Have we ever kept the scene to ourselves? I don't think we have, it's been commercialised for years by various parties and it's always been there for those that wanted it or searched for something different. According to many we were going to get a big influx of youngsters who having heard Sharon Jones, Amy Whingehouse, Duffy etc wanted to hear the real thing. Well it never happened and it is highly unlikely to either so I don't understand why some constantly feel the need to think we need to water down the music so that we might appeal to youngsters who like I said have no real interest in vinyl, many have probably never seen a record player. I don't think many understand that the kids do not want to hang around with people older than their parents. As always there will be the exception to the rule but they are an exception by and large, few and far between. If they like the music and feel the need to investigate more they will but they should take the scene for what it is, not some watered down version, diluted with retro sounding pop music.
Why have retro music when we already have the real thing??? There's plenty of great soul music out there in all its guises and genres.
