to the scene if you keep the non soulies out? A word with the bouncers could probably solve the problem of beer on the dancefloor, if they don't do their job get another crew in?
  22. gonna download now and get it on the ipod so can listen at work. Nice one Bob, keep 'em coming.
  23. maybe some of those who go once a year for the anniversary, get a single and then ebay it could show some more support? I haven't been to an anniversary unless I have been a regular at the 100 Club. The last anniversary I did some of those there hadn't been to the 100 club in over 10 years, it was packed to the rafters, how it used to be every week back in the 80's. I don't think gimmick type nights are the answer either. What happens at the next normal night? The 100 club has a very good format with some of the UK's top DJ's but to be totally honest for the northerners there is plenty on their doorsteps and as already mentioned the inclination to travel is dwindling in an ageing Northern Soul population and on top of that you have the costs, £100 in petrol before you do anything else is a lot of money, especially in today's climate. I don't know what the answer is, maybe as said go every other month. Lifeline has this policy and it works for us, keeps things that bit fresher and to be honest the crowds are not dwindling everywhere as someone has mentioned. Also you are working against other promoters, or they are working against you, Chelmsford is an hour up the road, why clash with the 100 club? There is plenty of room down there for two nighters and no need to put them on the same night. Lastly you can't rely on those who say they will be there to lend there support, they won't, maybe one night, then you won't see them again.
  24. Guilty as anyone for the last couple of years or so in not attending. It is one of the iconic venues of the Northern Soul scene and have been many times in the past. But as many says the actual cost of getting there is going up and up, time (7 hour plus round trip in the car)and families is another factor. No longer in as situation where personally I can please myself, I have a family to think about and I also have a demanding job (same will apply to many of us now) where I am/can be away from home much of the week. Another factor is there are simply too many venues, people can get much of what they want on their doorstep and with the advent of the internet not many records stay exclusive for very long so doing away for much of the need to travel to hear the new stuff. I do hope it survives and hopefully I will be back down the smoke sometime in the future (sooner rather than later).
  25. Soul Survivor - Sir Lattimore Brown Back From The Dead! If anyone is entitled to a pain in the heart it is Sir Lattimore. Born to beginnings we cannot comprehend in 1931 and growing up with practically nothing. But from these humble beginnings... Tap to view this Soul Source News/Article in full
